A PowerPoint presentation on Klang Valley shopping malls with COVID-19 cases in the last 14 days has gone viral, but it is really misleading.
Find out what happened, and what the facts really are!
Shopping Malls With COVID-19 Cases : The Viral List
The PowerPoint presentation was prepared by Sensata Technologies Malaysia, apparently for their internal use.
It boasts that no Sensata Technologies Malaysia employee has tested positive for COVID-19, and included a list of shopping malls with COVID-19 cases in the last 14 days.
It appears to suggest that STM employees should not go to these shopping malls, or any shopping mall, to ensure they won’t get infected.
Shopping Malls With COVID-19 Cases : Misleading!
The list of shopping malls with COVID-19 cases was compiled by Sensata Technologies Malaysia based on the MySejahtera app.
The list accurately shows what MySejahtera reported, but the list is MISLEADING and here are the reasons why…
Reason #1 : KKM Confirmed That It’s Misleading
The Malaysia Ministry of Health (KKM) confirmed that this list is misleading, because of the reasons below…
Reason #2 : MySejahtera Does Not Show Cases For Specific Locations
The MySejahtera app allows you to look up specific locations, but it will NOT show the case numbers for any specific location.
It is not possible for anyone to use MySejahtera to find out that IKEA Damansara has 3 cases, for example.
MySejahtera will only show you the number of reported COVID-19 cases within a 1 km radius. That’s a 3.14 square kilometre area.
Reason #3 : MySejahtera Shows Cases In 1 KM Radius In Past 14 Days
The MySejahtera Hot Spot tracker feature only lists the number of reported COVID-19 cases in the last 14 days.
If you try it out now, you can search for Pavilion KL, and it will say,
There have been 804 reported case(s) of COVID-19 within a 1 km radius from your searched location in the last 14 days.
It cannot be used to confirm that Pavilion KL has 834 cases on 1 January 2021, and 804 cases on 2 January 2021.
What those numbers mean is that on 1 January 2021, the area surrounding Pavilion KL had 834 cases, and that dropped to 804 cases on 2 January 2021.
