In this guide, we will show you how to setup your new Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra for the first time!

How To Setup Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra : A Video Guide!

We have the new Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra smartphone with us, and soon you will get yours too.

Let us show you how to setup the Galaxy S22 Ultra smartphone for the first time, as a new device!

The process is very easy as our video shows, but the process will take a bit longer than you are used to.

How To Setup Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra : Step-By-Step Instructions

It is very easy to setup the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra as a new device.

However, please note that the process takes a bit longer than with other smartphones – about 10 minutes or so.

  1. Press the Power button to start up your Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra smartphone.
It will take 25 seconds to boot up for the first time.
  2. In the Welcome screen, it will default to English (or the default language for your region).
If you need to change the language, tap on the current language, and select the language you prefer.
There is also an Accessibility option below the Start button for those who need it.
  3. Once you’re ready, click Start to begin the setup process.
  4. The first thing you need to do is agree to the EULA (End User Licence Agreement) and the Privacy Policy.
You can skip sending Samsung your Diagnostic Data.
  5. In the next screen, you will have the opportunity to turn off certain Samsung apps and services.
These are all key features that will greatly impact your use of the Galaxy S22 Ultra, so I recommend that you leave them all enabled.
  6. Next, you will be allowed to log into your Wi-Fi network for Internet connectivity.
Select your Wi-Fi network and key in the password to connect.
  7. Once your Galaxy S22 Ultra connects to the Wi-Fi network, it will automatically look for updates, and prepare the device.
This is where it can get tedious – this takes a few minutes to finish, so don’t fret.
  8. Next, you will be given the option to transfer apps and data from your old smartphone.
This is a long process, which you can do now, or do it later after setting up the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
To do it later, or set it up as a new device, simply click on Don’t copy.
  9. Now you will be asked to log into your Google Account, or create a new one.
To skip for now and do it after setting up the phone, click on Skip.
  10. Next, you will be given the option of disabling certain Google services.
Generally, I would recommend leaving them enabled, except sending Google your usage and diagnostic data.
  11. Now you will be asked to protect your Galaxy S22 Ultra by selecting a preferred login method – Face recognition, Fingerprint, Pattern, PIN or Password.
  12. If you select the Face Recognition or Fingerprint option, you will need to select a secure screen lock method using Pattern, PIN or Password.
  13. Next, you will need to go through the Face Recognition / Fingerprint training process
  14. After that, your Galaxy S22 Ultra will take a few minutes to “get ready”.
  15. Next, you will be asked if you would like to downloaded Smart Tutor.
This is a Remote Access tool that allows Samsung support staff to diagnose your device remotely.
  16. After this, you will be asked to log into your Samsung account, or create a new one.
You can choose not to use a Samsung account, or do it later.
Until you use a Samsung account though, you won’t be able to access certain Samsung services.

That’s it! You have successfully setup the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra as a new device!

How To Setup The Samsung Galaxy S22 Smartphone!

In this guide, we will show you how to setup the new Samsung Galaxy S22 smartphone as a new device!

How To Setup Samsung Galaxy S22 : A Video Guide!

We have the new Samsung Galaxy S22 smartphone with us, and soon you will get yours too.

So let us show you how to setup the Galaxy S22 smartphone for the first time, as a new device!

The process is very easy, as our video shows, but the process may take a bit longer than you are used to.

How To Setup Samsung Galaxy S22 : Step-By-Step Instructions

It is very easy to setup the Samsung Galaxy S22 as a new device. However, the process takes a bit longer than with other smartphones. Even so, you should be done within 10 minutes!

  1. Press the Power button to start up your Samsung Galaxy S22 smartphone.
It will take 22 seconds to boot up for the first time.
These are all key features that will greatly impact your use of the Galaxy S22, so I recommend that you leave them all enabled.
  6. Next, you will be allowed to log into your Wi-Fi network for Internet connectivity.
Select your Wi-Fi network and key in the password to connect.
  7. Once your Galaxy S22 connects to the Wi-Fi network, it will automatically look for updates, and prepare the device.
This is where it can get tedious – this takes a few minutes to finish, so don’t fret.
  8. Next, you will be given the option to transfer apps and data from your old smartphone.
This is a long process, which you can do now, or do it later after setting up the Galaxy S22.
  11. Now you will be asked to protect your Galaxy S22 by selecting a preferred login method – Face recognition, Fingerprint, Pattern, PIN or Password.
  12. If you select the Face Recognition or Fingerprint option, you will need to select a secure screen lock method using Pattern, PIN or Password.
  13. After setting up your secure screen lock, and going through the Face Recognition / Fingerprint training process, you will be invited to install additional apps.
These are completely optional apps, some of which are probably paid placements.
Feel free to unselect whichever you don’t want, and click OK.
  14. Now, your Galaxy S22 will take a minute or two to download and install those apps.

That’s it! You have successfully setup the Samsung Galaxy S22 as a new device!

Samsung Galaxy S22 : Price + Availability

Samsung is offering the Galaxy S22 in four colour options – Phantom Black, Phantom Silver, Green and Pink Gold.

I had the opportunity to attend an exclusive Samsung preview event, to check out the colours for ourselves.

Note : Samsung only allowed us to use digital cameras, so the video is not stabilised as it would be with smartphones that I generally use.

Here in Malaysia, it is available starting 10 February 2022 in two variants, at these price points :

  • 8 GB + 128 GB : RM 3,499 (about US$836 / £617 / A$1,164 / S$1,122)
  • 8 GB + 256 GB : RM 3,699 (about US$884 / £652 / A$1,230 / S$1,186)

You can now pre-order the 8 GB + 256 GB model from now until 3 March 2022, to receive this offer!

VMS Blockchain Error With MySejahtera Vaccine Certificate?

Are you getting a VMS Blockchain error when you try to obtain your digital or PDF versions of the MySejahtera vaccine certificate?

Find out what’s going on, and what you can do about it…

VMS Blockchain Error With MySejahtera Vaccine Certificate?

Quite a few people have reported one of these VMS Blockchain errors, while trying to obtain their digital or PDF versions of the MySejahtera vaccine certificate.

Unable to connect to VMS Blockchain system, please try again after some time.

Vaccination record doesn’t exist in VMS blockchain system.

Those who receive one of these error messages will NOT be able to access their digital COVID-19 vaccine certificate in MySejahtera, or generate and download the PDF certificate.

VMS Blockchain Error In MySejahtera : What’s Going On?

The VMS blockchain error only happens to people who were vaccinated against COVID-19 overseas, and submitted their vaccination records to MySejahtera.

VMS is short for the Vaccine Management System, which uses blockchain technology for better certification and traceability.

Unfortunately, MySejahtera (currently) does not support foreign COVID-19 vaccinations.

Those who register their overseas COVID-19 vaccinations will receive a Fully Vaccinated status in MySejahtera, but will not be able to :

  • generate a PDF vaccine certificate, or
  • display a QR code on the digital vaccine certificate.

Here is the official response by the MySejahtera team on this issue :

Please be informed that MySJ application will only show the PDF or QR Code on the Digital certificate for locally taken vaccinations.

You can refer to your own Vaccine card or certificate from the country that you took the vaccine.

For entry into public places in Malaysia, you can rely on the digital COVID-19 vaccine certificate (without QR code) in Mysejahtera.

But if you need to travel overseas, you will need to rely on the vaccination card or certificate that you obtain from the country you received your COVID-19 vaccinations.

How To Walk-In For Free Sinovac Booster At Offsite PPV!

Find out how to walk-in for your free Sinovac booster dose at any Offsite PPV nationwide!

Here is what you need to know!

Free Sinovac Booster Dose At PPV?

On 7 February 2022, Malaysia Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin shared that 3.5 million people who were fully-vaccinated with the Sinovac vaccine still have not received their booster dose.

To encourage them to get their booster dose, the Malaysia Ministry of Health (KKM) will offer Sinovac recipients the option of a Sinovac booster dose.

KKM however strongly recommends that Sinovac recipients receive either the Pfizer or AstraZeneca booster dose, because they offer much better protection.

Read more : ALL Seniors + Sinovac Recipients MUST Get Booster Dose!

How To Walk-In For Free Sinovac Booster At Offsite PPV!

On 12 February 2022, ProtectHealth Corporation announced that they will make the Sinovac booster dose available for FREE at all Offsite PPVs under the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK).

Starting Monday, 14 February 2022, you can walk-in for your Sinovac booster dose at any Offsite PPV in Malaysia.

You can look for the nearest Offsite PPV using the ProtectHealth Vaccination Centre search feature.

All individuals who walk-in for the booster dose must ensure that they have a proper digital COVID-19 vaccine certificate in MySejahtera before going to the PPV.

Those who do not have a digital COVID-19 vaccine certificate because they do not have a smartphone, can bring their physical vaccination card to the PPV.

Here is the official checklist of what you need to do BEFORE going to get your COVID-19 booster dose at the PPV :

  1. Get enough sleep
  2. Eat breakfast or lunch before going to the PPV
  3. Be in good health, with no symptoms
  4. Wear suitable and comfortable clothes
  5. Wear a face mask
  6. Bring your identity card / document (e.g. passport)
  7. Bring your vaccination card as proof of completed primary vaccination, if you don’t have MySejahtera
  8. Make sure you are not required to be under quarantine!

Read more : What Should You Do Before / During / After Booster Dose?

Should You Get Sinovac Booster Dose At PPV?

Now that KKM is offering the Sinovac vaccine booster dose for free, should you get it? That very much depends on a number of factors.

Read more :

Are You Allergic To The Pfizer Vaccine?

If you are allergic to the Pfizer vaccine, then you definitely cannot receive a booster dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.

You will have to get a booster dose of other vaccine types – viral vector vaccines like AstraZeneca or Sputnik V, or inactivated virus vaccines like Sinovac or Sinopharm.

But with so many better vaccine options available out there, Sinovac CoronaVac should be your last choice, not your first.

Are There Better Options?

If you are given the option to switch to Pfizer or AstraZeneca, you should definitely opt for either one over the Sinovac CoronaVac vaccine.

Of all the WHO approved vaccines, Sinovac CoronaVac is the least efficacious COVID-19 vaccine, offering just over 50% efficacy against symptomatic COVID-19.

And that was before it was tested against the Delta or Omicron variants. Studies have shown that two doses of Sinovac offered less protection against Delta, and no protection against Omicron.

Read more : Pfizer / Sinovac vs. Omicron : What HKU Study Just Revealed!

Variant
Seropositive Rate
Pfizer Sinovac
Alpha 100% 100%
Beta 100% 0%
Delta 100% 68%
Omicron 20% – 24% 0%

Must You Get A Chinese Vaccine?

The popularity of Chinese vaccines is partly due to Chinese propaganda, and partly because China offers travel advantages for people vaccinated with Sinovac or Sinopharm vaccines.

People who need to travel to China are still FORCED to pay for Sinovac / Sinopharm vaccines to avoid additional PCR tests.

So here is my advice. If you have to travel to China, opt for the Sinopharm vaccine. It is not only cheaper than Sinovac, it is a far better COVID-19 vaccine!

What To Do Before, During, After COVID-19 Vaccine For Kids!

Find out what you need to do BEFORE, DURING and AFTER your kids get their COVID-19 vaccine shots!

What To Do Before Your Kids’ Vaccine Appointment?

Just received your kids’ COVID-19 vaccine appointment? This is what you need to do BEFORE the day of your child’s vaccine appointment.

Medication?

There are fake messages on social media asking people to stop taking medication before getting the COVID-19 vaccine. That is false and dangerous!

Please CONTINUE to give your child his/her medication, unless advised otherwise by your child’s doctor.

Dietary / Exercise Restrictions?

There are NO restrictions on diet or exercise before your child’s vaccination.

In fact, it is a good idea to treat the upcoming vaccination appointment like “any other day”. This will help allay any potential anxiety over the vaccine shot.

Painkillers?

You should NOT give your child any painkiller before going for his/her COVID-19 vaccine appointment.

That’s because painkillers can suppress your child’s immune response to the COVID-19 vaccine, and reduce its efficacy.

Read more : Can You Take Painkillers Before / After COVID-19 Vaccination?

What To Do During Your Kids’ Vaccine Appointment?

Here is a list of what you should do on the day of your child’s vaccination :

  1. Make sure your child wears loose and comfortable clothes.
  2. Make sure your child has a good meal, and drink some water.
  3. Make sure your child does NOT have a fever, or any other flu-like symptoms.
If your child is sick, do NOT go to the vaccination centre.
Cancel the appointment, and book another slot.
  4. Make sure you bring a smartphone with MySejahtera installed.
  5. Make sure you bring some form of identification – MyKad (Malaysia) or passport.
  6. Bring your child’s medication list, if you need to ask the doctor’s advice at the vaccination centre.
  7. Make sure your child wears a face mask, and if possible, wears a face shield as well.
  8. Bring a bottle of water, in case your child gets thirsty.
  9. Let your child bring a toy (or a tablet) to play with.
  10. Bring a pen, and something stiff to write on, to fill in the form.

Note : Even though you are asked to submit a digital consent form, you will still be asked to fill and sign a physical consent form at the vaccination centre.

When you get to the vaccination room or booth, please follow these steps :

  1. Make sure the vaccine vial’s label has an orange border – this confirms that it contains the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for 5-11 year-old children.
  2. You can ask to check the vaccine expiry date, but please note that the vial expiry date may not match the actual expiry date.

Don’t worry if you see the vial in the open, and not in an ice box. The new formulation is more stable and can last up to 12 hours at room temperature.

  1. The doctor or nurse will show you the syringe, for you to verify that it has the correct volume of 0.2 ml (not 0.3 ml, which is for older kids and adults).

If a low dead volume (LDV) syringe is used, you should read the volume from the first ring of the plunger, not the top.

Read more : How To Read The Volume Of LDV Syringe Correctly?

  1. Ask that you be allowed to record a video of the vaccination process.
  2. After your child receives the injection, the doctor or nurse will show you the syringe, for you to confirm that it is empty.
  3. Before leaving the vaccination booth, go through the video to confirm that your child received the full dose.
  4. If there is any discrepancy, you can address it with the doctor or nurse, or ask to see a supervisor.
  5. After your child receive the vaccination, please stay for the 15-minute observation session.
  6. Before you leave the vaccination centre, please check MySejahtera and the vaccination card to make sure your child’s name is correct.

Read more : Vaccine Underdose : What Should You Watch Out For?

What To Do After Your Kids’ Vaccine Appointment?

First, congratulate yourself on protecting your children against COVID-19.

Then take some photos before you leave the vaccination centre, and share them on social media!

Help to encourage other parents to also protect their children against COVID-19!

Dietary / Medical Restrictions?

There are NO RESTRICTIONS on your child’s diet or daily life after vaccination.

Please remember – your child was just vaccinated against COVID-19, not convicted of a crime!

Please continue to give your child his/her medications, if any.

Continue COVID-19 Precautions!

Your child must continue to take COVID-19 precautions in public, like wear a face mask and a face shield, and maintain physical distance in public, because :

Restrictions On Physical Activities?

If possible, your child should avoid strenuous physical activities for a week or two for these reasons :

  • A precautionary measure against the rare risk of myocarditis / pericarditis.
  • It will also allow you to better detect the symptoms of myocarditis / pericarditis (details below).
  • To avoid accidents if your child has a headache or fever while engaging in strenuous physical activities.
  • To avoid conflating any pain or muscle ache with the vaccination.

Please note the emphasis on strenuous. There is no need to completely restrict their physical activities.

Monitor For Symptoms Of Myocarditis / Pericarditis

Myocarditis and pericarditis are known but rare adverse events that can happen to those who receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.

The new paediatric Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine has a smaller dose, and a lower risk – only 12 myocarditis cases have reported after 8.7 million doses were administered.

The good news is – vaccine-induced myocarditis is often mild, and easily treated.

Therefore, parents are advised to monitor their children for these symptoms, and quickly seek medical attention :

  • chest pain
  • shortness of breath
  • heart palpitations / pounding heart

I would like to also point out that the risk of myocarditis from vaccines is far lower than the risk of myocarditis from a COVID-19 infection.

Read more : Vaccine myocarditis risk is less than 1 in million!

Painkillers

You should expect your child to experience mild side effects over the next few days, like fever, muscle ache and possibly headache.

You should not be overly concerned – they are evidence of your child’s immune system learning to fight against COVID-19.

You can give your child painkillers if they feel sick, but try to use paracetamol / acetaminophen instead of NSAIDS like ibuprofen and aspirin.

Report Side Effects

Please report any side effects your child feels over the next few days in MySejahtera.

If they persist, or get severe, please seek medical attention at the nearest government hospital.

How To Cancel Your Spotify Free / Premium Account!

Find out why you should cancel your Spotify Free or Spotify Premium account, and how to do it!

PS. Cancelling your free account isn’t as easy as you’d think! But cancel it, you must…

Why Cancel Your Spotify Free / Premium Account?

Spotify has long been the giant of music streaming services, but there will come a time when you want to cancel your Spotify Free or Spotify Premium account.

Most notably, Spotify is now being cancelled because they chose to allow Joe Rogan to continue spreading misinformation on their platform.

But even if you don’t care about Joe Rogan and fake news, Spotify has been slacking against the competition, namely Apple Music and Amazon  :

  • its Premium account still does not offer lossless quality
  • its Premium account still does not offer spatial audio
  • Spotify still does not support 16-bit CD-quality audio

Spotify has rested on their laurels for way too long, and you – the customer- have the option of cancelling your free or premium account to show your displeasure and hopefully wake them up from their slumber…

Even if you are using a free ad-supported Spotify account, you should still cancel it. Your cancellation matters, because Spotify relies on user base numbers to hype up their popularity to please shareholders and negotiate with artists, record labels, etc.

Read more : Spotify Lost Over $4 Billion (So Far) Over Joe Rogan!

How To Cancel Your Spotify Premium Account?

Here is the official way to cancel your Spotify Premium account.

  1. Log into spotify.com/account.
  2. Under Your plan, click CHANGE PLAN.
  3. Scroll to Cancel Spotify and click CANCEL PREMIUM.

However, that may be outdated, so here is an example by Luke Filipowicz from iMore.

  1. Log into spotify.com/account.
  2. Go to Subscription.
  3. Tap on View Details.

Credit : Luke Filipowicz, iMore

  1. Under the Update Details button, click on the “cancel your subscription” option.

Credit : Luke Filipowicz, iMore

Your Premium account will stay active until your next billing date, then your account switches to free. Please go to the next section to completely remove your Spotify free account.

Note : Due to a tremendous number of people requesting to cancel their accounts, Spotify may tell you that you are not allowed to cancel at the moment.

If that happens, simply remove your credit card in your Spotify profile settings. This will prevent them from charging your credit card, and extending your Premium subscription.

How To Cancel Your Spotify Free Account?

Here is how you can cancel your Spotify Free account. It is important to do this, even if you had already cancelled your Premium account.

  1. Log into spotify.com/account.
  2. Download and fill this form.
  3. Submit the completed form to the Spotify Support team.

Remember – as long as you maintain your Spotify Free account, you still count in their statistics of subscribers and listeners.

Google Site Kit : How To Fix JSON Data Error?

If you just installed the Google Site Kit, only to find it reporting Data error in Analytics with an invalid JSON response, we have the solution for you!

Google Site Kit : What Is JSON Data Error?

The Google Site Kit for WordPress is supposed to make it seamless to integrate Google services like Analytics and AdSense into your website.

But you may get this error message, even after you successfully set up Google Site Kit for your WordPress website.

Data error in Analytics

The response is not a valid JSON response.

This is how it looks like after we integrated Google Site Kit into Tech ARP.

As you can see, it’s kind of pointless if Google Site Kit cannot display your Analytics data directly in your WordPress admin page.

Google Site Kit : How To Fix JSON Data Error?

At first, we thought it might be a Google Site Kit configuration error, but that was not the case.

We tried disabling and re-enabling it, reinstalling it, reconfiguring and logging in again, but none of that worked.

iThemes Security Was The Problem

The problem, we finally discovered, was the popular iThemes Security plugin.

But removing it was not the solution either – it is a critical tool in mitigating the DDOS attacks that keep hitting Tech ARP.

Here Is The Solution

Finally, we stumbled upon the solution, and it’s ridiculously simple!

  1. Log into your WordPress admin page.
  2. Go to the iThemes configuration page (Security > Settings).
  3. Click on the System Tweaks option.
  4. Look for the Long URL Strings option.
  5. Uncheck the Filter Long URL Strings option.
  6. Click on Save Settings.

That’s it! After you refresh the Site Kit dashboard, you should now see the full stats displayed!

Why Enable MySJ Trace In MySejahtera?

MySJ Trace is a new MySejahtera feature, which allows for more accurate contact tracing, and removes the need to manually check out from locations.

Once enabled, your phone will use Bluetooth to communicate with other phones that have MySJ Trace enabled, to determine the distance and length of contact. This eliminates the need to manually check-out.

The proximity data it collects allows Malaysia Ministry of Health (KKM) to accurately determine if you are a close contact of a COVID-19 positive person.

Obviously, this feature only works if everyone has MySJ Trace enabled, so please enable it!

Why Disable MySJ Trace In MySejahtera?

Some people are worried that the government is using MySJ Trace to track their movements, but that’s really not possible.

Others are worried about the battery life that the persistent Bluetooth connection will consume. As it uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology, the power consumption is very low.

Even so, the battery consumption is a valid concern for some users, especially those who are using smartphones with very small or ageing batteries.

However, I highly recommend you try MySJ Trace before turning it off and on like that. From my personal experience, it really uses very little power.

How To Enable + Disable MySJ Trace In MySejahtera!

I created this video to show you how to enable and disable MySJ Trace in MySejahtera.

Note : This is the extended version, which includes the method to permanently disable MySJ Trace.

For those who prefer a step-by-step guide with pictures, please skip to the next section.

How To Enable MySJ Trace In MySejahtera?

MySJ Trace is (currently) NOT mandatory and is an opt-in feature, so you actually have to manually enable it, if you want to participate.

Step 1 : Update to the MySejahtera version that has MySJ Trace.

Step 2 : Open MySejahtera, and you will see a black MySJ Trace section in the default Check-in screen.

Step 3 : Tap on Setup MySJ Trace to begin the setup process.

Step 4 : Tap on the Start button in the initial explainer screen.

Step 5 : Tap the I agree button to consent to give your “interaction information” for the past 14 days to the Malaysia Ministry of Health for “contact tracing purposes”.

Step 6 : In the App Permissions screen, tap on the Allow button.

Step 7 : First, you will be asked to allow MySejahtera to access your smartphone’s location. Tap on While using the app.

Step 8 : Next, you will be asked to allow MySejahtera to detect your location all the time. Tap on Allow all the time.

Step 9 : Now, you will be asked to enable Bluetooth, if it is not already enabled.

Step 10 : Once all necessary permissions have been enabled, just tap on the Close button.

That’s it! You have now activated MySJ Trace in MySejahtera.

What If You Can’t Enable MySJ Trace In MySejahtera?

Quite a few people have reported to us that tapping on the Allow button doesn’t do anything (Step 6). Here are some solutions…

iOS Devices : Manually Turn On Bluetooth

In your iOS device, there are two ways to turn on Bluetooth :

  1. Go to Settings > Bluetooth, and tap on the toggle to turn it on
  2. Pull down the Notification Center, and tap on the Bluetooth icon to turn it on.

After turning on Bluetooth manually, set up MySJ Trace again from Step 3. It should now work.

Android Devices : Manually Turn On Bluetooth + Location

In your Android device, there are two ways to turn on Bluetooth :

  1. Go to Settings > Connections, and tap on the Bluetooth toggle to turn it on
  2. Pull down the notification tray, and tap on the Bluetooth icon to turn it on.

After turning on Bluetooth manually, you should also manually enable Location permission :

Step 1 : Go to Settings > Apps > MySejahtera > Permissions.

Step 2 : Tap on the Location option under the list of Allowed permissions.

Step 3 : Tap on Allow All the time.

After this, set up MySJ Trace again from Step 3. It should now work.

Android 12 Devices : Enable Nearby Devices

MySJ Trace may stop working once your device is upgraded to Android 12.

Here is what you need to do to get MySJ Trace working again with Android 12 devices:

Step 1 : Go to Settings > Apps > MySejahtera > Permissions.

Step 2 : Tap on the Nearby devices option under the list of Not allowed permissions.

Step 3 : Tap on the Allow option.

MySJ Trace will now work without further action!

How To Disable MySJ Trace In MySejahtera?

Quickly + Temporarily Disable MySJ Trace

MySejahtera does not offer any option to turn off MySJ Trace once you set it up, but if you prefer to turn off MySJ Trace to “protect your privacy“, or to save a little power, there is an easy way to do it.

All you have to do is disable Bluetooth connectivity, and MySJ Trace is immediately disabled. That’s because MySJ Trace relies on Bluetooth to determine your proximity to other users.

You can do that by pulling down the notification tray in your smartphone, and tapping on the active Bluetooth icon to disable it. Alternatively, you can disable it in your device settings.

Once disabled, the MySJ Trace section in the MySejahtera check-in screen will now ask you to setup again. But there is no need to set it up again.

Whenever you want to re-enable MySJ Trace, all you have to do is re-enable Bluetooth, and MySJ Trace will immediately start working again. Essentially, your smartphone’s Bluetooth connectivity now acts as a toggle for MySJ Trace.

Permanently Disable MySJ Trace

For those who want to permanently disable MySJ Trace, without disabling Bluetooth, reinstalling MySejahtera works for both Android and iOS devices. This is the only known solution for iOS devices.

Android devices, on the other hand, have two alternatives – disabling location permission, or clearing app data.

Option A : Disable Location Permission

Here are the steps to disable Location Permission for MySejahtera in your Android device :

Step 1 : Go to Settings > Apps > MySejahtera > Permissions.

Step 2 : Tap on the Location option under the list of Allowed permissions.

Step 3 : Tap on Allow only while using the app or Deny.

That’s it! Once you go out, MySJ Trace will be permanently disabled in MySejahtera.

Credit : I would like to thank Kyle Hudsons for pointing this out to us.

Option B : Clear MySejahtera App Data

Here are the steps to clear the MySejahtera app data in your Android device :

Step 1 : Go to Settings > Apps > MySejahtera > Storage.

Step 2 : Tap on Clear data. You will be warned that this will remove your MySejahtera account information and database.

Please be warned that if you proceed, your MySejahtera account information will be cleared, together with your past contact history.

Your COVID-19 vaccination history and certificate are stored in the cloud and remain safe, but you will need to log into your MySejahtera account again.

So please do NOT proceed unless you remember your MySJ ID and password!

Step 3 : If you are sure, tap on the OK option to clear the MySejahtera data.

Step 4 : Launch MySejahtera, and log into MySejahtera using your MySJ ID (either your mobile number or email address), and your password.

After you log in, you will see that MySJ Trace has been disabled. You will need to setup MySJ Trace (again) to enable it.

Why COVID-19 Vaccine Shelf Life Keeps Getting Extended!

Did you know that COVID-19 vaccine shelf life can be extended beyond what’s printed on the vial, sometimes more than once?

Find out why they keep extending vaccine shelf life, and whether we should be worried about that!

COVID-19 Vaccine Shelf Life Is Way Too Short

Based on their experience developing past vaccines, manufacturers have a good idea of how long their vaccines will remain stable and retain their quality and efficacy.

When properly stored, vaccines can last a long time. Most vaccines actually have a shelf life of about three years.

However, vaccine manufacturers have been extraordinarily cautious when it comes to COVID-19 vaccines. Many COVID-19 vaccines ship with shelf lives of only 3 to 6 months!

The key takeaway point is that COVID-19 vaccine shelf lives are extraordinarily short. Many healthcare professionals would call them way too short.

COVID-19 Vaccine Shelf Life Extension Is Normal

The ultra-short shelf life for COVID-19 vaccines have led to criticism that such excessive caution is leading to wastage.

Even while there is a global shortage of vaccines, many doses had to be disposed when they “expired”, even though they are still safe and effective to use.

The WHO has been urging countries to hold onto those “expired doses” while manufacturers are assessing whether their shelf lives can be extended.

The US FDA also points out that vaccines authorised for emergency use do NOT have fixed expiry dates.

Once new stability studies prove that the vaccine remains stable and effective over time, the expiry date of those vaccines can and will be extended.

I should point out that these extended COVID-19 vaccine shelf lives are still very conservative. Perhaps overly conservative.

In fact, we should expect them to keep getting extended as further stability tests show that they do actually last very long.

Which COVID-19 Vaccine Has Extended Shelf Life?

You may be surprised to know this, but the shelf life of many COVID-19 vaccines have extended, sometimes more than once.

So do NOT be alarmed if you are given a dose from a vial with an “expired date“. It does NOT mean that you have been given a “bad vaccine”.

It just means that the vaccine has been proven to last much longer than originally expected.

Pfizer-BioNTech COMIRNATY

The Pfizer-BioNTech COMIRNATY vaccine originally had a 6 month shelf life. That was extended by 3 months, to 9 months on 22 August 2021.

On 16 December 2021, the US FDA also extended shelf life for the COMIRNATY vaccine that uses the Tris buffer to 9 months.

So all existing vaccine doses can be used for an additional 3 months beyond their printed expiry dates, as long as they are stored between -90ºC to -60ºC.

Moderna Spikevax

The Moderna COVID-19 vaccine originally had a 7 month shelf life.

On 23 December 2021, both UK MHRA and Health Canada extended its shelf life by 2 months, to 9 months, as long as it is stored between -25ºC to -15ºC.

The US FDA also extended the shelf life of certain lots by 2 months, to 9 months, as long as they are stored between -50ºC to -15ºC.

J&J Janssen COVID-19 Vaccine

The Janssen COVID-19 vaccine from Johnson & Johnson originally has a 3 month (90-day) shelf life.

The US FDA extended its shelf life to 4.5 months (135 days) on 10 June 2021, and then 6 months (180 days) on 28 July 2021.

All existing vaccine doses can now be used for an additional 1.5 to 3 months (45 to 60 days) beyond their printed expiry dates, as long as they are stored at 2-8ºC.

AstraZeneca Vaxzevria

In May 2021, Health Canada extended the shelf life of about 45,000 AstraZeneca doses by a month, following review of stability data.

It allowed the use of doses with an original expiry date of 31 May 2021, until 1 July 2021.

Otherwise, all AstraZeneca vaccine doses remain with their original shelf life of six months.

Sinovac CoronaVac

The CoronaVac inactivated virus vaccine from Sinovac originally had a 6-month shelf life, which was later extended to 12 months, when it was approved by the WHO.

However, Sinovac appears to give the CoronaVac different shelf lives depending on who’s purchasing their vaccine – 1 year in Malaysia, 2 years in Singapore, and 3 years in Indonesia and Thailand.

Sinopharm BIBP

The Sinopharm BIBP vaccine has a 24-month shelf life, as registered with the WHO. With such a long shelf life, there is no real need for an extension.

CanSino Convidecia

The CanSino Convidecia vaccine has a 24-month shelf life, and remains stable for 60 days at room temperature.

With such a long shelf life, there is no real need for an extension.

SII Covishield

Covishield is a rebranded AstraZeneca vaccine manufactured by the Serum Institute of India, and has the same original 6 month shelf life.

In March 2021, the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) extended its shelf life by 3 additional months, to 9 months.

Bharat Covaxin

Covaxin originally had a shelf life of 6 months, but that was extended to 12 months by the Indian Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation on 3 November 2021.

All existing vaccine doses can now be used for an additional 6 months beyond their printed expiry dates, as long as they are stored at 2-8ºC.

Sputnik V

The Russian vaccine – Sputnik V originally had an incredibly short 2-month shelf life at -18ºC.

The Russian Healthcare Ministry then allowed it to be stored for 2 months at 2-8ºC, before later extending it to 6 months when stored at -18ºC to -22ºC.

MySJ Trace : Frequently Asked Questions + Answers!

The new MySJ Trace feature has raised many questions, and here are the answers to your frequently asked questions!

MySJ Trace : Frequently Asked Questions + Answers!

Ever since the MySejahtera team launched the MySJ Trace feature, many questions were raised by people over its security, privacy, and usability.

So with help from Dr. Mahesh Appannan, the Head of Data at the Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC) of the Malaysia Ministry of Health (KKM), here are the answers to some of your frequently asked questions about MySJ Trace!

These answers supplement the original frequently asked questions (FAQ) about the MySJ Trace feature, which you can read in the next section.

Question #1 : Why Does MySJ Lists Interactions Even At Home?

The interactions refers to Bluetooth devices (with MySJ Trace enabled) that your MySejahtera app detected.

MySJ Trace can detect Bluetooth signals from as far as 10 metres away, but can be reduced by barriers (walls, your body, other electronics, etc.)

It will not only detect the smartphones of your family members (with MySJ Trace enabled), but also your neighbours, who can be in the floor above, below, or next to your home.

There is nothing to worry about these “interactions”. It just means you came within 10 metres of people who have MySJ Trace enabled.

Question #2 : Does Interactions Mean Casual / Close Contacts?

No, not all interactions are flagged as casual / close contacts, if you become COVID-19 positive.

The algorithm takes into account the signal strength (RSSI – Received Signal Strength Indicator) that your phone detects, and your exposure time.

The parameters used to classify casual or close contacts are refined over time for maximum accuracy. For example, if the Omicron variant becomes widespread, the exposure time will be shortened, and the distance extended, for someone to be considered a casual / close contact.

Question #3 : Why Do People In The Same Family Have Different Number Of Interactions?

Even if your family goes out together, you may all have different number of interactions, because it depends on a variety of facts :

  • your individual proximity to other people,
  • anything that blocks Bluetooth signals – their bodies, other electronics, electronic keys, etc.
  • whether you are holding the phone, or it is in your pocket, etc.

Question #4 : Does MySJ Trace Transmit My Data With Each Interaction?

No. There is no handshake or exchange of information with each interaction.

MySJ Trace detects the Bluetooth signal of other phones, and logs when that “interaction” occurred, and the signal strength.

It’s like listening to the radio – the broadcaster does not receive anything in return.

Question #5 : Does MySJ Trace Transmit My Data?

No. MySJ Trace stores all of the recorded data in your phone, and does not automatically upload it.

Only if you are COVID-19 positive, are you asked to upload your contact history for the last 14 days, so that people who were your close contact can be notified.

MySJ Trace requires your explicit consent to transmit your data to the Malaysia Ministry of Health (KKM).

Question #6 : How Long Does MySJ Trace Store Data?

MySJ Trace only stores data for the last 14 days, on a First-In, First-Out basis.

All data older than the most recent 14 days are automatically purged.

Question #7 : Why Do You Still Need To Check In Using QR Code?

First – not everyone is using MySJ Trace, so there still needs to be an alternative contact tracing method.

The QR code check-in function also gives KKM data to undertake faster contact tracing, especially involving a major cluster.

Question #8 : What’s The Difference Between MySJ Trace And QR Code Check-In?

MySJ Trace allows for automatic contact tracing, while QR code check-in gives KKM critical data. In addition :

  • MySJ Trace algorithm is based on time and distance (Bluetooth signal strength), while
  • Check-In algorithm is based only on time

Question #9 : Does MySJ Trace Use A Lot Of Battery Power?

MySJ Trace uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), which consumes significantly lower power than standard Bluetooth wireless communications. The impact on battery life is minimal.

Question #10 : Why Does MySJ Trace Not Use Exposure Notification By Google / Apple?

By Google and Apple standards, an Exposure Notification (EN) app must maintain user anonymity, and record proximity data anonymously. It cannot contain Personally Identifiable Information (PII).

The MySejahtera app necessarily contains your identity, vaccination status and certificates, and so on. Therefore, it cannot comply with Google and Apple’s requirements for an Exposure Notification app.

    – Non-sleep mode must be set, so MySJ Trace will remain active in both foreground and background modes.
  • iOS : Version 10 and above
    – The phone must be active at all times while the app needs to be in the foreground mode.

13. Must Bluetooth be activated at all times?

Yes, Bluetooth must be activated at all times for MySJ Trace to work properly.

14. Will Bluetooth usage cause high battery usage?

Unlike using Bluetooth to stream music or to a wireless headphone continuously, MySJ Trace uses Bluetooth to only transmit its presence periodically. As such, it uses significantly less power.

15. Will the app use significant battery power if MySJ Trace is left running all the time?

MySJ Trace uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to minimise battery usage. Therefore, the app does not use significant amounts of battery power to collect persistent contact tracing information.

16. Will MySJ Trace Bluetooth usage affect my other Bluetooth accessories?

MySJ Trace does not affect the use or performance of other Bluetooth accessories like wireless speakers, wireless earphones or headphones, or smartwatches.

17. Why must I allow location permission for the Android version?

Android requires location permission to be granted for any app to access Bluetooth features. However, geolocation data will not be collected.

For iOS, only the Bluetooth function needs to be enabled.

How To Get FREE Sinovac Booster Dose Using Selangkah!

The Selangor state government is offering FREE Sinovac vaccine booster doses under the Selvax programme!

Here is what you need to know about the free Sinovac booster dose using the Selangkah app!

Updated @ 2021-12-15 : Added the latest info, including a warning about rescheduling of appointments!

Sinovac Booster By Selvax : FREE For Selangor Residents

On 8 December 2021, the Selangor state government started offering FREE Sinovac booster doses under the Selvax programme.

These Sinovac booster doses are being administered at Selcare clinics and The KL Clinic branches all across Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, at no cost to residents.

Note : On 15 December, the Selangkah team announced that they are rescheduling the booster dose appointments.

So please check your Selangkah app one day before the appointment, to see if there has been a change in the time slot.

Please go only at your appointed time, to avoid creating an unnecessary queue. And please make sure you maintain COVID-19 precautions at all times.

Sinovac Booster Dose : How To Get It FREE On Selangkah App!

This free Sinovac booster dose offer is open to all Selangor residents who received two Sinovac doses earlier, even those who did not receive them under the Selvax programme.

However, only 157,000 Sinovac vaccine doses will be available as booster shots, which could explain the long queues on the first day.

Earlier, you had to call up each clinic to arrange for an appointment. That has been superseded by registration through the updated Selangkah app using this method :

Step 1 : Install and open the Selangkah app.

Step 2 : In the main screen of the Selangkah app, tap on Selvax > Self Booking > Booster Dose.

Step 3 : Key in your personal information.

Step 4 : Verify the application using the OTP code.

Step 5 : Select the location and date of your preferred vaccination appointment

Step 6 : Key in the Voucher Code (see below) before you “check out”.

Step 7 : Bring the receipt for your appointment.

Please do NOT queue up like what happened earlier!

Here is a list of available clinics and Voucher Codes :

Selcare Clinic Section 13, Shah Alam : SCSAS

Selcare Clinic Skypark Subang : SCSSS

Selcare Clinic USJ Sentral : SCUSJ

Selcare Clinic Puchong : SCPPS

Selcare Clinic Sentosa : SCSKS

The KL Clinic, Rohas Perks : TKCRP

The KL Clinic, Menara Hap Seng 2 : TKCHS

The KL Clinic, Menara Olympia : TKCMO

The KL Clinic, Menara Worldwide : TKCMW

The KL Clinic, Sri Ramp : TKCSR

The KL Clinic, UBN Tower : TKCUBN

Sinovac booster dose vaccinations will be carried out at these clinics from 9 AM until 5 PM, from Monday to Friday only.

Free Sinovac Booster Dose By Selvax : Good Intentions, Terrible Idea

While I am cognisant of the Selangor state government’s good intentions, I frankly believe that this is a terrible idea.

I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND that those who received two doses of the Sinovac vaccine get the Pfizer or AstraZeneca vaccine as a booster dose instead.

The Sinovac CoronaVac has always been the least efficacious COVID-19 vaccine to be approved – at just over 50%.

On top of that, the recent RECoVaM study showed that the Sinovac vaccine’s protection against COVID-19 infections and hospitalisation drops dramatically after just 2 months!

That’s why CITF-B strongly recommended that Sinovac recipients take the Pfizer or AstraZeneca booster, and NOT a third dose of Sinovac.

In fact, Singapore considers people who took THREE doses of the Sinovac vaccine to be equivalent to those who took TWO doses of Pfizer / Moderna / AstraZeneca. It’s THAT bad.

Read more : Official CITF-B Booster Dose Recommendations!
Read more : Sinovac Vaccine Efficacy Rapidly Drops After 2 Months!

Heterologous vaccination (mixing of vaccines) has already been tested in many countries and PROVEN to be safe and even more effective.

The only medical reason to take a third dose of the Sinovac vaccine is if you had an earlier allergic reaction to the Pfizer vaccine, and there is no better alternative available.

Malaysia is offering the AstraZeneca vaccine as an alternative to the Pfizer vaccine, and it is a far SUPERIOR vaccine to Sinovac. So if the Pfizer vaccine scares you too much (thank you, fake news!), then get the AstraZeneca vaccine instead.

I have personally advised all of my family and friends NOT to take the third dose of the Sinovac vaccine, and opt instead for the Pfizer or AstraZeneca vaccine for their booster dose.

The choice is yours. But please make that choice based on hard facts, and not fake news.

macOS Monterey Memory Leak : Solutions You Can Try!

macOS Monterey continues to be plagued by an insidious memory leak problem that Apple does not seem able to fix.

So here are a few workarounds that you can try!

macOS Monterey Memory Leak : What’s Going On?

Ever since it was released on 25 October 2021, macOS Monterey has been plaguing users with an insidious memory leak problem.

And even as Christmas approaches, Apple is still unable to fix the problem. Here is what we know so far…

It Gobbles Up Insane Amounts Of Memory

The memory leak quietly eats up insane amounts of memory, creeping up on users without warning.

A single affected app like Firefox can gobble up almost 80 GB of memory. Even a critical macOS process like WindowServer can end up using 24 GB of memory, while the Mail app can use more than 100 GB of memory!

Unless you have been keeping an eye on memory usage, you will only realise this is happening when you get the warning that “Your system has run out of application memory” with a request to Force Quit apps you are not using.

It Appears To Be An OS Issue

This Monterey memory leak affects many different apps with no obvious culprit in sight :

  • Internet browsers like Firefox and Safari
  • Apps like Tweetbot and Final Cut Pro
  • macOS features like Control Center, Mail and Finder
  • macOS processes like WindowsServer

That strongly suggests that it is an operating system issue, and not a bug in any particular app.

It Affects Intel + Apple Silicon Models

This Monterey memory leak problem is not platform-specific, and affects both Intel and Apple Silicon models.

So you are not going to be able to “escape” this memory leak problem by upgrading to the new M1 Pro / Max-powered MacBook Pro laptops.

macOS Monterey Memory Leak : Possible Solutions

Unfortunately, Apple still does not seem to be able to plug this insidious macOS Monterey memory leak. So here are some solutions that may work for you…

Revert To Standard Mouse Pointer

One of the new features macOS Monterey is the ability to change the mouse pointer’s size, as well as its outline and fill colours.

However, the developers at Mozilla discovered that using a non-standard mouse pointer in macOS Monterey causes a large memory leak!

This memory leak is not limited to Firefox, but occurs anytime the non-standard mouse pointer changes its look, like when you mouse over a button or a text field.

To fix this, you will need to revert to a standard mouse pointer, and here’s how to do that :

Step 1 : Go to Settings and select Accessibility.

Step 2 : Tap on the Display option, and select the Pointer tab.

Step 3 : Move the Pointer size all the way to the left (Normal).

Step 4 : Click on the Reset button to the right of Pointer outline colour and Pointer fill colour.

Step 5 : Restart your Mac, and fingers crossed – this fixes your Monterey memory leak problem!

Relaunch Finder

If you notice Finder using a prodigious amount of memory, that memory leak happens when you use the Find (⌘ F) feature in to search for files.

The easiest way to prevent this memory leak is to avoid using Finder’s Find feature. Try using the Search option on the upper right corner.

But once you get a Finder memory leak, you must relaunch it to release the leaked memory…

Option A : While in the Finder window, click on the Apple menu. Then press and hold the Shift key and click on Force Quit Finder.

Option B : Click on the Apple menu. Click Force Quit (Command + Option + Escape). Then select Finder and click on Relaunch.

Limit Use Of Control Center

Some users have reported that the Control Center can use upwards of 20GB of RAM, but most users fortunately do not encounter such terrible waste of memory.

This memory leak is easily reproducible – every time you use a control, it uses a little more RAM but does not release it.

Unfortunately, there is no way to release the leaked memory short of restarting the computer. So the best way to avoid this memory leak is to limit the use of Control Center.

Restart Apps Whenever Memory Use Is Too Much

Well, this seems obvious, but I have to throw it in anyway.

If any app, whether it’s Safari or Final Cut Pro starts using way too much memory, just close and reopen it. That should quickly recover the leaked memory.

Of course, this is only a stopgap solution until Apple releases a fix for this truly pesky memory problem in macOS Monterey…

MySejahtera : How To Clear App Cache To Resolve Problems!

If you face problems in MySejahtera, clearing its App Cache is a quick way to resolve them.

Here is our step-by-step guide on how to clear the MySejahtera App Cache!

Why You Need To Clear MySejahtera App Cache

MySejahtera has improved greatly since it was first launched, but many users still complain of various bugs and problems.

For example, your vaccination status may not appear correctly. Many people have also reported that they were unable to generate and/or download their COVID-19 vaccination certificate.

The most common solution to this problem is to delete and reinstall MySejahtera. But before you do that, you can actually try to clear its App Cache.

How To Clear MySejahtera App Cache : Video Guide

Here is our video guide on how to clear the MySejahtera App Cache on Android smartphones.

Unfortunately, there is no such option for the iPhone.

How To Clear MySejahtera App Cache : Pictorial Guide

For those who prefer a pictorial guide, here is our step-by-step guide on how to clear the MySejahtera app cache.

Step 1 : Look for Settings in your Android smartphone.

Step 2 : Scroll down the list of available settings, and tap on Apps.

Step 3 : Tap on the Search icon on the upper right corner of Apps.

Step 4 : Type “mysejahtera” and when it appears, tap on MySejahtera.

Step 5 : Scroll down and tap on the Storage option.

Step 6 : In the MySejahtera Storage page, tap on the Clear cache option at the bottom.

Warning : Do NOT tap on Clear data, as that would wipe out your login data. It will be like you deleted and reinstalled MySejahtera.

But if you did it anyway, don’t worry. Your other MySejahtera data is still safely stored in the cloud. You just need to log into MySejahtera again.

That’s it! That clears the MySejahtera app cache! Simple enough, isn’t it?

You can now log into MySejahtera to see if that resolves your problem.

Bonus Step : Delete App Data Too!

If it still did NOT resolve your problem, you can repeat the steps above, and tap on Clear data instead of just tapping on Clear cache.

But be warned that this step will wipe out your login data, so you will need to log into MySejahtera after this. It will be similar to deleting and reinstalling MySejahtera.

Dead by Daylight

Dead by Daylight is a multiplayer (4vs1) horror game where one player takes on the role of the savage Killer, and the other four players play as Survivors, trying to escape the Killer and avoid being caught and killed.

Survivors play in third-person and have the advantage of better situational awareness. The Killer plays in first-person and is more focused on their prey.

The Survivors’ goal in each encounter is to escape the Killing Ground without getting caught by the Killer – something that sounds easier than it is, especially when the environment changes every time you play.

Survive Together… Or Not – Survivors can either cooperate with the others or be selfish. Your chance of survival will vary depending on whether you work together as a team or if you go at it alone. Will you be able to outwit the Killer and escape their Killing Ground?

Where Am I? – Each level is procedurally generated, so you’ll never know what to expect. Random spawn points mean you will never feel safe as the world and its danger change every time you play.

A Feast for Killers – Dead by Daylight draws from all corners of the horror world. As a Killer you can play as anything from a powerful Slasher to terrifying paranormal entities. Familiarize yourself with your Killing Grounds and master each Killer’s unique power to be able to hunt, catch and sacrifice your victims.

New Measures To Block Omicron Variant From Malaysia!

With the Omicron variant rapidly spreading across the globe, Malaysia has initiated new measures to block it from reaching our shores.

Here is what you need to know…

New Measures To Block Omicron Variant From Malaysia!

On 1 December 2021, the Malaysia Minister of Health Khairy Jamaluddin announced a series of new measures to block the Omicron variant from reaching our shores.

This decision came after 20 countries reported over 200 cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 :

Country Omicron
Cases
Country Omicron
Cases
South Africa 128 Austria 4
Botswana 19 Brazil 2
Portugal 13 Canada 2
The Netherlands 12 Japan 2
United Kingdom 9 Denmark 2
Australia 6 Spain 1
Hong Kong 5 Reunion Island (France) 1
Germany 5 Belgium 1
Italy 4 Czech Republic 1
Israel 4 Sweden 1

How Malaysia Intends To To Block Omicron Variant!

Temporary Travel Ban

Malaysia will no longer allow flights from or transiting through countries with Omicron variant transmission, or high risk countries, will be blocked.

These are the eight (8) countries that the Malaysia Ministry of Health (KKM) has listed under the travel ban :

  • South Africa
  • Botswana
  • Eswatini
  • Lesotho
  • Mozambique
  • Namibia
  • Zimbabwe
  • Malawi

There is also a temporary travel ban for non-Malaysian citizens from those countries, including travellers who have been in those countries during the last 14 days prior to arrival.

Malaysian citizens and holders of long-term passes (PR status, spouse visa, MM2H and resident pass) are still ALLOWED to return to Malaysia, subject to these restrictions :

  • Irrespective of their vaccination status, they must undergo a 14-day mandatory quarantine at a quarantine station.
  • They must undergo three RT-PCR COVID-19 tests :
    – within 72 hours before departure,
    – on arrival in Malaysia, and
    – on the 10th day of the mandatory quarantine
  • A risk assessment will be conducted on the 14th day of quarantine, which may be extended if the traveller is symptomatic.

Malaysian citizens who are planning to visit the listed countries are NOT ALLOWED to continue with their travel plans.

Vaccinated Travel Lane

Arrangements to create a Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) with countries with Omicron variant transmission, or high risk countries, have been postponed.

In addition, the Malaysia-Singapore VTL programme for both air and land travel has been amended to require travellers to undergo additional COVID-19 self-tests on the 3rd and 7th day after arrival.

They must then report their test results in MySejahtera.

Monitoring Of Countries With Omicron Variant Cases

The Ministry of Health (KKM) will monitor and provide the other government ministries with a DAILY LIST of countries with Omicron variant cases, or at high risk.

Strengthening Of International Gateways

The Immigration Department of Malaysia has immediately STOPPED the use of the Autogate system.

Flights carrying passengers from the listed countries with Omicron variant transmission, or high risk countries, are only allowed to enter Malaysia through KLIA.

Airlines are responsible for identifying passengers travelling from countries with Omicron variant transmission, or high-risk countries. This information must be submitted to the KLIA Health Office for easier handling of the arrivals.

MAHB is required to create a special “gate” and path for travellers from countries with Omicron variant transmission, or high-risk countries, to undergo a health screening before undergoing their special quarantine.

International Students + Foreign Workers

International students and foreign workers from countries with Omicron variant cases, or high-risk countries, will be temporarily BANNED from entering Malaysia.

Langkawi International Tourism Bubble

Tourists from countries with Omicron variant transmission, or high-risk countries; or those with history of travel to those countries in the past 14 days, are NOT ALLOWED to participate in the Langkawi International Tourism Bubble.

Malaysian citizens (Langkawi residents) returning from countries with Omicron variant transmission, or high-risk countries, are ALLOWED to return to Malaysia, but only through KLIA and must undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine in a special quarantine station.

Foreign tourists who are confirmed to be positive with the Omicron variant of COVID-19 will be isolated and treated in a private hospital, at their own cost.

Singapore-Malaysia VTL Land (Causeway) Travel Guide!

There is now a Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) for land travel between Singapore and Malaysia at the Johor Causeway!

Here is what you need to know about the Singapore to Malaysia Vaccinated Travel Lane by land!

Singapore-Malaysia VTL By Land Kicked Off!

After almost 2 years of border closures, Singapore and Malaysia agreed to launch a Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) on 8 November 2021.

At first, this was only by air – between Changi Airport and KLIA, but that was expanded to include the Johor Causeway as well!

From 29 November 2021 onwards, fully-vaccinated individuals will be allowed to travel between Changi Airport and KLIA, and across the Johor Causeway.

Travellers using these Vaccinated Travel Lanes will NOT be required to serve any quarantine or Stay-Home-Notice. They will only be required to take COVID-19 tests!

However, I should point out that this VTL scheme is NOT cheap, as you will need to undergo several COVID-19 tests.

Booster Dose : What Should YOU Do Before / During / After?

Getting ready for your COVID-19 booster dose vaccination?

Find out what you need to do BEFORE, DURING and AFTER your booster dose vaccination!

What Should You Do Before Booster Dose Vaccination?

Just received your COVID-19 booster dose appointment? This is what you need to do BEFORE your COVID-19 vaccination!

Medication?

There are fake messages on social media asking people to stop taking their medications before getting their booster dose vaccination. That is false and dangerous!

You should CONTINUE to take your medication, unless advised otherwise by your doctor.

Dietary / Exercise Restrictions?

There are generally NO restrictions on diet or exercise before your booster dose vaccination, unless your doctor advises otherwise.

However, you should limit or avoid alcohol the day before your vaccination. Excessive alcohol intake can suppress your immune system, and reduce the efficacy of the vaccine.

Painkillers?

You should NOT take painkillers before going for your vaccination.

That’s because painkillers can suppress your immune response, and reduce the efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Read more : Can You Take Painkillers Before / After COVID-19 Vaccination?

On Vaccination Day

On the day of your vaccination, please make sure to :

  1. Wear loose and comfortable clothes.
  2. Have a good meal, and drink some water. Don’t drink too much, or you will need to go to the toilet!
  3. Make sure you do NOT have a fever, or any other flu-like symptoms.
If you are sick, do NOT go to the clinic / hospital.
Call them up and ask for a new appointment.
  4. Bring a smartphone with MySejahtera installed, if possible (Malaysia only, not compulsory).
  5. You must bring some form of identification – MyKad (Malaysia) or passport.
  6. Bring your medication list, if you need to ask the doctor’s advice at the clinic / hospital.
  7. If you are pregnant, please bring your health record book.
  8. You must wear a face mask, and if possible, wear a face shield.
  9. Bring a bottle of water, in case you get thirsty.
  10. Bring a pen, and something stiff to write on, to fill in the forms.

Which Booster Dose Should You Choose?

You may be offered a choice of booster dose, but generally, the COVID-19 Immunisation Task Force – Booster (CITF-B) recommends the Pfizer booster dose.

Using the Pfizer booster dose gives you a big boost in protection, almost equivalent to those who received three doses of the mRNA vaccine.

This is especially important for those who are using less efficacious vaccines like Sinovac and Sinopharm. While a Sinovac booster dose is offered, it will not give you as much protection as a Pfizer or AstraZeneca booster dose.

Read more : Sinovac Booster Dose : Can You Get It? Should You Get It?
Read more :
Official CITF-B Vaccine Booster Dose Recommendations!

What Should You Do During Booster Dose Vaccination?

When you get to the vaccination room or booth, please follow these steps :

  1. Check the label of the vial or prepared syringe, to confirm the vaccine you are receiving. Here in Malaysia, that’s Pfizer, AstraZeneca or Sinovac.
  2. The doctor or nurse will show you the syringe, for you to verify that it has the correct volume.
Vaccines Dose Volume
Pfizer COMIRNATY 0.3 ml
AstraZeneca Vaxzevria 0.5 ml
Sinovac CoronaVac 0.5 ml

If a low dead volume (LDV) syringe is used, you should read the volume from the first ring of the plunger, not the top.

Read more : How To Read The Volume Of LDV Syringe Correctly?

  1. Ask that you be allowed to record a video of the vaccination process.
  2. After receiving the injection, the doctor or nurse will show you the syringe, for you to confirm that it is empty.
  3. Before leaving the vaccination room, go through the video to confirm that you received the dose.
  4. If there is any discrepancy, you can address it with the doctor or nurse, or ask to see a supervisor.

Read more : Vaccine Underdose : What Should You Watch Out For?

What Should You Do After Booster Dose Vaccination?

First, congratulate yourself on protecting yourself and your family. Then take some photos before you leave the clinic / hospital, and share them on social media!

Dietary Restrictions?

There are NO RESTRICTIONS on your diet or daily life after your booster dose vaccination. Please remember – you were vaccinated against COVID-19, not convicted of a crime!

However, it is best if you limit or avoid alcohol intake for a few days. Excessive alcohol intake can suppress your immune system, and reduce vaccine efficacy.

Exercise Or Not?

You may see health authorities advising against strenuous exercise after your vaccination. There are a few reasons :

  • A precautionary measure for adolescents and young adults (below 30 years of age) who received the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, as there is a very small risk that they may get myocarditis / pericarditis.
  • To avoid accidents if people start feeling side effects like headache or fever while exercising.
  • To avoid people conflating post-exercise pain and reporting it as post-vaccination side effect.

Take it easy for a few days, and then start with light exercises. Listen to your body, and look out for chest pain or breathing difficulties.

Even if you are feeling fine, take the time to slowly ramp up your exercise over the next few days, as a precaution.

Continue COVID-19 Precautions!

You must continue to take COVID-19 precautions in public, like wear a face mask and a face shield, and maintaining physical distance in public, because :

  • you will not receive maximum protection until 2-3 weeks after your booster dose.
  • vaccines cannot protect you 100% against COVID-19, so there is a small risk of breakthrough infections.
  • new variants like the Delta variant are partially resistant to vaccines.

Report Side Effects

You can expect some mild side effects over the next day or two, like fever, muscle ache and possibly headache.

You should not worry about them – they are evidence of your immune system learning to fight against COVID-19.

You can take painkillers if you need to, but try to use paracetamol / acetaminophen instead of NSAIDS like ibuprofen and aspirin.

Make sure you report any serious side effects you may encounter, and seek medical attention at the nearest clinic or hospital.
