Together with the Galaxy S21 smartphones, Samsung also introduced their Galaxy SmartTag Bluetooth tracker!
Take a look at the new Samsung Galaxy SmartTag, and find out what exactly it does!
Samsung Galaxy SmartTag : Hands-On Preview!
Samsung Galaxy SmartTag is a Bluetooth tracker, which you can attach to keys, bags, or anything important you want to keep track of.
It emits a Bluetooth Low Energy signal, which lets your Galaxy devices locate the tracker, and thus the attached item.
Just tap the Ring button in the Samsung SmartThings app, and the SmartTag will emit a piercing tone, at up to 89 dB.
You can also find your Samsung Galaxy smartphone using the SmartTag. Press its button twice, and your smartphone will ring!
In case its tone is too soft or muffled, the SmartThings app will give you its signal strength, letting you pretend that you are tracking Aliens, albeit without direction.
And even if it’s out of range, nearby Galaxy devices will pick up its signal and transmit it to you through the Galaxy Find Network.
It can also act as a remote control for IoT routines. You can program its button to trigger different IoT devices like turning on the smart lights and the thermostat in your home.
However, the Galaxy SmartTag only works with Samsung Galaxy devices. So you can forget about using it with non-Samsung devices, or an iPhone.
The SmartTag is powered by a single CR2032 battery, and is IP53-rated, which means it is not waterproof but can withstand water splashes (like raindrops).
Samsung Galaxy SmartTag+ : UWB Coming Soon!
While there were rumours that it would support UWB (Ultra Wideband), that capability will only be introduced in a future Galaxy SmartTag+ tracker.
The UWB capability of SmartTag+ will allow you to see on a map the direction of the tracker, making it easier to locate than the Bluetooth version.
But it will only work with the Galaxy S21 Ultra, Galaxy S21+ and Galaxy Note20 Ultra, which support UWB.
Samsung Galaxy SmartTag : Price + Availability
The Samsung Galaxy SmartTag is available in two colour options – Black and Oatmeal.
It has an official price of US$29.99 / £29 / RM119, but here in Malaysia, it’s available at a discounted launch price of RM79.
