Samsung just unveiled their next-generation foldable smartphone – the Galaxy Z Fold 2, with larger cover and main displays!

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 : A Quick Primer!

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is the successor to the Galaxy Fold – the first Samsung foldable smartphone.

It naturally comes with a bevy of improvements, which should hopefully correct many of the criticisms of their first effort.

Larger Cover + Main Screens

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is about the same size as the Galaxy Fold, but comes with a slightly larger 7.6-inch Main Screen and much larger 6.2-inch Cover Screen.

The Main Screen looks much larger, because of the narrow bezels and the removal of the large notch. On top of that, it now adaptively changes its refresh rate from 11 Hz to 120 Hz.

Samsung Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) now protects the Main Screen, making it more durable and giving it a more refined feel (so they say!).

Hideaway Hinge + Sweeper Technology

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 utilises the Hideaway Hinge with a dual-cam design, first introduced in the Galaxy Z Flip. This enables its free standing capabilities, including its new Flex mode.

The Hideaway Hinge also features sweeper technology from the Galaxy Z Flip – protecting the hinge by repelling dust and dirt. It uses a third-generation design to deliver the same protection in a smaller space.

Finally, Samsung is letting you customise your Galaxy Z Fold 2 with four Hideaway Hinge colours – Metallic Silver, Metallic Gold, Metallic Red and Metallic Blue.

Flagship Cameras

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 comes with a bevy of cameras :

  • Cover Camera : 10 MP, f/2.2 aperture
  • Front Camera : 10 MP, f/2.2 aperture
  • Rear Camera (Main) : 12 MP Dual Pixel, f/1.8 aperture
  • Rear Camera (Ultra-Wide) : 12 MP, f/2.2
  • Rear Camera (Telephoto) : 12 MP, f/2.4

The main camera features a Bright Night sensor, which is 1.65X larger than that used in the Galaxy Z Flip, which allows for better low-light performance.

It also comes with the same flagship camera features introduced in the Galaxy Note 20 smartphones – Pro Video, Single Take, Bright Night and Night Mode.

Multitasking Galore

The large Main Screen allows for significant multitasking capabilities :

  • Multi-Active Window lets you open multiple files from the same app and view them side-by-side
  • Multi-Window Tray lets you open multiple apps at the same time, with drag and drop capabilities.
  • Split Screen Capture lets you capture the screen of one app, and transfer it into a different app.

Galaxy Z Premier Service

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 users will have access to Galaxy Z Premier Service, with on-demand concierge support from a dedicated team of product experts.

You can make appointments, to connect one-on-one with Samsung experts. On top of that, you will have one-time device protection against accidental display damage for one year.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 will be available in two colour options – Mystic Black (left) and Mystic Bronze (right).
