This is what NVIDIA says about RTX gaming on Cyberpunk 2077 :

The minimum GPU for Ray Tracing, at 1920×1080, is the GeForce RTX 2060. Gamers will explore Night City with Medium Ray Tracing Preset powered by DLSS.

AMD RDNA 2 Architecture : Tech Highlights!

The AMD Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards are built on the new AMD RDNA 2 architecture, which features an enhanced Compute Unit, a new visual pipeline with Ray Accelerators, and the new AMD Infinity Cache.

AMD Infinity Cache

The AMD Infinity Cache is a new and very large 128 MB data cache. Think of it as an L3 cache for the GPU.

AMD added it to dramatically increase memory bandwidth, which reducing memory latency and power consumption.

They claim it delivers up to 3.25X the bandwidth of the 256-bit GDDR6 memory, and up to 2.4X more effective bandwidth per watt.

New Ray Accelerator

RDNA 2 introduces a new Ray Accelerator – one for each Compute Unit.

The Ray Accelerator is a fixed-function ray tracing acceleration engine to deliver real-time lighting, shadow and reflection realism through DirectX Raytracing (DXR).

It will calculate the intersections of the rays with the scene geometry as represented in a Bounding Volume Hierarchy, sort them, and return the information to the shaders for further scene traversal or result shading.

Each Ray Accelerator can calculate up to 4 rays per box intersections or 1 ray per triangle intersection per clock cycle.

Variable Rate Shading

Variable rate shading allows the GPU to better use its limited processing capability by focusing on the most important parts of the frame.

AMD RDNA 2 has variable rate shading built throughout the entire pixel pipeline, with 1 x 1, 2 x 1, 1 x 2 and 2x 2 shading rates.

RDNA 2 also allows for very fine granularity – a different shading rate can to be selected for every 8 x 8 pixels region.

Hardware Decoding + Encoding

RDNA. 2 also introduces support for hardware 8K and AV1 decoding, allowing you to stream and watch video with virtually no performance impact.

AMD CDNA Architecture : Tech Highlights!

In addition to the gaming-centric RDNA architecture, AMD just introduced a new CDNA architecture that is optimised for compute workloads.

Here are some key tech highlights of the new AMD CDNA architecture!

 

AMD CDNA Architecture : What Is It?

Unlike the fixed-function graphics accelerators of the past, GPUs are now fully-programmable accelerators using what’s called the GPGPU (General Purpose GPU) Architecture.

GPGPU allowed the industry to leverage their tremendous processing power for machine learning and scientific computing purposes.

Instead of continuing down the GPGPU path, AMD has decided to introduce two architectures :

  • AMD RDNA : optimised for gaming to maximise frames per second
  • AMD CDNA : optimised for compute workloads to maximise FLOPS per second.

Designed to accelerate compute workloads, AMD CDNA augments scalar and vector processing with new Matrix Core Engines, and adds Infinity Fabric technology for scale-up capability.

This allows the first CDNA-based accelerator – AMD Instinct MI100 – to break the 10 TFLOPS per second (FP64) barrier.

The GPU is connected to its host processor using a PCI Express 4.0 interface, that delivers up to 32 GB/s of bandwidth in both directions.

 

AMD CDNA Architecture : Compute Units

The command processor and scheduling logic receives API-level commands and translates them into compute tasks.

These compute tasks are implemented as compute arrays and managed by the four Asynchronous Compute Engines (ACE), which maintain their independent stream of commands to the compute units.

Its 120 compute units (CUs) are derived from the earlier GCN architecture, and organised into four compute engines that execute wavefronts that contain 64 work-items.

The CUs are, however, enhanced with new Matrix Core Engines, that are optimised for matrix data processing.

Here is the block diagram of the AMD Instinct MI100 accelerator, showing how its main blocks are all tied together with the on-die Infinity Fabric.

Unlike the RDNA architecture, CDNA removes all of the fixed-function graphics hardware for tasks like rasterisation, tessellation, graphics caches, blending and even the display engine.

CDNA retains the dedicated logic for HEVC, H.264 and VP9 decoding that is sometimes used for compute workloads that operate on multimedia data.

The new Matrix Core Engines add a new family of wavefront-level instructions – the Matrix Fused Multiply-Add (MFMA). The MFMA instructions perform mixed-precision arithmetic and operates on KxN matrices using four different types of input data :

  • INT8 – 8-bit integers
  • FP16 – 16-bit half-precision
  • bf16 – 16-bit brain FP
  • FP32 – 32-bit single-precision

The new Matrix Core Engines has several advantages over the traditional vector pipelines in GCN :

  • the execution unit reduces the number of register file reads, since many input values are reused in a matrix multiplication
  • narrower datatypes create opportunity for workloads that do not require full FP32 precision, e.g. machine learning – saving energy.

 

AMD CDNA Architecture : L2 Cache + Memory

Most scientific and machine learning data sets are gigabytes or even terabytes in size. Therefore L2 cache and memory performance is critical.

In CDNA, the L2 cache is shared across the entire chip, and physically partitioned into multiple slices.

The MI100, specifically, has an 8 MB cache that is 16-way set-associative and made up of 32 slices. Each slice can sustain 128 bytes for an aggregate bandwidth of over 6 TB/s across the GPU.

The CDNA memory controller can drive 4- or 8-stacks high of HBM2 memory at 2.4 GT/s for a maximum throughput of 1.23 TB/s.

The memory contents are also protected by hardware ECC.

 

AMD CDNA Architecture : Communication + Scaling

CDNA is also designed for scaling up, using the high-speed Infinity Fabric technology to connect multiple GPUs.

AMD Infinity Fabric links are 16-bits wide, and operate at 23 GT/s, with three links in CDNA to allow for full connectivity in a quad-GPU configuration.

While the last generation Radeon Instinct MI50 GPU only uses a ring topology, the new fully-connected Infinity Fabric topology boosts performance for common communication patterns like all-reduce and scatter / gather.

Unlike PCI Express, Infinity Fabric links support coherent GPU memory, which lets multiple GPUs share an address space and tightly work on a single task.

Senior Minister for Security Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri Yaacob just issued an updated MySejahtera SOP for petrol stations.

Scan MySejahtera At Petrol Stations, Or Get Fined RM1K?

While CPRC (Crisis Preparedness and Respose Centre) from the Ministry of Health has said that it is not necessary to scan MySejahtera at petrol stations, the police insist that it is mandatory.

In fact, Bukit Aman CID Deputy Director DCP Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid confirmed that you must register MySejahtera at the petrol station, even if you do not enter the convenience store!

Malaysians were thoroughly confused by two competing narratives, and a slew of news reports that flip-flopped on the issue.

 

Latest MySejahtera SOP For Petrol Stations : To Scan Or Not?

At around 6 PM on 10 November 2020, Senior Minister for Security Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri, issued an updated SOP on the use of MySejahtera in petrol stations in this press conference.

Here is a summary of the updated MySejahtera SOP for petrol stations :

MUST Scan MySejahtera / Register Manually

  • Making payments or purchases inside the petrol station’s convenience store.
  • Using the ATM machine inside the petrol station’s convenience store.
  • Using the petrol station’s toilet or surau.
  • Sending your car to the petrol station’s workshop.
  • Sending your car for a manual car wash.

DO NOT Need To Scan MySejahtera / Register Manually

  • Self-serving at the pump, and paying using their credit or debit cards or online app.
  • Paying the cashier through the pigeonhole.
  • Self-inflating your own tyres.
  • Using the auto car wash, unless you are paying inside the petrol station’s convenience store.

MySejahtera : Why Use It At Petrol Stations?

MySejahtera is a mobile app developed by the Malaysian government. It serves as a contact tracing tool, as well as a way to disseminate verified information on COVID-19 in Malaysia.

Its users can log their movements by quickly and simply scanning a QR code at public places. This is a safer option to signing a logbook, because you won’t need to touch the logbook or use a shared pen.

Even though petrol pumps in Malaysia are generally self-served, petrol stations are high traffic public areas with pump attendants and employees, as well as other customers, who may be infected.

Registering your visit with MySejahtera at the petrol station will allow the authorities to quickly and accurately perform contact tracing if any infected person was at the petrol station.

Here is the official MKN SOP on what’s allowed and what’s not allowed during the CMCO / PKPB lockdown of Peninsular Malaysia!

 

Peninsular Malaysia : CMCO / PKPB Lockdown Until 6 December!

With record highs in COVID-19 cases, the Malaysian National Security Council announced a 4-week CMCO / PKPB lockdown of KL, Putrajaya, and all states in Peninsular Malaysia, except for Perlis, Pahang and Kelantan.

  • North : Kedah, Penang, Perak
  • East : Terengganu
  • Central : Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya
  • South : Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor

This expansive CMCO / PKPB lockdown will start at 12:01 AM on 9 November 2020 and end on 6 December 2020.

 

Peninsular Malaysia : Official CMCO / PKPB SOP!

Here is the confirmed MKN SOP on what’s allowed and what’s not allowed during the CMCO / PKPB lockdown of Peninsular Malaysia :

GENERAL

  • Only two persons from each household are allowed to go out to purchase food supplies or daily necessities.
  • Only two persons from each household are allowed to dine-in at any restaurant / cafe.
  • High risk individuals and children are not encouraged to go out.
  • No one is allowed to enter or leave the areas under CMCO lockdown.
  • Interstate travel is forbidden, except for work, economic or industrial purposes.
  • Emergency cases and accidents requiring medical treatment are allowed to travel without police permission.
  • Those with medical appointments are allowed to travel, by showing the referral letter or appointment card.
  • Funerals outside of CMCO areas are allowed, with police permission.
  • Workers will need a valid work pass or letter of permission from their employers to get past state and district roadblocks.
  • Employers must let their employees work from home, unless they are essential to business continuity.
  • Individuals who intend to travel by air must obtain prior permission from the police before they head to the airport.
  • Residents of CMCO areas are allowed to return from outstation, with the permission of the police.
  • Travel through the CMCO areas to non-CMCO areas are allowed, with permission from the nearest police station.

ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES

  • All business, economic and industrial activity can proceed as usual.
  • Businesses must ensure that customers are physically distanced by 1 meter while entering or leaving their premises.
  • Businesses must limit the number of customers within their premise, and publicly display the maximum number of customers allowed inside.
  • Supermarkets, shopping malls and retail stores are allowed, between 6 AM and 12 AM.
  • Restaurants, food stores, food trucks, hawkers, food courts, food stalls, food kiosks, groceries and convenience stores are allowed to open from 6 AM until 12 AM.
  • Dine-in is allowed but limited to 2 persons per small table or 4 persons per large table, but must follow the Food Sector SOP. There should be 1 meter distance between every person.
    Only in Selangor : 5 persons per large table meant for 10 people.
    * Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari announced the change on 16 October 2020.
  • Food deliveries, drive-through purchases and food take-aways are encouraged.
  • Daily markets are allowed to open from 6 AM until 2 PM.
  • Wholesale markets are allowed to open from 12 AM until 5 PM.
  • Farmer’s markets are allowed to open from 6 AM until 12 PM.
  • Night markets are allowed to open from 4 PM until 12 AM.
  • Petrol stations are allowed to open from 6 AM until 12 AM, except for those on highways – they can open 24 hours
  • Laundry services are allowed between 6 AM and 12 AM.
  • All other permitted businesses are allowed to operate between 6 AM and 12 AM.
  • Public buses, express buses, MRT, LRT, ERL, Monorail, taxi and e-hailing services are allowed to operate.
  • Taxis and e-hailing vehicles are limited to 2 passengers, and allowed to operate from 6 AM until 12 midnight.
  • Food deliveries are allowed to operate from 6 AM until 12 midnight.
  • All transportation and delivery vehicles involved in industry, business, and manufacturing are allowed to continue as normal, including cross-district and cross-state travel.

HEALTHCARE

  • Public and private clinics and hospitals are allowed to open 24 hours.
  • Pharmacies and drugstores are allowed to open from 8 AM until 11 PM.

FISHING, FARMING, PLANTATION INDUSTRIES

  • The fishing, farming, plantation, livestock and related food chain industries are allowed to operate.

PORTS + AIRPORTS

  • All ports and airport services are allowed to operate.
  • Individuals who intend to travel by air must obtain prior permission from the police before heading to the airport.

RELIGIOUS ACTIVITIES

  • Religious activities in mosques and suraus are allowed with limits to the number of participants, according to the state authorities
  • Religious activities in other houses of worship are allowed with limited to the number of participants, according to MKN / MOH / state or federal authorities.
  • Akad nikah ceremonies are allowed with a maximum limit of 30 people, based on the area and physical distancing, or as set by the state religious authorities.
  • Wedding registration ceremonies for non-Muslims are allowed with a maximum limit of 30 people, based on the area and physical distancing.

ENTERTAINMENT, RECREATION + CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

  • Entertainment centres, pubs and night clubs are forbidden to open.
  • Theme parks, indoor playgrounds and cinemas are forbidden to open.

CREATIVE INDUSTRY

  • Recording activities for music, concerts, filming, interviews, and so on are allowed both in studios and outdoors, limited to CMCO areas with limited crew and no audience, according to the SOP.
  • Live event activities are permitted without an audience, with limited crew set by MOH.
  • Busking activities in indoor locations are allowed, based on time limits and limited number of audience, as set by MOH.
  • All other activities NOT listed in the Negative List are permitted, based on the existing SOP.

SPORTS + RECREATION

  • Individual sporting activities and non-contact recreation or those performed individually and not involving more than 10 people, like walking, jogging, cycling, aerobics, hiking, fishing, and so on are permitted.
  • Picnics, swimming pool activities and contact sports are forbidden.
  • Certain commercial sports facilities – gyms, football fields, futsal courts, badminton halls – are allowed to open from 6 AM until 10 PM, starting 19 October 2020.
  • Commercial field and futsal facilities are limited to training activities that do not involve physical contact and limited to up to 10 people at any one time.
  • Sporting events and competitions with spectators and/or with participants from other states are forbidden.
  • Training programs by the National Sports Council and state sports councils can continue according to a Quarantine Based Approach.

EDUCATION

  • All public and private schools, institutions of higher learning, vocational training institutes, kindergartens, day care centres, tahfiz centres, public parks and recreation centres must close.
  • Only nurseries and childcare centres with permission to remain open for frontliners and working parents can remain open.
  • Students who are undergoing exams are permitted to continue taking their exams.

SEMINARS / WORKSHOPS / CONFERENCES

  • All seminars, workshops, courses, training, conferences, lectures and MICE (Meeting, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions) are forbidden.
  • Face to face meetings are discouraged, and should be held through video conferencing, with these exceptions :
    – face-to-face meetings involving expatriate and C Suite with physical distancing and face masks
    – internal meetings according to JPA circulars and MITI guidelines

CELEBRATIONS

  • Official and unofficial government and private ceremonies, and social events like weddings, banquets, engagement parties, aqiqah ceremonies, tahlil, birthdays, anniversary parties, reunions are forbidden.

TOURISM

  • All domestic tourism activities that cross into or out of the CMCO areas are forbidden.
  • Tour companies are allowed to operate, based on existing SOP.
  • Hotels are allowed to provide accommodation.
  • Restaurants, including F&B outlets and lounges are allowed. Dine-in is limited to 2 persons per table. Room service, take-aways and food delivery are encouraged.
  • Swimming pool, gym, seminar rooms, halls are not allowed to operate.

 

COVID-19 : How To Keep Safe!

Here are a few simple steps to stay safe :

  • Avoid suspected cases or disease hotpots, like hospitals, if possible!
  • Avoid public events and crowds
  • Keep our hands clean with soap or hand sanitiser
  • Keep our homes, offices, vehicles, etc. clean
  • If you need to wear a surgical mask, make sure you put it on and remove it properly!
  • Wash your food with water (and soap) after purchase and before preparation

Face Mask : Effectiveness Of Each Type

There are many kinds of face masks in the market, but we are going to focus on the three main ones that are easy for you to get :

Some Effectiveness : Fashion Or Pitta Mask

  • usually made from cotton or (better) polyurethane, without any specific protection rating
  • includes home-made cotton masks recommended by the CDC and the Czechs in this category

Moderately Effective : 3-Ply Surgical Face Mask

  • usually rated with bacterial filtration efficiency of >99% at 5 microns, and >95% at 3 microns
  • has outer hydrophobic layer, which repels water, blood and body fluids,
  • and a middle filter layer that is designed to filter bacteria, and finally,
  • an inner hydrophilic layer, which absorbs water, sweat and spit

Highly Effective : N95 Respirator

  • has a particle filtration efficiency of >95% at 0.3 microns
  • must be properly fitted with a very close facial fit

In this article, we are going to focus on the 3-ply surgical face mask, which is the most common type of face mask used in China and most of Asia, to protect against SARS and now, the COVID-19 coronavirus.

How To Wear A Pitta / Fashion Face Mask Correctly

Here are some step-by-step instructions for wearing a pitta / fashion face mask correctly :

  1. Clean your hands with soap and water, or hand sanitiser, before touching the mask
  2. Hold the mask by its ear loops and bring it to your face.
  3. Place a loop around each ear, and tighten them to ensure a close fit.
  4. Adjust the mask to make sure it covers your nose as high up as possible, while also covering your chin.
  5. If your face mask has a nose strip, mould or pinch it to conform to the shape of your nose.

How To Remove A Pitta / Fashion Face Mask Correctly

After use, the mask will be dirty and contaminated and must be removed and washed.

So please follow these instructions, to avoid infecting yourself while removing your face mask :

  1. Clean your hands with soap and water, or hand sanitiser, before touching the mask.
  2. AVOID touching the front of the mask, because it is contaminated. Only touch the ear loops.
  3. Hold and unhook both ear loops and gently lift the mask away from your face.
  4. Immediately wash the pitta / fashion face mask with soap and water. Make sure you scrub it for at least 30 seconds with soap before rinsing it off.
  5. Clean your hands with soap and water, or hand sanitiser again, before touching anything else.

 

How To Wear A Surgical Face Mask Correctly

Here are some step-by-step instructions for wearing a surgical mask correctly :

  1. Clean your hands with soap and water, or hand sanitiser, before touching the mask
  2. Hold the mask with the stiff bendable strip on top, and the coloured side facing outwards.
  3. If the surgical mask has ear loops – hold the mask by the ear loops, and place a loop around each ear.
  4. If the surgical mask has ties – bring the mask to your nose and place the ties over the crown of your head, and secure by tying them in a bow.
  5. If the surgical mask has elastic bands – bring the mask to your nose and pull the top band over your head and let it rest on the crown of your head, and then pull the bottom strap over your head and let it rest on the nape of your neck.
  6. Mould or pinch the nose strip to conform to the shape of your nose.
  7. Pull the bottom of the surgical mask under your mouth and chin.

How To Remove A Surgical Face Mask Correctly

After use, the surgical mask will be dirty and contaminated and must be removed and disposed of properly.

So please follow these instructions, to avoid infecting yourself while removing your face mask :

  7. Clean your hands with soap and water, or hand sanitiser again, before touching anything else.

We set up this scene, placing a dim and indirect light source at a distance on the right side. Perceptually, the picture on the left is close to what we see with our naked eye.

Without Night Mode, the scene is much darker.

Ice Bear appears a little blur and you can barely make out Grizzly’s right hand. The Minion’s hand being bitten by the crab is hardly visible too.

Darth Minion is the worst case scenario – you can’t even make out his shape, just white eyes and belt buckle.

But once you turn on Night Mode, look at how much brighter it looks!

Not only can you see Darth Minion clearly, you can even see the texture of the surface they are standing on clearly.

Ice Bear is sharper, and Grizzly’s right hand is now clearly seen. Even the Minion’s hand being bitten by the red crab is clearly visible.

AMD Zen 3 Architecture

Codename Vermeer, Zen 3 is the next evolution of the AMD Zen architecture.

While it obviously borrowed considerably from the existing Zen 2 architecture, AMD says it is a ground-up redesign that with major performance and functionality improvements in every area of the core.

These architectural changes allow Zen 3-based processors, like the Ryzen 5000 series, to deliver a 19% improvement in instructions per clock (IPC).

Front-End Enhancements

  • Unify all cores in a CCD into a single unified complex consisting of 4, 6, or 8 contiguous cores
  • Unify all L3 cache in a CCD into a single contiguous element of up to 32 MB
  • Rearchitect core/cache communication into a ring system

 

AMD Zen 3 SoC Design

In addition to micro architectural improvements, Zen 3 (Vermeer) also features SoC design changes.

In Zen 2, each CCD (Compute Die) is made up of two CCX (core complexes), each with a 16 MB L3 cache.

Zen 3 uses a unified complex, in which each CCD now contains a single CCX with a unified 32 MB L3 cache.

This unified CCD design completely eliminates CCX-to-CCX communication, greatly improving core-to-core latency.

On the other hand, AMD reused the chiplet design, with one or two CCDs (fabricated on 7 nm) paired with a 12 nm IOD (I/O Die).

Reads from CCD to IO are still 2X write, to conserve die area and transistor budget. And it uses the same IOD from Matisse (Zen 2).

 

AMD Zen 3 Transistor Count + Die Size

The new Zen 3 CCD has 4.15 billion transistors, with a die size of 80.7 mm². That’s up from the 3.8 billion transistors and a die size of 74 mm² for the Zen 2 CCD.

The Matisse-era IOD remains the same – 2.09 billion transistors, with a die size of 125 mm².

They will both be manufactured using the same 7 nm TSMC process for CCD, and 12 nm Global Foundries process for IOD.

AMD Zen 3 Precision Boost : No Change

Precision Boost 2 in Zen 3 remains the same as that of Zen 2, just with higher frequencies to “play with”.

It is an opportunistic boost algorithm that drives the loaded cores to the highest possible frequency, until it hits any one of these limits :

  • socket power
  • VRM thermal limit
  • VRM current limit
  • maximum clock speed

Precision Boost 2 will dynamically analyse and boost or dither the core clock speeds every 1 ms using the Infinity Fabric command and control functions.

In this example of the new Ryzen 9 5900X with a base clock of 3.7 GHz and a boost clock of 4.8 GHz, Precision Boost 2 will typically result in frequencies of 4.4 GHz to 4.6 GHz, even with 24 threads running at the same time.

 

AMD Zen 3 Voltage Range : No Change

Despite the changes in the microarchitecture and SoC design, Zen 3 processors will continue to be engineered with the same voltage range as Zen- and Zen 2-based processors.

The typical voltage range will vary according to usage, but basically, Zen 3 processors, like the Ryzen 5000 series, will support 0.2 V to 1.5 V.

 

AMD Zen 3 Temperature Range : No Change

AMD Zen 3-based processors will also have the same temperature ranges as Zen- and Zen 2-based processors.

Note : The temperature range below assumes an enclosed chassis, and an air-conditioned room.

 

AMD Zen 3 Memory Overclocking : No Change

Only the Zen 3 core chiplet die (CCD) is new in the Ryzen 5000 series processors. They continue to use the same IO die (IOD) as the 3rd Gen Ryzen processors.

Therefore, the relationship between Infinity Fabric Clock (fclk), Memory Controller Clock (uclk) and Memory Clock (mclk) remains the same.

For optimal performance, they are synchronous – in a 1:1:1 ratio. But users can choose a 1:1:2 ratio if they have trouble overclocking memory.

Google Play Music Is Dead : Whaaaaat???

On 4 April 2020, Google dropped the bombshell – they announced that they were replacing Google Play Music play with YouTube Music by December 2020.

They would kill off Google Play Music starting September 2020 in New Zealand and South Africa, and October 2020 for the rest of the world.

Users will no longer be allowed to stream from, or use the Google Play Music app from that point onwards. They will only be allowed to transfer their music libraries to YouTube Music.

Even that migration offer is limited to December 2020, after which the Google Play Music libraries will be deleted and will no longer be available to download or transfer to YouTube Music.

 

Google Play Music Is Dead : Download Your Music Now!

Google offers the option to migrate your Google Play Music libraries and playlists to YouTube Music, but you may not want to do that for these reasons :

  • 128 kbps quality limit for free subscriptions
  • you can’t upload your own music through the app, only using an Internet browser
  • offline playback of your own music requires you to upload and then download the same music

Before deciding what to do next, the first thing you should do is download your music library.

You have until the end of December 2020 to download your music, so do it now!

  1. Open Google Play Music.
  2. Tap on Manage Your Data.
  3. Tap on Download your music library.

  1. Leave Google Play Music checked.
  2. Select to export once.
  3. Select the more common .zip file format, or the .tgz alternative
  4. Select the maximum file size you prefer – 1 GB, 2 GB, 4 GB, 10 GB or 50 GB.
    Google will split your files into multiple compressed files based on the maximum size you selected.
    Newer operating systems (Windows 10, macOS) can support files larger than 4 GB.

  1. Tap Create export and let Google archive and compress your music library.
  2. You will receive an email with a download link when it’s done.

Interstate Travel SOP For CMCO Areas In Peninsular Malaysia

Here is the interstate travel SOP for those who need to travel into, out of, or through CMCO areas in Peninsular Malaysia!

 

Peninsular Malaysia CMCO : Interstate Travel SOP

The Royal Malaysia Police recently issued the SOP for cross-state travel during the CMCO / PKPB lockdown in KL, Selangor and Putrajaya.

As announced by the Senior Minister (Security) and Defence Minister, Dato Sri Ismail Yaakob, there are FOUR (4) categories of travellers that will be permitted to undertake interstate travel.

  1. Residents of CMCO areas who need to travel to other states for emergency reasons (medical treatments and funerals) only
  2. Travellers who need to cross the CMCO areas for emergency reasons.
  3. Outstation travellers who wish to enter the CMCO areas for emergency reasons.
  4. Individuals who wish to access air transportation at KLIA, KLIA 2 and Subang Airport.

Travellers in those four categories need to fill in this form for the CMCO / PKPB Travel Permit (Permit Pergerakan Perintah Kawalan Pergerakan Bersyarat) :

After filling the form, travellers must submit it to the nearest police station for their approval, BEFORE they begin their journey.

Please note that ONLY TWO PERSONS are allowed to travel together.

Workers are allowed to cross into other districts or states, as long as they have a work pass or permission letter from their employer.

 

Peninsular Malaysia CMCO : Interstate Travel Examples

The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) listed two examples of permitted cross-state travel :

Category 2

An individual from Johor travelling to Penang wishes to cross Selangor for emergency reasons. He/she must fill in the form and send it to the nearest police station in Johor for approval, before making the journey.

Category 3

An individual from Melaka would like to enter Putrajaya for emergency reasons. He/she must fill in the form and send it to the nearest police station in Melaka for approval, before making the journey.

 

Peninsular Malaysia CMCO : Interstate Travel FAQ

Who Needs A Travel Permit?

Only those who need to enter, exit or pass through Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Putrajaya for emergency reasons must obtain a CMCO / PKPB travel permit.

Workers who need to enter or exit Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Putrajaya for work reasons do NOT need to fill in the form. They only need to show their work pass / permission letter from their employers.

How Many People Can Travel Together?

Under this CMCO / PKPB travel permit, a maximum of two persons can travel together.

What If You Don’t Forgot The Permit?

If you forgot to obtain a permit prior to your travel, or forgot to take it with you, you can stop by a nearby police station to fill in a new form and obtain approval before crossing the CMCO / PKPB roadblocks.

 

COVID-19 : How To Keep Safe!

Here are a few simple steps to stay safe :

  • Avoid suspected cases or disease hotpots, like hospitals, if possible!
  • Avoid public events and crowds
  • Keep our hands clean with soap or hand sanitiser
  • Keep our homes, offices, vehicles, etc. clean
  • If you need to wear a surgical mask, make sure you put it on and remove it properly!
  • Wash your food with water (and soap) after purchase and before preparation

The end is almost here – Samsung Cloud will soon be gone, replaced by Microsoft OneDrive!

Here is what you need to know about Samsung Cloud’s shutdown process, and what you need to do.

 

Samsung Cloud Termination : What You Need To Know!

It is official. Samsung Cloud will be replaced by Microsoft OneDrive, and it starts with the termination of its Gallery Sync and Drive services.

Samsung Cloud users have all been notified about this move, and if you haven’t seen the notice yet, check your email spam folder.

Phase 1 : Limited Service

Depending on where you live, you will have until March 2021 (Group 1) or May 2021 (Group 2) to migrate your data to Microsoft OneDrive.

You can choose to download your data, or migrate to OneDrive.

  • If you choose to download your data, it will be completely deleted from Samsung Cloud 90 days after that.
  • If you select to migrate to OneDrive, your data stored in Samsung Cloud will be transferred to OneDrive, and deleted.

Phase 2 : Service Discontinued

From 1 April 2021 (Group 1) or 1 June 2021 (Group 2) onwards, Gallery Sync and Drive services will be disabled, and premium subscriptions automatically cancelled.

The OneDrive migration option will no longer be available, but you will still be allowed to download your data.

Phase 3 : Data Deleted

Samsung will give you until 29 June 2021 (Group 1) or 30 August 2021 (Group 2) to download your data, after which everything is deleted.

 

Samsung Cloud to Microsoft OneDrive Migration

You will receive a OneDrive integration notification in Gallery, My Files or the Samsung Cloud app, and opt to begin the process.

Alternatively, you can choose to begin the migration process through these apps :

  • Samsung Cloud app : More > Settings > Link with OneDrive
  • Gallery app : More > Settings > Cloud Sync or Switch to OneDrive
  • My Files app : More > Settings > Make the Switch to OneDrive

Once you start the process, follow these instructions :

  1. Tap Move to OneDrive
  2. Check “I agree to Samsung Cloud Service Changes”
  3. Tap Connect
  4. Tap Connect accounts and sign into your Microsoft OneDrive account
  5. Let the data sync finish and then tap Done

 

Download Data From Samsung Cloud

You can download your Samsung Cloud data through the Download my data menu :

  • Samsung Cloud app : Download my data
  • Gallery : More > Settings > Download content from cloud

Once you start the process, you will have 90 days before the data is deleted completely in Samsung Cloud :

  1. Tap Download my data
  2. Select the data you want to download
  3. Tap Download
  4. Let the download process complete

You can check the download process in the notification bar. But note that if you choose to cancel, it will cancel the entire download process, and you will have to start afresh.

Should YOU wear a face mask to protect yourself against COVID-19?

Some politicians insist it is useless. Some health authorities advise us to wear it only if you are sick. Others demand you wear one in public at all times.

What really is the evidence for, or against, wearing a face mask to protect against COVID-19?

This story was originally posted in April 2020, and has been updated due to second / third waves affecting many countries.

 

Face Mask : What Kind Do You Have?

When people say face mask, they generally mean the 3-ply surgical mask, although some may be talking about fashion masks, or even the N95 respirator.

Fashion masks are usually made from washable cotton and are reusable, but they often lack a filter. The N95 respirator, on the other hand, is designed to filter 95% of particles with a median diameter of 0.3 microns.

For the purpose of this article, we are going to talk exclusively about the 3-ply surgical / medical mask, which has three layers – each with very specific functions :

  • an outer hydrophobic layer, which repels water, blood and body fluids,
  • a middle filter layer that is designed to filter bacteria, and
  • an inner hydrophilic layer, which absorbs water, sweat and spit

The 3-ply surgical mask is the most common type of face mask used in China and most of Asia, to protect against SARS and now, COVID-19.

 

Is The Face Mask Effective Against COVID-19?

Now, to be clear – studies are still underway to determine if the humble 3-ply face mask is effective against COVID-19. But here is what we know so far…

COVID-19 Is Generally NOT Airborne

First, we should understand that COVID-19 is generally not airborne, and primarily spreads by droplets, which are significantly larger than the virus itself and fall within 1-2 meters.

COVID-19 droplets can, therefore, be blocked by 3-ply masks or N95 respirators even though the virus itself is smaller than the filter holes!

Face Masks Prevent Face Touching

You can get infected by COVID-19 if you touch your face after touching a contaminated surface with your hand. Hand washing can prevent that, but people often forget to do it, and it is human nature to touch our own faces.

Wearing a face mask helps to prevent face touching, so even if we forget to wash our hands, there is less risk of infecting ourselves with COVID-19.

Face Masks Worked In Asia + Czech Republic

The evidence is strong in many Asian countries, including China, as well as the Czech Republic, that face masks are effective in preventing the spread of COVID-19.

The Czechs are so enthusiastic about their experience, they created this video to spread word that face masks work, even if they are not 3-ply!

Many Asian countries, including China, Singapore and Malaysia, require their citizens to wear one whenever they leave the house.

The Asian and Czech experiences are backed up by a CDC-sponsored study, which showed that surgical masks are as effective as N95 respirators in preventing influenza infections amongst healthcare workers.

This study is important because influenza is a similarly-sized respiratory virus that spreads by droplets too. So it makes sense that face masks would be similarly effective against COVID-19.

 

Why Did WHO / CDC Recommend Against Wearing Face Masks?

Certain health authorities like the WHO or CDC recommended against wearing face masks to protect against COVID-19, because they feared that :

There is also the consideration that when there is limited supply, 3-ply face masks and N95 respirators should be reserved for healthcare workers who have much greater need of them.

Should You Wear A Face Mask To Protect Against COVID-19?

That depends.

No Community Spread

If there is no community spread of COVID-19 in your country, there is NO NEED to wear a face mask.

As long as health authorities can quickly trace and isolate contacts for testing, the virus is “not in the wild”, and you are very unlikely to be infected.

Keep your face masks in reserve. Using them now could mean you run out of face masks when you actually need them.

There Is Community Spread

Once there is community spread, all bets are off. The COVID-19 coronavirus is problematic because patients are contagious long before they show symptoms.

ANYONE can be COVID-19 positive, even if they don’t have symptoms. That includes you and your family, not just strangers you meet on the street.

To protect everyone, this is the time to start wearing a face mask.

In fact, everyone should be forced to wear a face mask, because it would help prevent asymptomatic / presymptomatic persons from spreading the coronavirus.

During Home Quarantine

One way to reduce the need for face masks is a home quarantine / restricted movement / lockdown.

You do NOT need to wear a face mask while you are sheltering at home with your family.

You only need to wear a face mask during the limited occasions you leave your home to purchase food and other essential supplies.

And you should certainly wear a face mask while accepting food deliveries or parcels from a delivery person.

 

Don’t Rely Solely On Your Face Mask Against COVID-19!

Now, opinions are definitely shifting towards the widespread adoption of face masks to protect against COVID-19. However, it is important to note that a face mask alone cannot protect you from COVID-19.

You still need to adopt safe practices that health authorities have been advocating to prevent COVID-19 :

  • Avoid suspected cases or disease hotpots, like hospitals, if possible!
  • Avoid public events and crowds
  • Keep our hands clean with soap or hand sanitiser
  • Keep our homes, offices, vehicles, etc. clean
  • If you need to wear a surgical mask, make sure you put it on and remove it properly!
  • Wash your food with water (and soap) after purchase and before preparation

The Galaxy Note20 comes with 8 GB of memory, while the Note20 Ultra 5G comes with 12 GB of memory.

They both come with 256 GB of internal storage, but the Note20 Ultra 5G supports the addition of a microSD card for up to 1 TB of additional storage.

More importantly, this is the latest LPDDR5 memory, which is not only 1.5 times faster but also uses 20% less power, compared to LPDDR4X.

They both come with a new triple camera system in the rear, but with different cameras.

The Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G not only comes with a 108 MP main camera, it has a 5X optical zoom camera.

The Galaxy Note20, on the other hand, has a higher resolution 64 MP telephoto camera, with 3X Hybrid Optic Zoom.

The New S Pen

Both devices come with the new S Pen, which supports Air Actions and comes with a new lithium titanate battery that gives it 24 hours of standby time.

There is a difference that many people may not realise. The Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G’s S Pen has an ultra-low latency of just 9 ms, while the S Pen for the Galaxy Note20 has a 26 ms latency.

The almost-instantaneous response time will give you the feel of working with an actual pen or pencil – an experience that artists will greatly appreciate.

Battery Capacities

The Galaxy Note20 has a 4,300 mAh battery, while the Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G comes with a slightly larger 4,500 mAh battery.

For those who are too lazy to drill down into the results, here’s a quick and dirty summary.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus is definitely the superior mobile platform.

In most benchmarks, it was significantly faster than both the Samsung Exynos 990 and the HUAWEI Kirin 990.

You are unlikely to notice the small 6% performance difference between the Snapdragon 865+ and the Exynos 990.

However, the 21% performance deficit of the HUAWEI Kirin 990 versus the Snapdragon 865+ will be noticeable. So will its 14% performance deficit against the Exynos 990.

Even if TSMC was allowed to continue making Kirin 990 for HUAWEI, it is no longer a competitive flagship mobile platform.

Snapdragon vs Exynos vs Kirin : 3DMark Sling Shot Extreme

We tested them using the Sling Shot Extreme test in 3DMark, using both Vulkan and OpenGL ES 3.1 graphics API.

Vulkan is a newer graphics API, with much lower overhead, and can therefore deliver better performance than OpenGL ES which is supported by more games.

3DMark rendered the game at the 2560 x 1440 resolution, allowing for a fair comparison irrespective of the devices’ actual display resolution.

WD NAS Can’t Be Seen In Windows? Here Are The Solutions!

You may be wondering why your WD NAS is no longer visible in Windows 10.

Where did it go? How do you get it back?

Find out why your WD NAS cannot no longer be seen in Windows, and what are the solutions!

 

WD NAS Can’t Be Seen In Windows : What Happened?

You may have been using your WD NAS for some time, but one day, its network share – the “drive” that you directly access – can no longer be seen in Windows 10.

The NAS links in Windows File Explorer will only lead you to the login page for the WD NAS management page, not the actual drive where you can directly read, copy, write or edit your files.

All these NAS issues are happening because Microsoft disabled the Network Browse function from Windows 10 v1709 onwards.

The problems started after Windows 10 Fall Creators Update 1709, which :

The Computer Browser service relies on the SMB 1.0 protocol to discover network devices and display them in the Windows Network Neighbourhood.

Disabling SMB 1.0 breaks the Computer Browser service, so it is automatically uninstalled and your NAS drives “disappear” from Network Neighbourhood.

Disabling guest access prevents guest or public access to your NAS drives, even to folders you specifically set to allow for public access. Hence, the Public folder they had access to earlier “disappears”.

 

Why Did Microsoft Disable Those Network Features?

The SMB1 network protocol was first implemented in Windows back in 1992, so it’s old… very old.

It’s so old that it lacks encryption. Everything transmitted via SMB1 can be captured and read, and even modified, by any attacker who gains access to the network.

Guest logins even on SMB2 do not support standard security features like signing and encryption. This makes them vulnerable to man-in-the-middle attacks.

That’s why Microsoft (finally) disabled them both, starting with the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update 1709.

 

WD NAS Can’t Be Seen In Windows : Before We Start…

Preliminary Step #1 : Update Your NAS

Before you do anything, you should log into your WD NAS management system and update its firmware, in case it’s not already set to automatically update.

Updating its firmware will ensure that your NAS supports at least SMB 2, if not SMB 3 as well.

Preliminary Step #2 : Use A Higher SMB Protocol

Then, enable the highest SMB protocol your WD NAS supports (Settings > Network). Set it to SMB 3 if possible.

This will ensure that both your WD NAS and your network support the most secure network protocol possible, for your security.

 

WD NAS Can’t Be Seen In Windows : The Solutions!

Best Solution : Map Your WD NAS By Device Name

The best way is to manually map your WD NAS by its device name. This lets you use the more secure SMB2 or SMB3 network protocols, with direct access to your files as usual.

  1. Determine your WD NAS network path, which is based on the device name.If you changed your WD NAS device name to TechARPCloud (for example), the network name will be \\TechARPCloudHere is a list of default network paths for different WD NAS :

  1. Open Windows File Explorer and click on Network on the left pane.
  2. Key in the network path of the WD NAS, which is based on its device name. Make sure you include \\ before the network path.

  1. You will be asked to key in a user name and password.
    This can be the administrator’s login, or the login of any registered user of your WD NAS.
    Remember – Windows 10 no longer allows guest logins or public access. So you will need to create a password-protected account even for guests to use.

  1. Once you successfully authenticate your user name and password, the network shares of your WD NAS will become visible in File Explorer under Network!You can stop here, but you will need to keep keying in the network path and login to access your NAS every time you boot into Windows.

  1. For more convenience, you can create a password-protected Private Share.Start by right-clicking on a network share from your WD NAS and select Map network drive…

  1. Select a drive letter for the network share.
    Check Reconnect at sign-in if you don’t want to automatically log into the drive.
    Then click Finish to map the drive.

That’s it! If you expand This PC in Windows File Explorer, you should now see that the WD NAS network drive has now been mapped by its device name!

 

Alternate Solution : Enable Network Discovery Without SMB1

This Windows 10 workaround can be used if your WD NAS supports SMB2 or SMB3 and you prefer not to map the network drives.

  1. Go to Windows Services.
  2. Start these two services :
    Function Discovery Provider Host
    Function Discovery Resource Publication
  3. Set the Startup type for both those services to Automatic (Delayed Start).
  4. Open Windows File Explorer and go to Network.
  5. When prompted, enable Network Discovery.

Your WD NAS shares should now be visible in Windows File Explorer.

 

Worst Case Solution : Enable Network Discovery Without SMB1

This should only be attempted if your WD NAS simply cannot support SMB2 or SMB3, and can only use SMB1.

  1. Go to Control Panel > Programs.
  2. Click on Turn Windows features on or off.
  3. Expand the SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support option.
  4. Check the SMB 1.0/CIFS Client option.
  5. Click the OK button.
  6. Restart Windows 10

After Windows 10 restarts, your WD NAS shares should now be visible in Windows File Explorer.

Its AI capabilities also received a big boost with a new dual-core NPU and improved digital signal processor (DSP) that can process over 10 trillion operations (TOPS) per second!

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Series : Exynos 990 Performance!

Note : We tested the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra against last year’s Galaxy Note10+ and Galaxy S10+ devices, as well as the two fastest Qualcomm devices we have in the lab, including the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+.

However, please note that the Snapdragon 865+ results are from the Galaxy Tab S7+ tablet, not a smartphone.

We tested the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra using PCMark, which simulates work applications like web browsing, playing video, writing text and editing photos.

Samsung Exynos has historically been rather poor at work performance. But the Exynos 990 was significantly faster than the last-generation Exynos 9825 and Exynos 9820.

Thanks to the improved performance, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra was 17% faster than last year’s Galaxy Note10+ (Exynos 9825), and 25% faster than the Black Shark 2 Pro, which is powered by Snapdragon 855+.

However, the Snapdragon 865+ is 17% faster than the Exynos 990 in this test, losing out only in the Photo Editing test (by 15%).

Gaming Performance : 3DMark

For gaming, we first tested the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra using 3DMark, with these results :

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra was as fast as the Black Shark 2 Pro (Snapdragon 855+) in Sling Shot, and 6% faster in Sling Shot Extreme.

However, the Exynos 990 was no match for the Snapdragon 865+, which was 5% faster (OpenGL) to 13% faster (Vulkan) in Sling Shot Extreme.

Gaming Performance : AnTuTu

We then tested the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra using AnTuTu, yielding these results :

In AnTuTu, the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra was 20% faster than the Black Shark 2 Pro (Snapdragon 855+) and 40% faster than the Xiaomi Mi 9 (Snapdragon 855)!

The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra was even faster when we compared it to last year’s Galaxy Note10+ (Exynos 9825) – 50% faster, and Galaxy S10+ (Exynos 9820) – 58% faster!

But the Exynos 990 was, yet again, slower than the Snapdragon 865+ in this test. The Snapdragon 856+ was faster by 10.5%.
