Ashes of the Singularity (1920 x 1080)

We tested Ashes of the Singularity in the DirectX 12 mode, which supports the new Asynchronous Compute feature. We started with the full HD resolution.

The GeForce GTX 1070 Founder’s Edition proved to be significantly faster than the GeForce GTX 980 Ti, beating it by 11-16%. Astoundingly, it was more than twice as fast as the Radeon R9 380 graphics card.

We then took Ashes of the Singularity up a notch to the resolution of 2560 x 1440. Let’s see how the cards fare…

The performance advantage the GeForce GTX 1070 Founder’s Edition had over the the GeForce GTX 980 Ti dropped slightly to a range of 6% to 13%. But it maintained its lead over the other cards.

Finally, let’s see how the cards perform with Ashes of the Singularity running at the Ultra HD resolution of 3840 x 2160.

Only the GeForce GTX 1070 Founder’s Edition and the GeForce GTX 980 Ti delivered playable frame rates. We can see the performance edge the extra memory from the Radeon RX 480 (8GB) gave over the GeForce GTX 1060.

Warhammer (1920 x 1080)

This chart shows you the minimum and maximum frame rates, as well as the average frame rate, recorded by Total War : Warhammer‘s internal DirectX 12 benchmark.

In this DirectX 12 benchmark, the GeForce GTX 1070 Founder’s Edition did well, delivering about 101 frames per second. This makes it slightly (4%) faster than the GeForce GTX 980 Ti, which is an impressive feat.

Warhammer (2560 x 1440)

This chart shows you the minimum and maximum frame rates, as well as the average frame rate, recorded by Total War : Warhammer‘s internal DirectX 12 benchmark.

The GeForce GTX 1070 Founder’s Edition extended its performance lead over the Radeon RX 480 (8GB), from 27% to 33%. It also improved its performance lead over the GeForce GTX 1060, albeit slightly – from 37% to 38%.

The Ultra HD resolution proved too much for most cards. Only the GeForce GTX 1070 Founder’s Edition and the GeForce GTX 980 Ti delivered playable frame rates. Their performance gap was virtually non-existent, but they were both 40% to 44% faster than the GeForce GTX 1060 and the Radeon RX 480 (8GB).
