Hand Sanitiser : Can It Set Your Car On Fire?

Hand Sanitiser : Can It Set Your Car On Fire?

People are sharing videos of cars catching fire from hand sanitisers left inside under the hot sun, but can a hand sanitiser really set your car on fire? Let’s find out!

Hand Sanitiser : Can It Set Your Car On Fire?

Fake news creators, including websites trying to go viral, keep churning out stories about hand sanitisers setting cars and even hands on fire.

Here is a recent example by Scoop – a brand new “entertainment” website, which basically copies and sensationalises news from other outlets.

The writer picked up the news from Daily Express, but added the claim it was caused by a hand sanitiser to sensationalise the story and make it go viral.

The original news report pointed out that the fire started in the engine compartment when the driver attempted to start the car (which underwent an engine overhaul the day before).

Hand Sanitiser : No, It Cannot Set Your Car On Fire!

Now, let us explain the science of why hand sanitisers cannot set your car on fire…

Fact #1 : Many Hand Sanitisers Are Not Flammable

There are two main types of hand sanitisers – alcohol-based hand sanitisers, and non-alcohol hand sanitisers.

The non-alcohol based hand sanitisers are based on povidone-iodine, triclosan or benzalkonium chloride, and are completely not flammable.

Alcohol-based hand sanitisers are somewhat flammable, but it all depends on their alcohol content. Those with lower alcohol concentrations – 60-70%, are less flammable than those with higher concentrations – 90-95%.

Recommended : Hand Sanitiser vs Soap : Which Should YOU Use?

Fact #2 : Alcohol Don’t Evaporate That Easily

Many people will point out that alcohol can evaporate, and the vapours are highly flammable. That is true but the boiling points of common types of alcohol used in hand sanitisers are pretty high :

  • Ethanol : 78.37 °C
  • Isopropyl alcohol : 82.5 °C
  • N-propanol : 97.0 °C

But how hot can your car get in a very hot day? Up to 60°C, according to the Metro UK.

In other words – your car won’t get HOT ENOUGH to evaporate the alcohol in your hand sanitiser!

Fact #3 : Alcohol Will Not Spontaneously Ignite

In August 2010, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a report on the flammability of alcohol-based hand sanitiser. Here were their key findings :

  • a hand sanitiser with 60% alcohol is flammable, but only using a direct flame.
  • alcohol vapour can only be produced by directly heating the hand sanitiser
  • alcohol vapour can only be ignited by a direct flame – it won’t spontaneously ignite.

Hand Sanitiser : Which Should You Get?

For a hand sanitiser to be effective at breaking apart coronaviruses like COVID-19, it needs to have an alcohol content of 60% to 95%.

Top healthcare authorities like the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and the World Health Organisation (WHO), recommend using alcohol-based hand sanitisers over any other type of hand sanitiser.

If you are concerned about dry skin, just apply some moisturiser after rubbing the alcohol-based hand sanitiser dry on your hands.

Fact Check : Are There Two Sides To A Surgical Mask?

Whenever there is haze or a viral epidemic, people start sharing tips on how to wear a surgical mask. Unfortunately, many of these social media posts are wrong.

We will debunk a hoax FALSELY teaching people that there are two sides of a surgical mask, and teach you THE CORRECT WAY to wear + remove a surgical mask.

Are There Two Sides To A Surgical Mask?

This hoax claiming that there are TWO SIDES to a surgical mask has been spreading across the Internet, on blogs, Facebook and of course, WhatsApp.

Here is the hoax about how even doctors do not know how to properly wear a surgical / medical mask… grammatical mistakes and all.

While at the doctors office today, we were informed by a Nurse the proper way to use a medical mask.

I didn’t know about this before. I thought it would be helpful to share, Because I was using them wrong the entire time.

When using a medical mask you’re suppose to use as follows:

Colored side out if you’re sick and do not want to spread your germs around.

White side out (this is the filter part) for when you’re not sick and you want to stop germs from getting in.

I always just assumed the color (blue) side went outward.

The Nurse said the entire doctors office never knew either, until the supplier sent them “proper directions” for them this past week!

Hope this helps!

Well, NO, it does not help. In fact, this hoax will probably result in a lot of people stupidly wearing their surgical masks the wrong way…

No, There Is Only ONE SIDE To A Surgical Mask

Surgical masks are coloured on ONE SIDE to make it easy for medical staff to figure out which side FACES OUT.

Whether they are coloured blue, green or pink, the COLOURED SIDE is meant to face OUTWARDS.

If the mask you are using has no colour, then it is NOT a 3-ply surgical mask – just a simple 2-ply face mask that is meant to maintain hygiene in a clean room or kitchen.

Recommended : Fact Check : Prolonged Use of Face Mask Causes Hypoxia!

The Filter Is Always The Middle Layer

The hoax falsely claims that the white layer is the filter.

A 3-ply surgical mask has three layers :

  • an outer hydrophobic layer, which repels water, blood and body fluids,
  • a middle filter layer that is designed to filter bacteria, and
  • an inner hydrophilic layer, which absorbs water, sweat and spit

In a 2-ply face mask, both layers are usually made from the same material – fabric or polypropylene or other kinds of non-woven material. There is NO FILTER layer. They are usually used in spas and restaurants.

Recommended : Hand Sanitiser vs Soap : Which Should We Use?

Why It’s Important To Wear A Surgical Mask Correctly

The middle filter works no matter which way you wear the surgical mask, so the hoax is complete hogwash.

However, wearing it the wrong way will reduce your comfort as you will be exhaling into the outer hydrophobic (water-repelling) layer, instead of the inner absorbent layer.

Those working with actual patients will want to wear it correctly too, because the outer water-repelling layer will help prevent blood and other bodily fluids from soaking through to the filter.

How To Wear A Surgical Mask Correctly

Here are some step-by-step instructions for wearing a surgical mask correctly :

  1. Clean your hands with soap and water, or hand sanitiser, before touching the mask
  2. Hold the mask so that the stiff bendable strip is on top, and the coloured side facing outwards.
  3. If the surgical mask has ear loops
    – hold the mask by the ear loops, and place a loop around each ear.
  4. If the surgical mask has ties
    – bring the mask to your nose and place the ties over the crown of your head,
    – then secure the mask by tying them in a bow.
  5. If the surgical mask has elastic bands
    – bring the mask to your nose and pull the top band over your head, and let it rest on the crown of your head,
    – pull the bottom strap over your head and let it rest on the nape of your neck.
  6. Mould or pinch the nose strip to conform to the shape of your nose.
  7. Pull the bottom of the surgical mask over your mouth and chin.

How To Remove A Surgical Mask Correctly

After use, the surgical mask will be dirty and contaminated and must be removed and disposed of properly.

So please follow these instructions, to avoid infecting yourself while removing your mask :

  1. Clean your hands with soap and water, or hand sanitiser, before touching the mask.
  2. AVOID touching the front of the mask, because it is contaminated. Only touch the ear loops / ear ties / ear bands.
  3. If the surgical mask has ear loops – hold and unhook both ear loops and gently lift the mask away from your face.
  4. If the surgical mask has ties – untie the bottom bow first, followed by the top bow, before pulling the mask away from your face
  5. If the surgical mask has elastic bands – lift the bottom strap over your head first, and then pull the top strap over your head
  6. Holding the mask only by the ear loops / ear ties / ear bands, dispose of the mask in the trash.
  7. Clean your hands with soap and water, or hand sanitiser again, before touching anything else.

Surgical Mask : Where To Buy?

Now, we have to point out that surgical masks cannot filter air pollution, especially the dangerous PM2.5 particulates.

Surgical masks are designed to filter out bacteria, not tiny particulates in air pollution.

But if you want to buy surgical masks, make sure they are proper 3-layer surgical masks, and not 2-ply face masks. Here are some online purchase links :

Scam Alert : Fake PS4 Promotions On Facebook!

Watch out for a new scam involving fake PS4 promotions on Facebook! At least one person has already been cheated of his money!

Please SHARE this news out, so other people won’t get cheated by this scammer!

Scam Alert : Fake PS4 Promotions On Facebook!

Video game store GameOn just posted about a scammer pretending to be them on Facebook, promoting these fake PS4 bundle deals :

  • PS4 Pro : RM 799 with 2 free games and 2 controllers
  • PS4 Slim : RM 699 with 2 free games and 2 controllers

The scammer, using the similarly sounding GameOn City, offered this fake-looking SSM company registration certificate to prove his authenticity.

GameOn apparently found out about this scam, after someone got cheated and contacted them about it.

GameOn, which is based in Petaling Jaya (not Negeri Sembilan as the GameOn City SSM certificate shows), and has been in business since 2015.

Although they did not share the full MyKad, here is what we know about this PS4 Hari Raya scammer :

  • His partial name : xxxxxrady Enggu
  • His partial MyKad : 331-08-5133
  • His mobile number : 011-2512-4387
  • His origin : He appears to be from Malim Nawar, Kampar, Perak.

But please note that this scammer can easily use a different company name, so do not assume that other PS4 offers on Facebook are genuine!

Fake PS4 Scam : How To Avoid It?

Here are some simple steps to avoid falling for such a scam :

  • If a deal is too good to be true, it is very likely to be fake or a scam.
The real PS4 Pro bundle costs RM 2,399 – how can it possibly be sold for just RM 799, which is just ⅓ of the price?
  • Real companies will not post up their SSM certificates. Only those who need to convince you that they are legit.
  • Never transfer money to anyone’s personal bank account.
  • Purchase only from legitimate companies / online stores. Not through WhatsApp or Facebook.

GrabPay Scam : Don’t Link Your Debit Card / Bank Account!

Beware of a new GrabPay scam that can quickly suck your debit cards and bank account dry!

Don’t link your debit card or bank account with GrabPay, and SHARE this warning with your family and friends!

GrabPay Scam Alert : Don’t Link Your Bank Account!

On 16 May 2020, Muhammad Syahir recounted how he was cheated of almost RM 900 through a GrayPay scam. Here is a brief summary of what happened :

  • The scammer created a new Instagram account, pretending to be the victim’s friend.
  • He messaged the victim asking for his phone number.
  • After receiving the victim’s phone number, he messaged him through Instagram to tell him about the GrabPay 8th Anniversary Campaign.
  • The victim was asked to look out for a GrabPay code, which would reveal what he won.

  • After sending the GrabPay code (not a TAC code) to the scammer, the victim saw RM 425 being debited into his GrabPay account. Unbeknownst to him, that money was from his own bank account!
  • A few minutes later, the victim received a notification that the RM 425 was paid to UNIPIN (M) SDN. BHD.
  • The scammer messaged him again on Instagram, asking for a second code that was sent to the victim.
  • The victim then received another notification from GrabPay stating that another RM 425 was paid to UNIPIN (M) SDN. BHD.
  • After that, the scammer blocked the victim on Instagram. That was when the victim got suspicious.
  • When the victim checked his bank account, he discovered that he lost RM 896.30 to the scammer.
  • In total, the scammer made 5 withdrawals through GrabPay – four from his debit card, and one from his bank account.

Another person – Patrick Saw – also fell for the same GrabPay scam, losing RM 405.

GrabPay Scam Alert : GrabPay Flaws?

Muhammad Syahir highlighted what he felt were major flaws with GrabPay :

  1. GrabPay allows credit / debit card transactions without CVV verification or OTP from the bank.
  2. GrabPay will not notify you about any first-time login attempt of a different gadget in a different location.
  3. GrabPay does not require users to set-up a secured PIN for any big transactions – e.g. more than RM100.
  4. If your bank account is linked to your GrabPay e-wallet, there won’t be any SMS notification for bank transfers to your e-wallet.

According to his experience, the scammer only needed to use the Grab Activation Code to withdraw money from all bank accounts / debit cards linked to your GrabPay app.

GrabPay Scam Alert : How To Avoid It?

To avoid falling prey to such a scam, here is what you should do :

  • NEVER accept a friendship request from a new social media account, until you have verified with your friend (through a phone call or face-to-face) that he/she created that new account.
  • NEVER send any code you receive to anyone. Even if it is a friend, why does he/she need the code that was sent to YOU?
  • Businesses will never give away free money for anniversaries. Don’t fall for such an old trick!
  • NEVER link your debit card or bank account to an e-wallet. Only link a credit card, because they are insured and protected against fraud. If you get scammed, you can call the bank to ask for a refund.

GrabPay Scam Alert : Original Post + Police Report

Here was what Muhammad Syahir posted earlier, together with his police report :

SCAM ALERT VIA GRAB PAY!
It happened to me last night and I have lost almost RM1K in a few minutes via Grab Pay.

The incident happened when one of my close friends re-created a new Instagram account and requested to follow me. He messaged me and asked for my phone number via Instagram message. Without any doubt, I gave him my phone number, knowing that he probably has lost my phone number.

He posted a few photos to his newly-created Instagram account so it does not look like a phishing account.

After that, he sent another message to me about GrabPay 8th year special campaign. He was telling me that I will send a message with a code to your phone and please let me know the code and I will see what you have won.

Grab Activation Code was sent to my phone number. It was an activation code not TAC code. I gave the activation code to him without any doubt because I know that he is my friend. Also, I was thinking of this is just an activation code, it has nothing to do with my bank accounts.

The tricks started here. I saw RM425 was debited to my GrabPay account and I did not know that it was from my bank account which was linked to the GrabPay account. After a few minutes, I received a new notification from the GrabPay that RM425 was paid to UNIPIN (M) SDN BHD.

The scammer then messaged me again on Instagram. Another activation code was sent to your phone, please let me know the code. Then, I have received another notification from GrabPay that another RM425 was paid to UNIPIN (M) SDN BHD.

When I was about to reply him a message, he blocked me up. That was the time that I know something fishy has happened. When I checked my Maybank2u, I have lost a total amount of RM896.30 from my bank account. The scammer has cleared all the money in my bank account and left RM60 balance to my GrabPay.

The scammer did a total of 5 transactions as you can see from my GrabPay activity picture below. 4 transactions were made directly via debit card which is linked to my GrabPay account and 1 transaction was made via Maybank2u. The scammer even managed to access my Maybank2u account from the GrabPay account.

It happened to me in a blink of an eye where you were blinded by this scammer who cat fished your close friend to do this scam.

On top of that, let me highlight the flaws of the GrabPay app:

1) Grab allows credit/debit card transaction without the bank’s authorization OTP and also the CVV verification.
2) Grab does not notify the user via email for any first-time login attempts of different gadgets in different location.
3) Upon registering this app for the past few years, Grab did not put a clause for the users to mandatorily set up their secured pin for any big transactions that are more than RM100.
4) Your bank account that is linked to your GrabPay will not notify you via sms for any debit transaction from the bank to the GrabPay.

*The scammer just need the Grab Activation Code and he can take all the money from your linked bank accounts on the Grab app. Such a flaw app!

Please be aware of this scam and help me to share this news. I have also tag a person who has faced the same case last week. You may also check on his Facebook profile. Patrick Saw has lost RM405 from the scammer who has approached him the same way as mine.

Ransomware Warning : 1 in 3 Attacks Target Business Users!

INTERPOL and Kaspersky are urging organisations to protect their data against ransomware, because 1 in 3 attacks target business users!

Ransomware Warning : 1 in 3 Attacks Target Business Users!

Recent Kaspersky research revealed that in 2019, WannaCry is still the most prevalent ransomware circulating, and some 30% of people targeted by ransomware were business users!

  • 30% of ransomware attacks targeted business users
  • Organisations lost, on average, US$1.46 million in costs, fines and repetitional damage in 2019
  • WannaCry attacked 164,433 users in 2019, and accounted for 21% of all ransomware attacks.
  • GrandCrab accounted for 11% of attacks, while Stop accounted for 4%.

WannaCry, arguably the world’s most famous ransomware, reached its peak 3 years ago – on 12 May 2017 – but continues to wreak havoc on unsuspecting victims.

GrandCrab is famous for its ransomware-as-a-service model, rented out to cybercriminals by its developers. Meanwhile, Stop spreads through compromised software and websites, as well as adware.

Ransomware : How To Protect Your Business

Here are some tips that Kaspersky is recommending to stay protected against ransomware :

  • Explain to employees how following simple rules can help a company avoid ransomware incidents.
  • Always have fresh back-up copies of your files so you can replace them in case they are lost (e.g. due to malware or a broken device).
  • Don’t just rely on a physical backup, but also store your backup in the cloud for greater reliability.
  • Always update your operating system and software to eliminate recent vulnerabilities.
  • Use anti-ransomware software, which will prevent ransomware from exploiting vulnerabilities in software and applications – especially important for customers who continue to use Windows 7.

And if a corporate device is encrypted by ransomware, please remember that the attack is a criminal offence. You should NOT pay the ransom.

Instead, report the ransomware attack to your local law enforcement agency, and find a decryptor that may work for you. Some are available for FREE.

Fact Check : Tasuku Honjo Bets Nobel Prize On China Creating COVID-19

Professor Dr. Tasuku Honjo allegedly bet his 2018 Nobel Prize that the COVID-19 coronavirus was created by China, based on his knowledge and research.

Find out what exactly he said, and if it’s true that the COVID-19 coronavirus was really created by China!

Updated @ 2020-05-11 : Added two new facts about the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine that Professor Dr. Tasuku Honjo won.

Originally posted @ 2020-04-27

Claim : Tasuku Honjo Says COVID-19 Was Created By China!

Mir Monaz Haque, the Editor-In-Chief of Asia Today, posted this on 25 April 2020 :

Japan’s Nobel prize winning Professor of Medicine, Professor Dr Tasuku Honjo (Tasuku Honjo is a Japanese physician-scientist and immunologist. He shared the 2018 Nobel Prize in Medicine or Physiology and is best known for his identification of programmed cell death protein)

Tasuku Honjo created a sensation today by saying that the Coronavirus is not natural.

“If it is natural, it wouldn’t have adversely affected the entire world like this. Because, as per nature, temperature is different in different countries. If it is natural, it would adversely affect only those countries having the same temperature as China. Instead, it is spreading in a country like Switzerland, in the same way it is spreading in the desert areas. Whereas if it were natural, it would have spread in cold places, but died in hot places.

I have done 40 years of research on animals and viruses. It is not natural. It is manufactured and the virus is completely artificial. I have worked for 4 years in the Wuhan laboratory in China. I am fully acquainted with all the staff of that laboratory. I have been phoning them all, after the Coronavirus surfaced. But all their phones are dead for the last 3 months. It is now understood that all these lab technicians have died.

Based on all my knowledge and research till date, I can say this with 100% confidence – That the Coronavirus is not natural. It did not come from bats. China manufactured it. If what I am saying today is proved false now or even after my death, the government can withdraw my Nobel Prize. China is lying and this truth will one day be revealed to everyone”.

Our Verdict : Complete Bullshit

This story is such complete bullshit and it is truly shocking that the Editor-In-Chief for Asia Today would post this without fact-checking. The fact of the matter is :

  • Professor Tasuku Honjo issued a statement refuting those claims.
  • Professor Tasuku Honjo does not work on viruses, and has never been to the Wuhan laboratory.
  • Genomic analysis have proven that SARS-CoV-2 is a natural virus that is very closely-related to bat coronaviruses.
  • The Nobel Prize was not awarded by any government, and cannot be withdrawn.

Tasuku Honjo Says COVID-19 Created By China : The Facts

For those who are thinking to themselves, “How do you know it’s fake? You were NOT there!“, here are the reasons why we know for sure…

Fact #1 : Viruses Can Spread In Cold + Warm Climates

While certain viruses spread better in warmer climates, other viruses spread better in colder climates.

The susceptibility of a virus to humidity and temperature depends on whether it has a lipid bilayer envelope or not.

The COVID-19 coronavirus is enveloped, and is thus more likely to spread better in cold, dry climates. But that doesn’t mean it cannot spread well in warm, humid climates.

Fact #2 : The COVID-19 Virus Is Natural, And Related To Bats

Genomic analysis have proven that the COVID-19 is natural, for these reasons :

  • an artificial virus would have to be created from existing viruses and their genetic data
  • the SARS-CoV-2 virus has components that have never been seen before
  • it is very similar to existing bat coronaviruses.

Fact #3 : Professor Honjo Does Not Work On Viruses

Tasuku Honjo is a professor of Immunology and Genomic Medicine. He has only worked on immunology, not virology.

His 2018 Nobel Prize, in particular, was for his work on stimulating the immune system to attack tumour cells in cancer.

Fact #4 : Professor Honjo Has Never Worked In The Wuhan Laboratory

Professor Tasuku Honjo has been working at the Kyoto University since 2005. He has never worked in Wuhan, much less the BSL-4 laboratory of the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

Fact #5 : Tasuku Honjo Issued A Statement On This Claim

Professor Honjo issued this statement through one of his PhD students :

Prof. Honjo never gave any such statement. Each and every sentence of this post is completely false and has no connection with truth.

Prof. Honjo never worked in Wuhan laboratory. He never called there. He did not work on virus origin and functions and other related issues.

All the contents are just concocted and nothing else.

Fact #6 : Tasuku Honjo Said COVID-19 Originated In China

In an interview with Nikkei Asian Review on 10 April 2020, Professor Tasuku Honjo said that COVID-19 originated in China, but also that it will be the first country to recover from it.

However, he never said that it was manufactured or created by China. Originating in a country, is quite different from creating it.

Fact #6 : The Nobel Prize Is Not Awarded By Any Government

The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine is NOT awarded by any government. It has been awarded by the Nobel Assembly at the Karolinska Institutet since 1901.

Fact #7 : The Nobel Prize Cannot Be Revoked / Withdrawn

Under the Nobel Foundation statutes, the Nobel Prize may not be revoked or withdrawn after it is awarded.

Fact Check : Prolonged Use of Face Mask Causes Hypoxia!

Can prolonged use of a face mask cause hypoxia? That’s what Dr. Dennis Castro is warning everyone!

Find out if it’s true that you can faint from hypoxia after wearing a face mask for a long time!

Claim : Prolonged Use of Face Mask Causes Hypoxia!

This warning by Dr. Dennis Castro was apparently posted on Vanguard Nigeria (which we will NOT share), and has been widely shared on WhatsApp and Facebook :

CAUTION: Prolonged use of mask produces hypoxia

Dr Dennis A Castro B has revealed that, prolonged use of mask produces hypoxia. Breathing over and over exhaled air turns into carbon dioxide, which is why we feel dizzy. This intoxicates the user and much more when he must move, carry out displacement actions. It causes discomfort, loss of reflexes and conscious thought. It generates great fatigue. In addition, oxygen deficiency causes glucose breakdown and endangered lactic acid rise.

Some people drive their car with the mask on, that is very dangerous, because, the stale air can make the driver lose consciousness.

It is recommended to use it only if you have someone in front or very close, and it is important to remember to lift it every 10 minutes to continue feeling healthy.

It is counterproductive for people who serve the public for 8 hours, as they are intoxicating themselves without knowing it.

All lives are important.!
That prevention does not lead you to another problem … let’s use the mask knowingly.

Dr. Dennis A Castro B

WARNING: Prolonged use of facemask produces hypoxia

Now, let us tell you why you need not worry about hypoxia from prolonged use of a face mask.

Prolonged Use of Face Mask Causes Hypoxia : The Facts

We have no idea who Dr. Dennis A Castro B is, but the advice is generally FALSE, and here are the facts.

Fact #1 : Face Masks Are Porous

Face masks and even respirators are porous, and are specifically designed to let the wearer breathe through a filter.

Fact #2 : Face Masks Are Loose Fitting

All types of face masks – surgical masks, pitta masks or home-made cloth masks – are also loose fitting, and do not fit closely to your face. Air “leaks” through gaps all around the edges.

That’s why they do poorly against air pollution, and unlike N95 respirators, cannot be used for “airborne precautions“. That is the same reason why you can’t get hypoxic even if you wear them for hours.

Fact #3 : Face Masks Are Designed For Long Hours Of Use

Face masks are not designed for any specific period of time of use, but tight-fitting N95 respirators are designed for 8 hours of continuous / intermittent use.

Two studies (1415) have even confirmed that healthcare workers can use N95 respirators for long hours before needing to remove them.

Fact #4 : There Is Very Little Space In A Face Mask

When properly worn, face masks have very little space for stale air to accumulate.

When you breathe out, the face mask may puff out a little – that’s all the stale air you’ll take in with the next breath. The rest gets out through the filter, or the gaps around the face mask.

That is why people who have panic attacks use a paper bag to trap their exhaled air, which they rebreathe to increase their carbon dioxide intake.

Fact #5 : Most Civilians Won’t Wear Face Masks For Long Hours

Unless you are a healthcare worker, or work in very dusty workplaces, you are unlikely to wear face masks for long hours.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, face masks are used only when we go out in public. There is no need to wear face masks at home, or in your personal vehicle.

Fact #6 : You May Get A Headache / Feel Uncomfortable

Now, the carbon dioxide will build up with extended use, but most people will tolerate and not notice it.

Those who are sensitive to the increase in carbon dioxide may get a headache or feel uncomfortable. Certainly, they will be motivated to remove the face mask long before they develop hypoxia and lose consciousness.

Interestingly, a study looked into this issue and found that the biggest problem was headache, and even that was for healthcare workers who had to wear N95 respirators for long hours during the SARS epidemic.

Fact #7 : You Should NOT Touch Your Face Mask!

Now, it is BAD ADVICE to lift your face mask every 10 minutes to “get some fresh air”.

Once you put on your face mask and go out in public, you should consider it (and your hands) contaminated. At no point should you touch the front of your face mask, much less lift it up over and over again.

If you follow that bad advice to keep lifting your face mask every 10 minutes, you could contaminate yourself in the process.

Brian Young of High Impact Vlogs posted a video on YouTube to prove that COVID-19 was a plandemic to let governments gain tighter control of their sheeple citizens.

It was based on a simple “misunderstanding” of the CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security) Act.

We won’t share that video with you because it’s full of lies, but here is a “high impact” screenshot from his video, which summarises his “evidence” of the COVID-19 plandemic.

Brian Refuses To Remove His Fake CARES Act Video

We had earlier debunked the CARES Act conspiracy theory in our article – Fact Check : CARES Act (HR 748) Proves COVID-19 Plot!

But even after he realised that he was wrong, Brian refused to take down his video, claiming that he wanted it to serve as an “example” of how he got it wrong.

He simply changed the title to “I GOT THIS WAY WRONG GUYS…PLEASE…READ the PINNED COMMENT” and posted a pinned comment that claims he got a huge part of the video wrong. He got it ALL wrong, for the record.

And it didn’t stop him from pitching to everyone to still support his cause.

However, his excuse for not taking down his fake video is facetious for two reasons :

  • he could easily take it down and post a new video with sections of his fake video, explaining how he got it wrong
  • he created an “apology video” that was mostly about excusing his mistake, and asserting other conspiracy theories

He continues to rake in thousands of views for that debunked video, which should have earned him a strike by YouTube.

Recommended : Fact Check : CARES Act Is Proof Of COVID-19 Plandemic?

People Still Don’t Know The CARES Act Video Is Fake!

Even though the title has been changed, people do not seem to notice it. Possibly because the video is being shared with adoring comments like :

美国政府未卜先知。
The US government has no known prophet.

Must watch this video. It shows that based on public documents…. etc, US goverment came out with an act to tackle Corona Virus way back in January 2019!!!

And

OMG ! This is probably, the most damaging vid of the year, for the US of A!

Trump signed the US$2.2T Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) on 27th March 2020.

Guess when the bill for the Act was TABLED in Congress? 24th January 2019!!! These bastards introduced the Bill in the House more than ONE YEAR AGO on 24/1/19!

Typically, Bills take more than a year to wind its way through Congress before it is finally passed into law and becomes an Act!

See the Congressional Records in the pix below. It shows the progress of the Bill, as it moves its way through the House Ways and Means Committee, all the way up to Debate in the House on 17/7/19, and after being passed in the House, continue winding it’s way up to the Senate for ratification before finally ending up on Trump’s desk for signing on 26/3/20.

Bloody Heck! The US knew in advance of the pandemic in 2019! That dumbass, Trump, may not know the details in 2019, but for sure CONGRESS KNEW!

So the coronavirus in Wuhan was bio-warfare and Trump was so confident that there’d be no problems in the US, because he must have been advised that the US was prepared, or that the US strain of the virus was mild, but it turned out to be false. In all likelihood, the Democrats wanted a full-blown crisis, as an excuse to topple the Trump.(Trump was so confident, he’d advised Americans not to wear masks)

So now, after the debacle, they have to resort to anti-China bashing, to divert attention! Who would ever guess that these politician-bastards in the US of A, can be soooo dastardly?

Meanwhile, High Impact Vlogs continues to rake in the views, and presumably – money and likes.

It sadly demonstrates that even bad publicity is publicity… so we doubt this kerfuffle will stop Brian from coming up with more BS videos.

The money is just too sweet…

Stop Supporting Fake News!

Conspiracy crackpots like Brian Young are usually very eloquent, but they are invariably wrong because they have no qualms lying, and often see causation where there is only correlation.

Please do your part to stop the creation and spread of fake news.

STOP supporting conspiracy crackpots.

STOP sharing their videos and articles.

Fact Check : Kim Yo Jong Confirms Kim Jong Un Is Dead

Did Kim Yo Jong just confirm that her brother and North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un is dead, with LIVE videos of his funeral?

Find out what’s going on, and if it’s true that Kim Jong Un is dead.

Claim : Kim Yo Jong Confirms Kim Jong Un Is Dead

Just hours ago, a Kim Yo Jong Facebook page started sharing videos of what it claimed were scenes from Kim Jong Un’s funeral.

Here are the comments that accompanied those videos :

Live My Brother North Korea Kim Jong Un Is Dead. RIP Kim Jong UN

Live North Korea State TV announces the death of leader Kim Jong UN

EXCLUSIVE: Kim Jong Un funeral scenes

Kim Jong Funeral

Our Verdict : Utter Bullshit

Now, we do not know if Kim Jong Un is dead or alive … but Kim Yo Jong definitely did not confirm that her brother is dead.

  • that Facebook page does not belong to Kim Yo Jong
  • the videos are NOT live streams from North Korea
  • the Kaheva video was recorded 5 days ago
  • the funeral videos were from Kim Jong Il’s funeral in December 2011

This Facebook page was likely created to farm Facebook Likes and Follows. Last we checked, it had 22K Likes and 50K Follows.

The admins can later sell the Page to someone else to rename and reuse for other purposes.

To maximise their efforts, they created at least two other Pages with similar content – Hantavirus and Trending Today USA – both new pages.

Please DO NOT LIKE / FOLLOW such pages! And please DO NOT SHARE their posts!

Kim Yo Jong Confirms Kim Jong Un Is Dead : Hoax Debunked!

For those who are thinking to themselves, “How do you know it’s fake? You were NOT there!“, here are the reasons why we know for sure…

Fact #1 : Facebook Is Blocked In North Korea

Let’s start with this – North Korea has blocked access to Facebook since April 2016, exactly four years ago.

Okay, you may be thinking – surely, Kim Yo Jong would have access to Facebook, right? Please continue…

Fact #2 : No North Korean Leader Has A Facebook Page

No North Korean leader has ever created a Facebook page, not even Kim Yo Jong. North Korea has no official presence on Facebook.

Fact #3 : That Page Was Created Just Hours Ago!

At the time of writing, the Kim Yo Jong page was created a mere 10 hours ago, and use old, existing photos as the profile and cover photos.

Fact #4 : None Of The Videos Were Live Streamed

Despite mentioning that the videos were live, the page admins posted the first two videos directly.

They later re-released this video of Kaheva (actually recorded 5 days ago) saying that Kim Jong Un is likely dead, from her analysis.

Is it possible for the North Koreans to go back in time to post a live recording that was recorded 4 hours later?

The admins then looped the other video clips, and streamed them to Facebook Live, so they would have the red Live icon, making them look more authentic.

However, if you watch the Live videos, you will realise that it’s the same clip on a loop. A real live video would not do that.

Fact #5 : The Videos Are Of Kim Jong Il’s Funeral!

The four video clips posted or shared on the page were of Kim Jong Il’s state funeral from December 2011.

Here is a screenshot of the original video, showing Kim Jong Un at his father’s funeral.

And when people posted links to the original videos to dispute the claim, the Kim Yo Jong page admins quickly banned them. I literally saw it happen LIVE…

Fact #6 : Impossible For So Many Live Streams From North Korea

At the time we posted this article, three new Facebook Pages – Kim Jo Yong, Hantavirus and Trending Today USA – have posted Live videos of Kim Jong Un’s alleged funeral.

Do you actually believe that it is possible for THREE different persons in North Korea to record the funeral live and stream it on Facebook Live, which is banned and blocked in North Korea?

Fact #7 : His Name Is Kim Jong-un

It is odd for his own sister, or any North Korean citizen or official, to repeatedly mistype his name.

His name is Kim Jong-un, not Kim Jong Un, not Kim Jong UN, not Kim Jong.

Fact Check : Fox News Hot Mic Leaks COVID-19 Hoax + Vaccine

Did Fox News get caught on hot mic admitting that COVID-19 is both a hoax, and has a vaccine? Here are the facts…

Fox News Caught On Hot Mic Leaking COVID-19 Hoax + Vaccine?

On 20 April 2020, John Roberts from Fox News was caught on video talking with another person, just before the start of a US Coronavirus Task Force briefing with US President Donald Trump.

He was heard telling the other person to take off his mask. That man, identified by many as a Fox News tech guy, is heard saying that “everyone here has been vaccinated anyway” before calling it “a hoax“.

The video was viewed over a million times, and shared by many as evidence that the COVID-19 pandemic is a hoax.

Others have also leaped upon the video as evidence that the United States has a COVID-19 vaccine that is only available to the Trump Administration and Fox News.

Thinly-disguised Chinese propaganda efforts have also started to make use of the video to “propose” that the United States orchestrated the COVID-19 pandemic to destroy China and “unwanted populations of the world”.

Fox News Hot Mic COVID-19 Hoax : TLDR Summary

Here is the short and sweet summary for those who don’t have the time for the full debunking :

  • the video is genuine, but taken out of context
  • they were discussing the recent USC study
  • the COVID-19 pandemic is not a hoax
  • there is no COVID-19 vaccine yet

And think about this for a minute…

  • If COVID-19 does not exist, how do you vaccinate against it?
  • If everyone in the room was already vaccinated, why is Doug Mills still wearing a face mask?
  • Why would Donald Trump lie about a working vaccine?
He would LOVE to have a vaccine right now, because it would mean he can restart the economy for a better chance to be re-elected in the coming elections.
  • The United States now has more COVID-19 cases and deaths than China.
How does that fit into the nefarious US plot to use COVID-19 to destroy China?

Fox News Hot Mic COVID-19 Hoax : Debunked!

Now, let’s fact-check the video of the Fox News hot mic capture, as well as the claims that it proves that COVID-19 is a hoax, and that there is already a COVID-19 vaccine.

Fact #1 : The Video Is Genuine

The video of John Roberts from Fox News caught on a hot microphone is genuine. It was recorded just before the US Coronavirus Task Force briefing on April 20, 2020.

Fact #2 : That’s John Roberts + Doug Mills

Many posts correctly identified the first man as John Roberts but wrongly labelled him a Fox News host. He is the Chief White House Correspondent for Fox News.

The second man is not a “Fox News tech guy”, but New York Times photographer Doug Mills.

Fact #3 : They Were Misinterpreted

If you listen to the conversation carefully, you will realise a couple of things :

  • John Roberts was talking about a newly-released USC (University of Southern California) study, which claims a very low mortality rate.
  • Doug Mills was joking when he claimed that “everyone here’s been vaccinated anyway“, because he’s wearing a face mask and doesn’t take it off at all – a vaccinated person does not need to wear a face mask
  • When another journalist pointed out that the study would mean it’s only about dangerous as the flu, Doug Mills asked, “so it’s a hoax?
  • John Roberts can be heard in the background, saying, “No, I don’t think it’s a hoax” – referring to the new USC study.

Fact #4 : John Roberts Clarified The Conversation

John Roberts publicly tweeted that his conversation with Doug Mills was sardonic humour and sarcasm. And he clearly said that there is NO vaccine, and COVID-19 is NOT a hoax.

Fact #5 : COVID-19 Vaccines Are Still Under Development

At the US Coronavirus Task Force press briefing, US President Donald Trump talked about the development of the COVID-19 vaccine at two separate occasions.

He mentioned that tremendous progress was being made on vaccines, and specifically pointed out that Johnson & Johnson are very well along with their vaccine.

If the Trump Administration has a vaccine, and Doug Mills was correct that everyone there was already vaccinated, it wouldn’t make sense for Donald Trump to say that.

In fact, he also pointed out that vaccines have to be tested, and ended by saying that “it will be a great thing when we have that, and we will have that“.

Ji Shan Foundation Charity Scam

Ji Shan Foundation is a charity scam that recently posted this fake call for contributions :

[My sister and brother are suffering from leukaemia] [Complications from a cold] [#DuringMCO, cannot give up no matter how difficult] [Treatment costs are urgent and families cannot support]

Those who wish to donate can donate the money to your dad’s account:

Condition: Acute lymphocyte leukemia

Note : We added the Scam overlay to avoid further abuse of the picture.

Ji Shan Foundation Charity Scam Exposed!

This scam is actually an old RECYCLED scam. It was first posted in March 2019, the same day the Ji Shan Foundation Facebook page was created.

At that time, the Ji Shan Foundation scam urged people to donate to a different “father” – Chai Kok Weng, with a different set of photos.

That same scam was updated on 16 April 2020 to change the name of the benefactor to Sim Zhi Yew, with a different bank account!

Ji Shan Foundation STOLE the photos from Lim Ek who posted those photos on 4 December 2019.

As you can see in his post, his two children were admitted to the Parkcity Medical Centre for Influenza A (H1N1), not leukaemia.

Sim Zhi Yew + Chai Kok Weng : Known Charity Scammers

Both Sim Zhi Yew and Chai Kok Weng have been reported as charity scammers for some time now.

They are currently in the list of 79 reported charity scammers in Malaysia, with the following bank accounts.

  • Sim Zhi Yew : Public Bank 6482344412CIMB 7073855324
  • Chai Kok Weng : RHB 10809800162232

Recommended : Charity Scam : Current List Of 79 Reported Scammers!

Ji Shan Foundation Charity : REPORT THEM!

Despite people reporting the Ji Shan Foundation charity page for over a year now, Facebook has left them alone.

It looks like it will take A LOT of people reporting them before Facebook will do anything. You can help take them down by reporting their page as Fraud or scam :

Charity Scam : How To Avoid It?

While many of us want to help people in need, you should NEVER send money to a charity that you have not first verified to be a genuine charity.

You should certainly NOT send money to any person, without first confirming that he/she really needs the money for that critical surgery or medication.

It doesn’t matter if you are just sending a small token sum. Even ringgit / dollar you send them quickly becomes a substantial amount, and worse, encourages them to create new charity scams.

In Malaysia, you can also use this Commercial Crime Investigations Division page* to check if a bank account number or telephone number has been reported to the Royal Malaysian Police.

* However, please note that the CCID database is not comprehensive, because scammers can easily change their bank accounts and telephone numbers. Also, many victims are unaware they were scammed, and thus never reported them to the police.

The safest thing to do is NOT to send anyone money. Visit them directly to ascertain their authenticity, and donate directly to them.

Fact Check : Chinese Not Allowed In Australian Supermarkets

A video started circulating yesterday as evidence that Chinese people are no longer allowed in Australian supermarkets, presumably another example of COVID-19 racism.

Find out whether the video is genuine, and what’s REALLY going on!

COVID-19 Racism : What Is It?

Early in the pandemic, while COVID-19 was predominantly restricted to China, there were many cases of overt acts of racism and even violence towards Chinese or Asian people in Western countries and Australia.

This was based on the mistaken belief that COVID-19 is a Chinese or Asian disease, and/or it is spread through Chinese or Asian people.

Recommended : COVID-19 Racists Attacked Student On Oxford Street!

Claim : Chinese Not Allowed In Australian Supermarkets

A video is going viral on social media, shared as the latest evidence of COVID-19 racism against Chinese and Asian people in general.

Chinese not allowed in
Supermarkets in Austrilla
So it’s started

Chinese Not Allowed In Australian Supermarkets : FALSE

Now, the video is genuine and was recorded just days ago, so it is recent as well. However, it is NOT a video of COVID-19 racism. Here are the facts…

Fact #1 : This Video Is Real

This video is genuine, and was recorded by Nikki Schoerie on 11 April 2020, at the Big W store in Lilydale, northeast of Melbourne, Australia.

Fact #2 : The Argument Was Over Baby Formula

According to eyewitness reports, the couple wearing face masks were trying to buy four tins of baby formula when they were stopped, because they were spotted buying the baby formula earlier the same day.

The man refused, and started arguing with the staff. Stephanie Groen (with the green sweater) asked him to put the tins back because he was holding up the line.

When he started yelling and swearing at her, the older man (see in the video above) intervened. He also said that he saw the couple purchasing baby formula at a local chemist earlier.

That set off the younger man who threw the tins into Stephanie’s trolley, ripped off his face mask and tried to strike the older man.

Fact #3 : There Was No Racism

Big W and major Australian supermarkets have a two-tin limit to prevent Chinese daigou shoppers from buying baby formula in bulk to resell for a profit in China.

That is not a racist policy, because the limit applied to everyone – Australians and non-Australians alike.

Verdict : Yet Another Example Of Daigou!

Just to be clear, Chinese shoppers are not being stopped from entering or shopping at any supermarket in Australia. These isn’t even a case of COVID-19 racism.

This is just another example of daigou shoppers trying to bypass limits set explicitly to prevent bulk buying of baby formula.

Daigou shoppers have long been a problem, not only in Australia but also in Hong Kong and Macau, which are right next door to China!

In fact, Hong Kong authorities set a limit on how much baby formula any person can bring when they exit Hong Kong!

Fact Check : Empty Hospitals Prove COVID-19 Is Fake?

People are sharing #FilmYourHospital photos and videos of empty hospitals as evidence that COVID-19 doesn’t really exist, or that it’s overly hyped.

Find out if it’s true that hospitals are empty, and if that means that COVID-19 is a fake crisis!

#FilmYourHospital : Are Hospitals Empty?

On Twitter and YouTube, people are sharing videos and pictures of what appears to be empty (or nearly empty) hospital parking lots, entrances and waiting areas with the hashtag #FilmYourHospital.

They are also sharing stories of how healthcare workers are being furloughed or laid off, which would not make sense if there are so many people sick with COVID-19.

This appears to be an almost exclusively American obsession. Practically every post we have seen so far are of American hospitals, with their posters claiming that their videos and photos prove that COVID-19 crisis is a hoax.

Some are calling for the arrest of Dr. Anthony Fauci (#ArrestFauci) and bizarrely, Bill Gates (#ArrestGates), while others want to do away with the lockdown / 5G towers (take your pick).

Fact Check : Empty Hospitals Prove COVID-19 Is Fake?

Okay, let’s take a look at the facts and see how they line up with what have been posted so far…

Some Hospitals Are Empty : True

It is true that some hospitals are empty, or in the process of being emptied. But this is simply part of their preparations for an expected influx of COVID-19 patients.

COVID-19 is highly-infectious, and thus, COVID-19 patients cannot be kept in the same ward as other patients. They need to be isolated from other patients.

Therefore, hospitals need to clear out dedicated floors or wards to cater to COVID-19 patients, when they are admitted.

Healthcare Workers Are Being Laid Off : True

It is also true that healthcare workers are being fired or furloughed (placed on leave of absence). This is because hospitals have cancelled or delayed elective surgeries and procedures, greatly reducing their income.

As hospitals in the US are profit-based, the loss of income from these procedures mean they need to quickly furlough or fire employees who are not directly involved in the treatment of COVID-19 patients.

The Washington Post had earlier reported that hospitals were firing or furloughing staff :

  • Bon Secours Mercy Health (51 hospitals) furloughed 700 workers
  • Ballad Health (21 hospitals) furloughed 1300 employees, and cut pay for executives.
  • Children’s National Hospital in DC forced employees to take one week off.

Hospital executives also claim that these furloughs will reduce the number of people in their hospitals and help to reduce the spread.

Hospital Parking Lots Are Empty : True

Videos and photos of empty hospital parking lots are merely evidence that hospitals are doing their part to stop the spread of COVID-19 by :

  • cancelling or delaying non-critical surgeries and procedures
  • discouraging people (including visitors) from coming to hospitals

We need to remember that COVID-19 is highly-infectious, and can spread through people who look perfectly healthy. Hence, no one should be near or inside a hospital, unless they are sick and need medical attention.

One of the videos even shows a security officer asking a conspiracy theorist to leave. To idea isn’t to prevent people from taking photos or videos of an empty parking lot. It’s to enforce social distancing rules and prevent people from getting infected.

Some Hospital Tents Are Empty : True

It is also true that tents outside of some hospitals are empty. That’s because they are being used for triage, not a buffet.

People coming to hospitals will be assessed at these triage tents, and then moved inside to either a hot / red zone (if they are deemed to have COVID-19 symptoms), or a safe / green zone (if they have non-COVID medical issues).

But in most cases, these tents are fully covered up for privacy, so there’s no way to know how many people are inside.

The large size of these tents may also lead people to expect a veritable queue of sick people. Large tents are necessary to ensure that every person is seated at least six feet (2 meters) apart.

Many states also have stay-at-home or shelter-in-place lockdown orders. So smart people who do not want to get infected by COVID-19, will stay at home and not go to the hospital unless they really need urgent medical attention.

Hospital Waiting Rooms Are Empty : True

Yes, it is also true that hospital waiting rooms are empty, but not because there are no COVID-19 patients.

Because COVID-19 is highly-infectious, hospitals will NEVER leave patients who are potentially infected (and therefore contagious) to sit in a general waiting room. They will be isolated in a separate section of the hospital.

Conspiracy theorists who fake injuries to get into a hospital will be shunted to the usual common waiting room instead.

And this common waiting room will be empty, partly because elective surgeries and procedures have been cancelled or delayed, and partly because lockdown orders mean that people are staying home.

Hospitals Do NOT Allow Photos / Videos To Be Taken : True

Privacy laws, including HIPAA in the United States, require hospital staff to stop members of the public from taking photos or videos of patients.

Such laws actually apply to the hospital staff as well, not just members of the public. NO ONE has the right to take photos or videos of a patient without his/her consent.

Empty Hospitals Do NOT Prove COVID-19 Is Fake : Conclusion

Now, everything people have posted so far are true – there are empty parking lots and waiting rooms in hospitals. But that doesn’t mean that healthcare workers or authorities have been lying about being overwhelmed by COVID-19.

COVID-19 is a PANDEMIC, which means it has spread globally. For this to be a conspiracy, it would require herculean coordination amongst the 210 countries currently affected by COVID-19.

Hundreds of thousands of people would have to conspire to lie to the entire world, and for what? To deprive you of your freedom? To build more 5G towers? To force you to get vaccinated?

Think about that for a moment. And if you still believe that COVID-19 is a lie and a conspiracy, please make that decision for yourself. Suicide is meant to be a solitary hobby.

Oh, one more thing. Some people who are fanning this #FilmYourHospital hype are doing it for the money. One YouTuber said it clearly in a comment “The motive here is to get my videos promoted, get more subscribers and make a little extra cash…

Fact Check : Funeral Home Accidentally Cremated Employee!

According to the Weekly Inquirer, a New York funeral company accidentally cremated one of their employees who fell asleep after working for 16 hours straight.

Find out whether this poor, overworked bloke really got cremated, and what the facts really are!

Claim : Funeral Home Accidentally Cremated Employee!

The Weekly Inquirer posted this article on 11 April 2020 :

NEW YORK, NY: EXHAUSTED FUNERAL HOME EMPLOYEE CREMATED BY MISTAKE WHILE TAKING A NAP

An employee of a New York, Funeral & Cremation Service died yesterday, after being accidentally cremated by one of his coworkers.

According to the Police, 48-year old Michael Jones decided to take a nap one a stretcher after working for sixteen hours straight to the recent influx of dead bodies.

While he was sleeping, another employee mistook him for the corpse of a 52-year old person who died from respiratory issues and moved him to the crematory.

Before anyone could notice the mistake, he had already been exposed to temperatures ranging between 1400 to 1800 degrees Fahrenheit and reduced to ashes.

Jenna Anderson, one of Mr Jones’s coworkers, says she heard him scream for about 15 seconds after the crematory was activated.

“At first, we didn’t understand where the sound was coming from. When we realized what was happening, it was too late. We shut down the heating system, but he was already dead.”

Ms. Anderson claims that the young coworker who caused the accident was a new employee, and had forgotten to check for the toe tag to make sure he had the right body.

Jenna Anderson says she heard the victim scream in agony as the crematory was reducing him to ashes.

The police has opened an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding Mr Jone’s death.

Investigators have not ruled out the possibility of filing criminal charges against the employee who caused his death.

The young man could possibly be accused of criminal negligence causing death.

Our Verdict : Fake Story By Satire Website

For the details why this is fake, please continue below….

Funeral Home Accidentally Cremated Employee : Hoax Debunked!

Okay, let’s start with why this is fake news, and move on to what the facts are…

Weekly Inquirer Is A Satire Website

Weekly Inquirer calls itself a satire website, but it is really a FAKE STORY website, because it does its very best to conceal that it is a satire website.

It only has this tiny disclaimer at the bottom of every page, which we have to blow up to show you :

They also buried the nature of their website in their privacy policy, hiding in the second paragraph that :

Information contained in this website is for information and entertainment purposes only.

New York is Burying The Dead On Hart Island

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, New York is burying any dead not claimed within two weeks on Hart Island, at least temporarily.

The Story Isn’t Even Logical

Never mind the bad grammar and bad spelling peppering the story, the story isn’t even logical.

  1. Even the most tired person would wake up if someone wheels the stretcher, and definitely when he’s being lifted and placed into the combustion chamber.
  2. Even the stupidest of employees can see that the sleeping employee is dressed differently, even in a uniform?
  3. No one gets cremated on a slab. The dead body is first placed in a casket before being cremated.
  4. The cremation process takes a long time – about 1-2 hours – to reduce a body into ashes. Yet the story claimed that he was reduced to ashes even though they turned it off, after hearing him scream?

The story is so full of holes, you can use it to strain your pasta…

McDonald’s Malaysia Voucher Giveaway : Just Another Scam!

This McDonald’s Malaysia voucher giveaway is just another scam, which the real McDonald’s Malaysia confirmed earlier :

This is what we recommend you do :

  1. Share this article with your family and friends, so they won’t get cheated.
  2. Click on the advertisement as many times as you can. This will help use up the ad budget they set for the ad campaign.
  3. Report the fake Google survey, by clicking here, and selecting Spam, malware or “phishing” (fake login)
  4. Report the advertisement, by clicking on the menu icon on the upper right side, and selecting Report ad.

McDonald’s Malaysia Voucher Giveaway : Exposing The Scam!

Okay, for those of you who are interested to know the details of this scam, here are the facts…

Fake McDonald’s Malaysia Facebook Page

If you go to its Facebook page, you will note that the name is off – McDonald’s_MY. Also, the page appears to have been created on 7 April 2020.

Compare that to the real McDonald’s Malaysia page (@My.McDonalds) which has a blue verified check mark. You can also see that over 80 million people liked this page.

Fake McDonald’s Malaysia Survey

The survey isn’t the scam. It is the decoy. It’s to trick you into thinking this is a real offer.

The bad grammar should be an obvious clue, as well as using mcd as a short form for McDonald’s Malaysia.

After you click Submit, you will be taken to this page, where you will be redirected to an outside website, where the real scam lies.

The bit.ly link is a shortened link that leaks you to a my.12xlwin7.net page. This is when the real scam starts…

If you proceed, you will be submitting your details to the scammers and their sponsors, which appears to include UNICEF, Your Voice Malaysia and Job-Central Malaysia.

You will also be asked many questions, including your telephone number, your location, and whether you have credit card, etc.

They will also try to trick you into allowing myxlwin to send you push notifications, presumably advertisements from their sponsors.

And after answering many questions, you will be asked to click on four ad banners, in order to get a chance to win a McDonald’s voucher.

As you can probably tell by now, this is just a scam to

  • obtain your personal details, with your permission to give them to their sponsors,
  • conduct a survey for their sponsors,
  • receive your permission to send you more advertisements,
  • trick you into clicking on their sponsor’s advertisements.

Ultimately, you are not going to get any voucher. So don’t waste your time. THIS IS A SCAM, PERIOD!

AMD GPU Source Code Hack : What’s Going On?

In case you missed it, AMD suffered a massive cybersecurity breach, losing the source codes to their Navi 10, Navi 21 and Arden GPUs in a hack!

Here is a summary of how the hack went down, and what this could mean for AMD and their partners…

AMD GPU Source Code Hack : A Quick Summary

A hacker managed to get her hands on AMD source codes for current and future graphics products, and has apparently tried to blackmail AMD.

After that failed, she leaked some of the source codes on Github, and threatened to release everything if she does not find a buyer.

The hacker recently leaked some of the source codes on Github, which was quickly removed after AMD issued a DMCA notice.

She has treated to release all of the stolen source codes, if she does not find a buyer for them,.

AMD GPU Source Code Hack : The Timeline

November 2019

A hacker called Palesa hacked into an unprotected computer / server, where she found and downloaded AMD source codes, which were determined to be for :

  • the current Navi 10 GPU (based on RDNA)
  • the upcoming Navi 21 GPU (based on RDNA 2), as well as
  • the Arden SoC for the Microsoft Xbox Series X console.

The source code was unexpectedly achieved from an unprotected computer / server through some exploits.

I later found out about the files inside it. They weren’t even protected properly or even encrypted with anything which is just sad.

Palesa told TorrentFreak that she valued the source codes at $100 million, but did not reveal how she came to that mind-blowing valuation.

Credit : WCCFTech

December 2019

Palesa contacted AMD, allegedly to blackmail them into paying for the return of the source codes.

Mid-March 2020

Rumours started circulating that a hacker obtained the source codes for Navi 10, Navi 21 and Arden.

24 March 2020

AMD discovered that some of the source codes were uploaded to the new xxXsoullessXxx repository on Github, as the project called AMD-navi-GPU-HARDWARE-SOURCE.

They issued a DCMA notice, notifying Github that, “This repository contains intellectual property owned by and stolen from AMD.” and that “The original IP is held privately and was stolen from AMD.

Github took down that repository, as well as four other repositories that AMD later identified as forks :

25 March 2020

When contacted by TorrentFreak, Palesa said that she will leak all of the stolen source codes if she does not get a buyer for them :

If I get no buyer I will just leak everything.

AMD issued this statement on the theft of their graphics IP :

At AMD, data security and the protection of our intellectual property are a priority. In December 2019, we were contacted by someone who claimed to have test files related to a subset of our current and future graphics products, some of which were recently posted online, but have since been taken down.

While we are aware the perpetrator has additional files that have not been made public, we believe the stolen graphics IP is not core to the competitiveness or security of our graphics products. We are not aware of the perpetrator possessing any other AMD IP.

We are working closely with law enforcement officials and other experts as a part of an ongoing criminal investigation.

AMD GPU Source Code Hack : What Was Leaked So Far?

According to WCCFTech who spoke to people who have vast experience with Verilog, and viewed those source codes, this was what was leaked so far :

  • Partial Verilog files that are typically used in the construction of processors.
  • The Verilog files in question represent a single and isolated function(s) on the GPU – NOT the whole/actual GPU blueprint.
  • Based on the leaker’s screenshots, the files not yet leaked are more of the same and also nowhere close to being a complete “source code”.
  • These Verilog files are built on a proprietary schematic that is only compatible with AMD’s internal design language (in other words, these are going to be close to useless to a third party).

AMD GPU Source Code Hack : The Implications

From what those experts told WCCFTech, the leaked source codes :

  • cannot be used to design or reverse engineer any of the three GPUs.
  • cannot be used to easily determine product specifications
  • cannot be used to bypass security features on AMD GPUs, although they may reveal vulnerabilities that can be exploited
  • does not contain any “crown jewel” IP

That said, their opinions are based on what was leaked so far. It is possible that Palesa may have at lot more that she has not revealed.

But considering the fact that she took the step of leaking some source code, they are likely not useful or important enough to be worth the trouble, especially now that a criminal investigation is underway.

What this leak has likely achieved is put a target on Palesa’s back, cause some embarrassment to AMD, and force them to relook at their cybersecurity measures and protocols.

Fact Check : Thai King Death From COVID-19 (Updated!)

A reputable-looking website just reported on the death of the King of Thailand, Maha Vajiralongkorn, from COVID-19 in Germany.

This is yet another Internet hoax, and we will show you how you too can fact-check these sensational stories for yourself!

Thai King Death From COVID-19 In Germany?

A reputable-looking The StuffPost website posted this shocking news :

Thai King dies of coronavirus while in self-isolation in Germany

The King of Thailand, Maha Vajiralongkorn, has died of coronavirus in Germany a few days after testing positive for the deadly disease.

King Maha Vajiralongkorn had gone into self-isolation inside a luxury hotel in Germany. He has booked the entire hotel for himself… and 20 female concubines.

Here is a screenshot of the page, with a HOAX overlay to avoid misuse.

Thai King Death From COVID-19 : Hoax Exposed!

The purported death of Thai King Maha Vajiralongkorn is FALSE… and we know this because…

Not One News Agency Reported His Death

A quick check would reveal that no new agencies have reported the King’s death, only this one website.

That should tell you that this isn’t true. A death of a monarch is major news that would have been published by news agencies, large and small, all over the world.

The StuffPost Is NYCINews.com?

The website is called The StuffPost, but did you notice that it is using the NYCINews.com domain?

No legitimate website would do that, because it makes it difficult for people to locate them.

If you see a website use a vastly different domain from its name, it’s almost certainly a fake site. Nelassa.com is another example.

The StuffPost Is A WordPress Theme

The StuffPost is actually a WordPress theme that ANYONE can purchase. The website creator did not even change the default logo!

NYCINews Has Only 8 Articles???

The NYCINews website looks legit, but if you just check Latest News, you will see that there are only EIGHT articles in the entire website!

The other articles appear to be copied from legitimate websites. Only the article on the Thai King Maha Vajiralongkorn appears to be fake.

NYCINews Was Only Registered In March 2020!

Checking the NYCINews.com domain registration revealed that this domain was only registered on 11 March 2020. How legit…

NYCINews Owner Identities Concealed Too!

Also highly suspicious was the concealment of the domain owner’s details. This is usually done by those who plan to operate less than savoury websites, or those who expect to get sued for libel, etc.

Thai King Maha Vajiralongkorn Is Back In Bangkok

BILD reported that the Thai King Maha Vajiralongkorn flew back to Bangkok on 3 April 2020.

In this photo shared by Thailand’s PostToday, the King is seen getting briefed on the government’s measures against COVID-19 on 6 April 2020. Thanks for the tip, Paphon Sri-Ornlar!

Credit : PostToday

As you can see, the Thai King Maha Vajiralongkorn is very much alive and well!

Thai King Death From COVID-19 : FAKE NEWS!

As you can tell by now, the report of the Thai king’s death that was posted by the fake The StuffPost / NYCINews website is FALSE.

Since that is the only fake article on the website, we believe the website was created specifically to embarrass the Thai King, by attracting the world’s attention to the fact that he fled to a resort in Germany to avoid COVID-19.

Bantuan Prihatin Nasional (BPN) SMS Scam

Malaysians are, no doubt, eager to get the BPN cash assistance, which is why the website for checking their status was inaccessible for days.

So the government announced that they would inform those who qualify by SMS messages instead.

Scammers quickly latched onto that idea, and started sending out these FAKE SMS messages, asking for banking information to send the cash assistance.

Check out these examples, and note how they would ask for your banking login and password!

Bantuan Prihatin Nasional (BPN) SMS Scam Debunked!

Never Give Anyone Your Login ID Or Password!

First of all, always remember the golden rule of online safety :

NEVER GIVE ANYONE YOUR LOGIN ID / PASSWORD / TAC NUMBER!

No legitimate organisation, not even your bank or the government, will EVER ask you for your login ID or password or TAC number.

If you ever receive a message, even from what appears to be a trustworthy friend or a representative of the government or your bank, asking for any of those information, JUST IGNORE IT.

The Official SMS Is Only A Notification

The Malaysian government will only send an SMS message to those who qualify for Bantuan Prihatin Nasional (BPN).

If you do not meet the requirements, you will never receive such a notification. This is what the official BPN SMS looks like.

It states very clearly that :

You qualify to receive the Bantuan Prihatin Nasional (BPN). Payments will be made on April and May 2020. You do not need to check your status or make any applications.

Only Two Valid SMS Numbers

LHDN issued a notification that they will only use two SMS numbers 62000 and 63833 to send you BPN messages.

If you receive BPN-related messages from any other number, please IGNORE THEM.

The Money Goes Directly Into Your Bank Account

If you have already registered your bank account with the Malaysian Income Tax Department (LHDN), or the government’s BSP (Bantuan Sara Hidup) program, the money will go directly into your bank account.

You do not have to contact LHDN or anyone. They will certainly not ask you for your bank login details. Easy peasy!

Cyber Crime WhatsApp Warning Hoax Debunked!

The Cyber Crime hoax on WhatsApp is circulating, warning people that they are being monitored by the government.

Well, not to worry – unless you are living in China – this is yet another Internet hoax. Here is why we know that…

The Cyber Crime WhatsApp Warning Hoax

This is the Cyber Crime warning hoax that has been circulating on WhatsApp :

From tomorrow onwards there are new communication regulations.

All calls are recorded

All phone call recordings saved

WhatsApp is monitored

Twitter is monitored

Facebook is monitored

All social media and forums are monitored

Inform those who do not know.

Your devices are connected to ministry systems.

Take care not to send unnecessary messages

Inform your children, Relatives and friends about this to take care

Don’t forward any posts or videos etc., you receive regarding politics/present situation about Government/PM etc.

Police have put out a notification termed ..Cyber Crime … and action will be taken…just don’t delete …

Inform your friends & others too.

Writing or forwarding any msg on any political & religious debate is an offence now….arrest without warrant…

This is very serious, plz let it be known to all our groups and individual members as group admin can b in deep trouble.

Take care not to send unnecessary messages.
Inform everyone about this to take care.

Please share it; it’s very much true. Groups please be careful.

Note that it’s generic enough that it can apply to almost any government in the world.

The Cyber Crime WhatsApp Warning Hoax Debunked!

And here is why this is nothing more than yet another Internet hoax :

Only China Is Capable Of Doing This

The only country that has accomplished most of what was shared above is China, but it took them decades to erect the Great Firewall of China.

It’s not just the massive infrastructure that needs to be created, it also requires legislation to be enacted, and considerable manpower and resources to maintain such a system.

That’s why China is leaning heavily on AI and cloud computing capabilities to automatically and quickly censor information deemed “sensitive”.

However, no other country has come close to spending the money and resources on a similar scale, although Cuba, Vietnam, Zimbabwe and Belarus have imported some surveillance technology from China.

WhatsApp, Instagram + Facebook Messenger Have End-to-End Encryption

All three Facebook-owned apps are now running on the same common platform, which provides end-to-end encryption.

End-to-end encryption protects messages as they travel through the Internet, and specifically prevents anyone (bad guys or your friendly government censor) from snooping into your conversation.

That is also why all three are banned in China…

The Police Cannot Enact Laws

There are cybercrime laws in most, if not every, country in the world. But they are all enacted by legislative bodies of some sort, not the police.

The police is the executive arm in a country, empowered to enforce the law. They do not have the power to create a law, and then act on it.

Even The Government Has Debunked It!

Just in case you are still not convinced, even the Malaysian government issued a fact check on this hoax, debunking it as fake news :

Basically, it states “The Ministry of Home Affairs has NEVER recorded telephone calls or monitored social media in this country“.

Bitcoin Revolution : Fake Celebrity Endorsements Exposed!

You may have seen celebrities endorsements of Bitcoin Revolution circulating on Facebook and Instagram, but they are all FAKE.

Find out why there are so many fake celebrity endorsements of Bitcoin Revolution, and how they are doing it!

Bitcoin Revolution : What Is It?

Bitcoin Revolution is an online “investment” scheme that people have been warning against for many years now.

They are notorious for using fake celebrity endorsements on Facebook, Instagram, etc to scam gullible people.

They have been caught using people like Kate Winslet and Hugh Jackman to former Singaporean prime minister Goh Choo Tong.

The Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) issued no less than two warnings about Bitcoin Revolution in January 2019 and August 2019.

Bitcoin Revolution is likely to be an international “get-rich-quick” cryptocurrency scam.

The public should therefore refrain from undertaking any business or transactions with the entity operating under the name of Bitcoin Revolution.

Bitcoin Revolution : Fake Celebrity Endorsements!

Take a look at just three examples of fake celebrity endorsements of Bitcoin Revolution, courtesy of Cryptovibes :

Bitcoin Revolution : Fake Lim Guan Eng Endorsement!

Here in Malaysia, a fake Malaysiakini article was being promoted on Facebook, with the title Lim’s Biggest Confession SHOCKED EVERYONE…

The article, designed to look like a genuine Malaysiakini article, claimed that Malaysian politician Lim Guan Eng told Nabil Ahmad on the TV show MeleTOP how he made his fortune using the Bitcoin Revolution platform.

It even claimed that Lim Guan Eng showed off how much he made, before specifically endorsing Bitcoin Revolution.

All that is FAKE. There is no such segment on MeleTOP, and no such article on Malaysiakini. Lim Guan Eng never made such an endorsement.

Fake Lim Guan Eng Endorsement Exposed!

How do we know this is yet another fake celebrity endorsement?

Reason #1 : That Is A Fake Art News Page

The people behind this fake endorsement created a fake Facebook page on 2 March 2020 to masquerade as the ARTnews magazine, whose genuine Facebook page was created on 13 February 2009.

Reason #2 : The Fake Article Is Hosted On Nelassa.com

The Facebook advertisement was designed to look like it will lead you to Malaysiakini, but it actually leads to a hidden page on Nelassa.com.

Nelassa itself masquerades as a new website on cell and plant biology, with articles going back to December 2019. But a quick check shows that the domain was only registered in February 2020.

Even more interestingly, the owner of this domain blocked access to his/her name and contact – always a suspicious sign!

Reason #3 : The Links Lead To SecuredSheep.com

The fake article of Lim Guan Eng endorsing Bitcoin Revolution is replete with links to Bitcoin Revolution. But if you inspect the links, they all lead to SecuredSheep.com.

Interestingly, SecuredSheep.com is also protected by the same company – Domain Protection Services, Inc.

Please AVOID Bitcoin Revolution

Let us repeat what the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) warned in January 2019 and August 2019.

Bitcoin Revolution is likely to be an international “get-rich-quick” cryptocurrency scam.

The public should therefore refrain from undertaking any business or transactions with the entity operating under the name of Bitcoin Revolution.

COVID-19 Email Scams + Malware Are Spreading!

As the COVID-19 coronavirus spreads across the world, so are COVID-19 email scams and malware!

Tatyana Shcherbakova tells us what she and her team discovered!

Warning : COVID-19 Email Scams Are Spreading!

As the COVID-19 coronavirus spreads, fake information is being created and distributed at a very high rate, confusing people all over the world.

Cybercriminals are taking advantage of the confusion, creating various email scams, with some realistic ones pretending to be from the WHO.

Tatyana Shcherbakova, a senior web content analyst, details how her team looked at the COVID-19 email scams, and came across the realistic ones from WHO…

WHO Is Warning You? These Are COVID-19 Email Scams!

At first, we found emails offering products such as masks, and then the topic became more commonly used in Nigerian spam emails. We also found scam emails with phishing links and malicious attachments.

One of the latest spam campaigns mimics the World Health Organization (WHO), showing how cybercriminals recognize and are capitalizing on the important role WHO has in providing trustworthy information about the coronavirus.

Users receive emails allegedly from WHO, which supposedly offer information about safety measures to be taken to avoid a COVID-19 infection.

Once a user clicks on the link embedded in the email, they are redirected to a phishing website and prompted to share personal information, which ends up in the hands of cybercriminals.

This scam looks more realistic than other examples we have seen lately, such as alleged donations from the World Bank or IMF for anyone who needs a loan.

In order to stay safe, we advise users to carefully study the content of the emails they receive and only trust reliable sources.

If you are promised a vaccine for the virus or some magic protective measures, or content of the email is making you worried, it has most likely come from cybercriminals.

This is especially true if the sender suggests clicking on a link and sharing your personal data or opening an attachment.

You should not donate any real money or trust information with promises to help those affected by the virus, even if the email comes from someone who introduces themselves as an employee of a trusted organization.

Finally, double check the email address, as scammers often use free email services or addresses that have no relation to the organization mentioned.

Malware Masked As COVID-19 Coronavirus Documents!

They also found malicious files disguised as documents related to the COVID-19 coronavirus. The malicious files were masked under the guise of pdf, mp4 and docx files about the COVID-19 coronavirus.

The names of files imply that they contain video instructions on how to protect yourself from the virus, updates on the threat and even virus detection procedures, which is not actually the case.

In fact, these files contained a range of threats, from Trojans to worms, which are capable of destroying, blocking, modifying or copying data, as well as interfering with the operation of computers or computer networks.

Some malicious files are spread via email. For example, an Excel file distributed via email under the guise of a list of coronavirus victims allegedly sent from the World Health Organization (WHO) was in fact a Trojan-Downloader, which secretly downloads and installs another malicious file.

This second file was a Trojan-Spy designed to gather various data, including passwords, from the infected device and send it to the attacker.

COVID-19 Email Scams + Malware : How To Avoid

As governments and businesses are forced by the COVID-19 coronavirus to encourage their employees to work from home, it is critical that they employ these cybersecurity practices to reduce risk of falling for phishing attacks, or malware :

  • Provide a VPN for staff to connect securely to the corporate network
  • All corporate devices – including mobiles and laptops – should be protected with security software
  • The operating system and apps should be updated with the latest patches
  • Restrict the access rights of people connecting to the corporate network
  • Ensure that the staff are aware of the dangers of unsolicited messages

ASEAN Keeps 5G Ecosystem Door Open For HUAWEI!

ASEAN plans to keep the 5G ecosystem open to HUAWEI, to ensure a level playing field as ASEAN countries build up their 5G infrastructure. Here are the details!

ASEAN Keeps 5G Ecosystem Door Open For HUAWEI

During a courtesy visit to the HUAWEI Cyber Security Transparency Center in Brussels, Belgium, the Deputy Secretary-General for the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), Dr. Aladdin D. Rillo said that ASEAN has to ensure a level-playing field in developing their 5G ecosystem.

“We’re very much committed to ensuring that market players like Huawei are engaged, because these private sector players are very important in terms of the ability to build the right infrastructure and develop the ecosystem,” said the Deputy Secretary-General.

“The world is very inter-connected and integrated. We have to help each other and work together towards our common goals. Any distraction from that will not be beneficial to any player,” he added.

As the digital sector in ASEAN countries is booming, cybersecurity will play a critical role in digital transformation in ASEAN, particularly in accelerating the development of 5G, AI and IoT.

“We are impressed on how Huawei carried out cyber security approaches as explained during our visit to Huawei Cyber Security Transparency Center. This further convinced us why cyber security measures are needed to optimize security in the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 in ASEAN,” Dr. Rillo said.

“Therefore, we continue to encourage ASEAN’s countries to strengthen the cooperation, and we also need support from private players that have proven capable of delivering reliable and leading technologies, such as Huawei, especially in building innovation-friendly ecosystem, and to answer relevant issues related to big data, data privacy and cybersecurity,” he added.

ASEAN 5G Development

The ASEAN region is currently experiencing rapid growth of the Internet, digital, social media and mobile activities with 65% Internet penetration and over 400 million Internet users.

The ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) therefore expressed its commitment to encourage member countries to accelerate their digital transformation in various sectors, to realise a digital intelligent world by 2030.

“There has been a strong emphasis on the digitalization in ASEAN. To do that, we need to have the right infrastructure,” said Dr. Rillo. “This year, under the chairmanship of Vietnam, we’re looking specifically at 5G, which is an important foundation for us to support digital transformation and market integration.”

“With ASEAN’s digital economy has surged to USD100 billion for the first time in 2019 and is expected to grow beyond USD300 billion by 2025, for governments, business, and society, digital transformation is no longer just an option, but a necessity for economic and business empowerment,” he added.

Skull Breaker Challenge Continues To Injure Children!

The damage caused by the Skull Breaker challenge on TikTok and other social media platforms cannot be understated. Even after TikTok was forced to ban those videos, the prank continues to injure children…

It did not help that many people thought it was a hoax, or dismissed it as a childish prank. So we decided to compile this list of injuries that have been confirmed to be attributed to the Skull Breaker challenge.

Please make sure you share this list out, so that parents and schools can warn children about the dangers and consequences of the Skull Breaker challenge.

The Skull Breaker Challenge Explained!

The tripping jump challenge appears to have originated in South America as the Skull Breaker Challenge on TikTok, so you may hear it referred to as Rompcráneos or Rasteira in Spanish.

Many people pooh-poohed the initial reports of the Skull Breaker TikTok challenge, claiming that it was a hoax.  But it quickly spread across the world, as kids and even adults try to record themselves pranking others with it.

The challenge is simple in concept, but takes two to play it and an innocent victim to trick.

  1. Trick the victim into thinking that the two of you want to record a slow-motion video of all three jumping.
  2. Set up a camera to record the action, or have someone record it for you.
  3. As the victim jumps, you both kick his / her legs, so the victim falls flat while you guys laugh.
  4. Share the video on TikTok for likes!

Although at least one girl died from the challenge, it took months of public outrage before TikTok agreed to remove all such videos from their platform.

Skull Breaker TikTok Challenge Continues To Injure Children!

While TikTok may have agreed to remove Skull Breaker videos when they find them, children (well, bullies) are apparently continuing with the challenge!

Either TikTok has not been particularly diligent, or the pranksters and influencers have given the challenge a new name. But the fact still remains – children continue to be victimised and injured by this stupid challenge.

We are also greatly concerned by some people who insist that this is an Internet hoax, or a mass hysteria event; and that parents and schools should not scare children with such silly tales.

Therefore, we decided to compile this public record of the injuries caused by the Skull Breaker TikTok challenge, so that there can be no doubt that the Skull Breaker TikTok challenge is REAL, and it continues to injure children.

11 November 2019 : Emanuela Medeiros (Killed)

16-year old Emanuela died after hitting her head on the ground during the Skull Breaker challenge (known then as the rasteira challenge) at the Antônio Fagundes Municipal School in Mossoró, Brazil.

Circa January 2020 : Lilian Calabianqui (NA)

Lilian was tricked into performing the Skull Breaker challenge by her own sons, the social media influencers who call themselves Irmaos Fuinha.

They were the ones who popularised the Skull Breaker challenge on TikTok, and arguably made it go global.

In their video, it was obvious that they knew about the danger and caught their mother before she hit her head on the floor.

Unfortunately, they did not warn the millions of young fans about that – and so, it set off a chain of injuries across the globe.

Late January 2020 : Marc and Stacy Shenker’s Son (Physical Therapy)

Marc and Stacy Shenker’s 13-year old son suffered a concussion in the Skull Breaker Challenge at the Cherry Hill middle school in New Jersey.

A month after that incident, he still complains of lethargy and headaches, and is on academic restriction. He is also starting physical therapy.

4 February 2020 : Unknown Student (NA)

The video of the Skull Breaker TikTok challenge being performed on a student at the Santo Tomas de Aquino School in Caracas, Venezuela went viral.

The very next day, the Chacao municipality posted this on Instagram, warning against the challenge :

4 February 2020 : Unknown Student (NA)

A 16-year old girl was bullied by two students into performing the challenge at the South Dade Senior High School :

According to the victim, two other students at the school asked her to jump as high as she could. One of the students jumped with her to see who could jump higher while the other stood off to the side.

“They kept asking me until I said yes,” the 16-year-old freshman said.

When the victim jumped, the two students swept her legs out from under her, causing her to fall backwards and hurt her neck and head.

“I jumped really high and I remember them kicking me off my feet and I fell on my head,” she said.

The two perpetrators including the student filming the challenge were disciplined, but the victim had to transfer to another school, and is currently being treated for her injuries.

5 February 2020 : Justin Hodson (Hospitalised)

Justin was tricked into the Skull Breaker TikTok challenge, and hit his back and head. He lost consciousness trying to get up, and fell forward, injuring his face as well.

He was hospitalised with a head injury, stitches to his face, severe cuts inside his mouth and two front teeth injured.

Early February 2020 : Olivia Ross

In Portland, Oregon, Olivia Ross was tricked into performing the Skull Breaker challenge by two upperclassmen seniors at the Mountainside High School. She blacked out and had a headache after hitting her head :

“These seniors asked me if I would jump for their TikTok video. I remember like blacking out for a second and I started to get like an instant pressure headache,” Ross said.

You can clearly see from the screenshot below, that the two school seniors then posted the video on TikTok.

Olivia’s mother, Lindsay Zobrist, pointed out that anyone who types “Skull Breaking Challenge” or “Jumping Prank” or “Jump Trip” into TikTok will see hundreds of such videos.

11 February 2020 : Parker Smith (Broken Arm)

12-year old Parker Smith from Alabama broke both the radius and ulna bones of his right arm, after being tricked into participating in the Skull Breaker Challenge.

14 February 2020 : Aubrey Ortiz (Hospitalised)

12-year old Aubrey Ortiz from the South Brook Middle School was tricked by a boy and a girl at her school, who asked her to “learn a dance”.

“They kicked my legs over, and (one girl) grabbed my legs and slammed them to the ground,” Ortiz said. “I went numb and couldn’t do anything. I struggled getting up.”

23 February 2020 : Kathleen DeJesus (Hospitalised)

13-year old Kathleen DeJesus was targeted at the Lawrence Massachusetts Middle School, and spent two days in the hospital for a severe concussion :

“I was screaming that I needed an ambulance,” said Kathleen. “I was thinking like ‘Oh my God I’m going to lose my life over this game.’ I should have never done it.”

25 February 2020 : Ke’Avion Hearn (Hospitalised)

Ke’Avion Hearn – a brain cancer survivor – was tricked into performing the challenge, and knocked unconscious by his classmates at the Southeast Arkansas Preparatory High School :

“They said all you go to do is jump,” Ke’Avion recalled. He says he never knew what those classmates were about to do to him.

“I jumped, they kind of kicked me out under my legs so I can’t land,” he said. “All I remember is being on the floor.”

His mother, Kimberly Hearn said, “He doesn’t deserve that, no child deserves that. You made him fall on his head. That’s got to be so cruel, and you found it to be so funny.”

Hearn pointed out that getting hit on the head was even more dangerous for Ke’Avion, who underwent multiple surgeries and chemotherapy a few years ago for a large brain tumour.

TikTok Finally Bans Deadly Skull Breaker Challenge!

TikTok finally addressed the deadly Tripping Jump / Skull Breaker Challenge controversy, by banning those videos!

Find out what the Tripping Jump / Skull Breaker Challenge is all about, and why TikTok finally banned those videos!

Tripping Jump / Skull Breaker Challenge Explained!

The tripping jump challenge appears to have originated in South America as the Skullbreaker Challenge on TikTok, so you may hear it referred to as Rompcráneos or Rasteira in Spanish.

It quickly spread across the world, as kids and even adults try to record themselves pranking others with it on TikTok!

Funny, right? Yeah, if you are an asshole… because this challenge is known as the Skull Breaker Challenge for a reason!

Tripping Jump / Skull Breaker Challenge Danger!

Take a look at this video which showcases five different tripping jump / skull breaker challenge videos. Watch how ALL five victims hit the back of their heads, and at least two of them are knocked unconscious!

The Austin ISD Police Department opened an investigation into one case involving a student at the Austin Independent School District, who sustained head injuries after being tricked into the skull breaker challenge at the school library.

In Florida, parents of a victim pressed charges against two Seabreeze High School students who performed the skull breaker challenge on their daughter (who was said to be a special needs student).

Valerie Hodson of Arizona shared that her son was knocked unconscious with a head injury after two boys performed the tripping jump challenge on him.

Some perpetrators are even bullying students into becoming their victims, as a tripping jump challenge incident at the South Dade Senior High School on 4 February 2020 demonstrated :

“They kept asking me until I said yes,” the 16-year-old freshman said.

When the victim jumped, the two students swept her legs out from under her, causing her to fall backwards and hurt her neck and head.

TikTok Bans Tripping Jump / Skull Breaker Challenge!

Yesterday, TikTok issued this official statement on the Tripping Jump / Skull Breaker challenge :

The safety and well-being of our users is a top priority at TikTok.

As made clear in our Community Guidelines, we do not allow content that encourages, promotes, or glorifies dangerous challenges that might lead to injury, and this includes the skull breaker challenge.

Our content moderation team are on the lookout and we will remove any such content promptly.

It took them long enough to act. Sadly, a girl had to die, and a number of kids (and even adults) were injured.

PS. If you are worried about the Fuinha (@fuinha) brothers, don’t worry – TikTok will never take down a popular channel. All is forgiven, because they have a new Level Up Challenge for all of their young fans on TikTok!

To be fair, at least TikTok has finally banned the videos (if not the “influencers” who popularised them)… Facebook appears to have left the videos up, albeit with a warning cover over them.

Look! TikTok Has New Celebrities!

To help us forget about such sad matters, they also announced that 18 celebrities have joined TikTok… including Will Smith (@willsmith), The Rock (@therock), Steve Harvey (@steveharvey), and BTS (@bts_official_bighit).

Hurrah! LOOK at all that star power! All’s well now. Nothing to see here. Move along, everyone… Move on, move on…

Come on… there’s also Park Bom (@officialparkbom), MAMAMOO (@mamamoo_official), and yes, Terry Crews (@terrycrews)!

Are you NOT entertained???

Microsoft : Cybersecurity Trends + How To Stay Safe In 2020!

As part of Safer Internet Day (SID), Antony Cook from Microsoft shared the key cybersecurity trends in 2020, and how we can stay safe against those dangers.

Even if we are experienced techies, it is enlightening to find out what Microsoft believes are the cybersecurity threats that we should be looking out for in 2020.

Microsoft : Key Cybersecurity Trends In 2020!

Cybersecurity Trend #1 : Less Ransomware But More Attacks

Ransomware has declined in recent years, dropping more than 60% from its peak. But Microsoft sees a rise in other types of cyberattacks.

Attackers have learned that ransomware attracts too much attention from law enforcement, and organisations have gotten better at backing up their data.

So hackers are moving onto other activities like cryptocurrency malware and phishing, where they can more easily profit with less attention.

Cybersecurity Trend #2 : Mining Malware Will Be Big!

Attackers are often acting for financial benefit, so they will make big bets on cryptocurrency, especially in Bitcoin.

They will focus more on mining malware that lets them use your computer to mine cryptocurrency coins without being detected.

Coin mining software is easily available, and cybercriminals have put malware into many widely-shared and used software. They are also trying to inject these malware through websites illegally streaming copyrighted content like the latest movies.

Cybersecurity Trend #3 : Embedded Threats

Attackers are now more sophisticated, targeting legitimate and trusted software supply points to deliver malware. There have been many examples of this attack vector :

  • a routine update for a tax accounting application,
  • popular freeware tools which have backdoors forcibly installed,
  • a server management software package,
  • an internet browser extension or site plugin,
  • malicious images which active scripts when clicked,
  • peer-to-peer applications

In those cases, attackers were able to change the code of legitimate software that people trust and install without hesitation, allowing them to “hitch a ride”.

This attack vector is very dangerous and frustrating, because it takes advantage of the trust that consumers and IT departments already have for legitimate software.

Cybersecurity Trend #4 : Phishing Scams

Phishing continues to be one of the most effective ways to compromise systems, because it targets human decisions and judgment.

Microsoft noted that the percentage of inbound emails that were detected as phishing messages increased 250% throughout 2018, and they expect the final figures for 2019 to show the same trend.

Microsoft : How To Stay Safe In 2020!

Here is a summary of what Microsoft believes we should do to stay safe online against cybersecurity threats in 2020 :

Cybersecurity Tip #1 : Practice Good Security Hygiene

  1. Keep your operating system and software updated.
  2. Turn on email and browser protections.
  3. Apply the cybersecurity configurations that your hardware and software vendors recommend.
  4. Stay away from any unfamiliar software or websites.
  5. Use only legitimate software, and not just your key applications.

Cybersecurity Tip #2 : Implement More Access Controls

System administrators should implement more access controls, using Zero Trust or at least privilege models.

This will limit hackers that successfully break into your network from accessing more than a segment.

Cybersecurity Tip #3 : 3-2-1 Backup!

Make sure you create and keep backups, and the cloud is a great tool for this.

Microsoft recommends adhering to the 3-2-1 rule – keep three backups of your data on two different storage types, with at least one backup offsite.

Cybersecurity Tip #4 : Keep Vigilant!

Even if we implement strong cybersecurity measures, we must remain vigilant, and keep an eye out for suspicious activity.

Not just system administrators, but users as well. If you see anything suspicious – report it to your IT department immediately.

It can be anything from a sudden slowdown in your computer’s performance, to strange web pages and images appearing.

Malware Alert : How Shopper Takes Over Android Phones!

An Android malware called Shopper is actively taking over smartphones, to post fake reviews on Google Play.. and worse!

Find out what’s going on, and how to prevent your smartphone from being hijacked by Shopper!

Shopper : What Does It Do?

Shopper (Trojan-Dropper.AndroidOS.Shopper.a) is an Android trojan that uses the Google Accessibility Service to take over your smartphone.

It is not yet known how users are being infected, but researchers suspect that it may be downloaded through fraudulent ads, or third-party app stores when they try to download legitimate apps.

The malware masks itself as a system application, and uses a system icon called ConfigAPKs to hide itself from the user.

After the user unlocks the screen, the Shopper trojan launches and gathers information about the device, which is then sent to the attacker’s servers.

The attacker’s servers will then send commands to the Shopper trojan to execute one or more of these actions :

  • Check the rights to use the Accessibility Service. If permission is not granted, it will send a phishing request until it gets it
  • Turn off Google Play Protect, a safety check on Google Play Store apps before they’re downloaded
  • Post fake positive app reviews in Google Play, for those apps

  • Open links received from the remote server in an invisible window
  • Download and install advertised apps from Google Play Store
  • Download and install apps from the Apkpure third-party app store
  • Show ads when the smartphone screen is unlocked
  • Create labels to advertised ads in the app menu
  • Replace the labels of your installed apps with labels of advertised websites
  • Use your Google or Facebook account to register on popular shopping and entertainment apps, like AliExpress, Lazada, Zamora, Shein, Joom, Likee and Alibaba

Shopper : Who’s Getting Infected?

Right now, Kaspersky researchers say that it is most widespread in Russia (28.46%), following by Brazil (18.70%) and India (14.23%) :

Shopper : How To Block It?

To reduce the risk of being infected by Trojan-Dropper.AndroidOS.Shopper.a, take these actions :

  • Do NOT install apps from untrusted sources
  • Block the installation of apps from unknown sources in your smartphone settings
  • Be wary of apps that require the use of the Google Accessibility Service, especially if the app is not meant to offer accessibility features to the disabled
  • Always check application permissions to see what your installed apps are allowed to do
  • Use a reliable mobile security solution

Operation Goldfish Alpha : INTERPOL Tackles Cryptojacking!

INTERPOL just announced that their Operation Goldfish Alpha has greatly reduced cryptojacking in Southeast Asia.

Find out how INTERPOL and their partner countries cracked down on cryptojacking through Operation Goldfish Alpha!

Cryptojacking : What Is It?

Cryptojacking is a new way for cybercriminals to hijack our computer’s processing power to mine cryptocurrency.

Cryptojackers snare their victims by getting them to unwittingly install a malware in their computers. This can happen by tricking the victim into clicking on malicious links, or visiting infected websites.

Once installed, the malware gives them access to the computer or other Internet-connected devices. They can then install programmes called “coin miners” to hijack the processing power of infected devices to mine cryptocurrency.

Operation Goldfish Alpha : How INTERPOL Tackled Cryptojacking

Earlier last year, INTERPOL identified a global cryptojacking operation based on a vulnerability in MikroTik routers. The intelligence was disseminated to the affected countries.

INTERPOL’s ASEAN Cyber Capability Desk took it one step further, launching Operation Goldfish Alpha in June 2019.

They identified more than 20,000 hacked routers in the ASEAN region, which accounted for 18% of the infected global total.

Over five months, cybercrime investigators and experts from Computer Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) from across 10 ASEAN countries (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam) worked together to :

  • locate the infected routers and alert the victims,
  • patch the infected devices, so they are no longer under the cryptojacker’s control

When Operation Goldfish Alpha concluded in late November 2019, they successfully reduced the number of infected devices by 78%. But while the operation has come to an end, efforts to clean the remaining infected devices continue.

Operation Goldfish Alpha also served to increase awareness of cryptojacking, how to identify it and how to mitigate the threat.
