The Witcher 3 (1920 x 1080)

This chart shows you the minimum and maximum frame rates, as well as the average frame rate, that FRAPS recorded in The Witcher 3.

The GeForce GTX 1070 Founder’s Edition was really fast in this test, with an average frame rate of almost 100 fps. That’s about 3.5% faster than the GeForce GTX 980 Ti, 42% faster than the GeForce GTX 1060, and 52% faster than the Radeon RX 480 (8GB).

The Witcher 3 (2560 x 1440)

This chart shows you the minimum and maximum frame rates, as well as the average frame rate, that FRAPS recorded in The Witcher 3.

All the cards took a massive hit in frame rate with the resolution boost to 1440p. Only the GeForce GTX 1070 Founder’s Edition and the GeForce GTX 980 Ti delivered average frame rates above 60 fps.

The GeForce GTX 1070 was 2.7% faster than the GeForce GTX 980 Ti42% faster than the GeForce GTX 1060, and 51% faster than the Radeon RX 480 (8GB).

The Witcher 3 (3840 x 2160)

This chart shows you the minimum and maximum frame rates, as well as the average frame rate, that FRAPS recorded in The Witcher 3.

Higher resolutions in The Witcher 3 are really tough on graphics cards, virtually halving their frame rates. At the Ultra HD resolution, only the GeForce GTX 1070 Founder’s Edition and the GeForce GTX 980 Ti delivered playable frame rates.

The GeForce GTX 1070 was 2.3% faster than the GeForce GTX 980 Ti40% faster than the GeForce GTX 1060, and 51% faster than the Radeon RX 480 (8GB).

Fallout 4 (1920 x 1080)

This chart shows you the minimum and maximum frame rates, as well as the average frame rate, that FRAPS recorded in Fallout 4.

Fallout 4 is a relatively “easy” for most graphics cards at the resolution of 1920 x 1080. The GeForce GTX 1070 Founder’s Edition did well in this test, of course. But it was just 1.4% faster than the GeForce GTX 980 Ti, 8% faster than the GeForce GTX 1060, and 26% faster than the Radeon RX 480 (8GB).

Fallout 4 (2560 x 1440)

This chart shows you the minimum and maximum frame rates, as well as the average frame rate, that FRAPS recorded in Fallout 4.

When we took the resolution to the next level though, the extra performance started to count. The frame rate of the GeForce GTX 1070 Founder’s Edition only dropped by 9%, even with the much higher resolution.

The GeForce GTX 1070 was now 5% faster than the GeForce GTX 980 Ti34% faster than the GeForce GTX 1060, and 53% faster than the Radeon RX 480 (8GB).

Fallout 4 (3840 x 2160)

This chart shows you the minimum and maximum frame rates, as well as the average frame rate, that FRAPS recorded in Fallout 4.

Boosting the resolution all the way to 4K really taxed the cards. Even the GeForce GTX 1070 Founder’s Edition could not deliver an average frame rate of 60 fps.

The GeForce GTX 1070 was now 7.4% faster than the GeForce GTX 980 Ti42% faster than the GeForce GTX 1060, and 60% faster than the Radeon RX 480 (8GB).
