Are six states in Malaysia coming under MCO / PKP next week due to the massive Omicron surge?!
Take a look at the viral claim, and find out what the facts really are!
Claim : MCO For 6 States In Malaysia Next Week!
On 9 February 2022, two viral infographics went out on WhatsApp and Facebook, claiming that Malaysia recorded almost 20,000 new cases and will implement the Movement Control Order (MCO) for 6 states.
The first viral infographic was allegedly posted by the CoronaVirus Malaysia Facebook group, claiming that Malaysia recorded 19,944 new cases on 9 February 2022.
The second viral infographic was allegedly posted by the I Love Malaysian Food group, claiming that Kedah, Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Terengganu and Perlis will come under MCO restrictions from 15 February until 1 March 2022.
Truth : Malaysia Will Not Implement MCO Again
The truth is – both viral infographics are FAKE NEWS, and here are the reasons why…
On 9 February 2022, Malaysia only recorded 17,134 new cases, not 19,944 cases.
There has been no announcement by the government that six states would come under MCO.
In fact, the Malaysia COVID-19 Minister Quartet announced on the same day, that the government will NOT implement MCO on a large scale.
If there is a spike of cases in a certain area, they will implement the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) for that particular area instead.
It is also illogical to target those six states, since other states have higher mortality, hospitalisation and new case rates.
