Rocket League : Soon FREE-TO-PLAY, But Not On Steam!

Rocket League is going Free-To-Play soon, but there’s a catch – Psyonix is taking it off Steam!

Find out what’s going on with Rocket League, and what it means for those who purchased it!

Rocket League Will Be FREE-TO-PLAY!

Psyonix just announced that they are making Rocket League free-to-play this summer – anytime from now until September.

The core gameplay won’t change, but Psyonix will be making these changes :

  • refining the main menus
  • revamping and improving Tournaments and Challenges
  • introducing cross-platform progression

What Happens To Those Who Purchased Rocket League?

Those who purchased Rocket League will be rewarded with Legacy status, which includes :

  • all Rocket League DLCs released before the game goes free-to-play
    – DLC cars : Vulcan, Triton, Proteus, Masamune, Marauder, Esper, Aftershock
    – DLC packs : Supersonic Fury, Revenge of the Battle-Cars, Chaos Run
  • Est. 20xx title that displays the first year you played Rocket League
  • all 200+ Common items, which will also be upgraded to Legacy quality
  • Golden Cosmos Boost
  • Dieci-Oro Wheels
  • Huntress Player Banner
  • Faded Cosmos Boost (for those who played online)

Players will still retain the inventory they unlocked over the years. And with cross-platform progression, you will be able to bring your items, Rocket Pass progress and Competitive Rank to every platform when you play Rocket League.

Rocket League Switches From Steam To Epic Games Store!

Psyonix is also switching from Steam to the Epic Games Store.

When Rocket League goes free-to-play, it will be available exclusively on the Epic Games Store. The Steam version will no longer be available to download.

Not to worry though – you can just migrate your progress using the Cross-Platform Progression feature that will be introduced in the free-to-play version.

And if you still prefer to play on Steam, you can continue to do so. Rocket League will be updated and supported on Steam. New players just cannot download it.
