Claim : WHO Orders Worldwide Lockdowns Over Bird Flu!
People are sharing an article (archive) by The People’s Voice (formerly NewsPunch), which claimed that the WHO (World Health Organization) just ordered harsh worldwide lockdowns after Australia reported its first human case of bird flu!

The World Health Organization (WHO) has ordered government’s to prepare to initiate harsh new lockdowns after Australia reported its first human case of Bird Flu on Wednesday.

Truth : WHO Did Not Order Worldwide Lockdowns Over Bird Flu!
This is yet another example of fake news created / promoted by The People’s Voice, and here are the reasons why…
Fact #1 : WHO Did Not Order Any Lockdowns
Let me start by pointing out that the WHO (World Health Organization) did not order any lockdown in any country, never mind worldwide!
No legitimate media outlet reported such a shocking development, and no country announced any lockdown. Not even Australia, which reported its first human case of the A(H5N1) avian influenza virus.
That’s because the WHO never ordered any lockdown.
Fact #2 : The People’s Voice Provided No Evidence
Unsurprisingly, The People’s Voice article provided zero evidence to back up its “fact checked” claim that the WHO ordered “worldwide lockdowns” over the first human case of avian influenza in Australia.
In fact, the word “lockdowns” was only mentioned twice in its article – in its title, and the lede. After that, there was no mention of any lockdown, never mind the WHO actually ordering global lockdowns!
Fact #3 : WHO Cannot Order Lockdowns
The World Health Organization has no power over any government. It only has an advisory role, and cannot order any government to initiate lockdowns.
Even the Pandemic Treaty that is being negotiated will not grant the WHO any power to order any lockdown.
The power to prevent and respond to any pandemic remains with each individual country and its government.

Fact #4 : Australia Says There’s No Public Health Risk
The Australian Centre for Disease Control, which announced the case, said that bird flu does not easily infect humans, and that there was “no ongoing public health risk” from the case.
A child acquired the infection while overseas and became unwell on returning to Australia earlier this year. The case was confirmed by the Victorian Department of Health on 18 May 2024.
The child has now made a full recovery and no family members in Australia or overseas have reported
symptoms.
Bird flu does not easily infect humans and there is no ongoing public health risk from this case.
Fact #5 : The People’s Voice Is Known For Fake News
The People’s Voice is the current name for NewsPunch, which possibly changed its name because its brand has been so thoroughly discredited after posting numerous shocking but fake stories.
Founded as Your News Wire in 2014, it was rebranded as NewsPunch in November 2018, before becoming The People’s Voice. A 2017 BuzzFeed report identified NewsPunch as the second-largest source of popular fake news on Facebook that year.
