Did two cooks in Taiping stab each other in a video that has gone viral on social media?!
Take a look at the viral video, and find out out what the facts really are!
Claim : Two Taiping Cooks Stabbed Each Other!
A short 33-second video has gone viral on social media and WhatsApp, showing two men being taken away in ambulances after stabbing each other. It’s accompanied by messages like this :
Taiping …two cooks in the cooking department stabbed each other today.
It showed a man with a knife sticking out of his chest, while a second man appeared to be severely burnt by hot cooking oil.
Truth : Two Taiping Cooks Did NOT Stab Each Other!
This is yet another example of FAKE NEWS circulating on social media, and WhatsApp, and here are the reasons why…
Fact #1 : No One Stabbed Each Other
First, let me just point out that this video is genuine, but misappropriated to promote a fake story.
No one stabbed each other, or poured hot cooking oil on anyone. In fact, no one was hurt at all.
Fact #2 : It Was A Training Exercise At Taiping Hospital
The viral video showed a simulated fight between a cook and a hospital attendant, which was part of a training drill conducted by the Taiping Hospital and the Taiping Fire and Rescue Station.
It was recorded at Taiping Hospital, and showed only a small segment of an hour-long training drill conducted there on Wednesday, 24 August 2022.
If you look carefully at the video, you can see that the “victims” were wheeled out of the Taiping Hospital’s Dietetics & Catering Department (Jabatan Dietetik & Sajian).
Fact #3 : Taiping Police Confirmed The Training Exercise
The Taiping District Deputy Chief of Police, Superintendent Razlam Ab Hamid confirmed that the video only showed a training simulation conducted by the Taiping Hospital.
The simulation exercise attracted the attention of members of the public in the area and the video was shared via Facebook, with the action during the training resembling scenes of a fight.
However, all the equipment used and every action performed were for the purpose of training the 54 hospital personnel to prepare them on disaster management procedures like fires and so on.
He also said that the Taiping Hospital was conducting these training simulations over two days – on 24 and 25 August 2022, to expose hospital staff to disaster management methods.
