Right after news broke that Cynthia Lai suddenly died just 3 days before her election, anti-vaccination activists immediately claimed that the Toronto city councillor died from vaccine-induced sudden death (SADS / VIDS / VDS)!

Here is a selection of social media posts accompanying links or articles on her death:

Marc Emery : Let me guess, cardiac arrest? Sudden Adult Death syndrome? Since candidate Lai was running in an election, she presumed herself in excellent health.

Maya Rose : City councillor Cynthia Lai pushed the COVID vaccines and died suddenly days before her reelection. Please stop doing this to yourselves. 🚫☣️💉

Defiant Baptist : #CynthiaLai died (suddenitis) mere days after promoting the #SafeAndEffective treatments for children. That’s some cosmic justice right there.

Truth : Cynthia Lai Did NOT Die From Vaccine Sudden Death!

It’s now a tradition for anti-vaccination activists to immediately blame all politician deaths or illnesses on the COVID-19 vaccine.

This is yet another example of FAKE NEWS created and propagated by anti-vaccination activists, and here are the reasons why, and what we know so far…

Fact #1 : Cynthia Lai Died From Gallbladder Cancer

Cynthia Lai, who was a Scarborough North city councillor, died on Friday, October 21, 2022, at the age of 68.

Her campaign manager, Hatch Aynedjian, confirmed her death on Friday afternoon, and said that Cynthia Lai “died in hospital, and was surrounded by family“.

Aynedjian also said that Cynthia Lai had been battling an illness throughout this year, and only decided to run for re-election when her condition improved in the spring.

However, her condition deteriorated and she ended up campaigning from a hospital bed, and missed an all-candidates meeting on October 19, 2022.

The City of Toronto confirmed that Cynthia Lai had been suffering from gallbladder cancer.

So let me be clear – Cynthia Lai’s cause of death was gallbladder cancer, not the COVID-19 vaccines.

Fact #2 : Cynthia Lai Was Fully-Vaccinated

Cynthia Lai was fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in April 2021, and did not appear to suffer any ill effects.

In fact Cynthia Lai was a strong advocate of vaccination, and her last Twitter post was a retweet of a Toronto Public Health recommendation that everyone 5 years and older get a fall booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Until her hospitalisation and death, she was very active in her community, proving that the COVID-19 vaccines had no ill effects on her.

Unfortunately, COVID-19 vaccines only protect against severe disease and death from the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. They cannot protect against gallbladder cancer…
