Truth : COVID-19 Vaccines Do NOT Give You Eye Worms!

This is one of the more bizarre examples of FAKE NEWS created and propagated by anti-vaccination activists, and here are the reasons why!

Fact #1 : The Video Shows Ocular Filariasis

The viral video shows ocular filariasis – a worm infestation of a man in Karnataka, India, who sought treatment at the New Medical Centre in Kundapur.

While the video appears to show multiple eye worms, it’s actually just one worm that is 15 cm long. Dr. Srikanth Shetty physically removed that worm, as it could potentially damage the man’s eyesight.

The worm was later identified as a filarial nematode (parasitic worm) of the Wuchereria bancrofti species.

In addition to that worm in his eyeball, the man also had parasitic worms in his blood, which was treated with medication.

Fact #2 : Wuchereria Bancrofti Spreads Via Mosquito Bites

Wuchereria bancrofti is one of three parasitic worm species (the other two being Brugia malayi and Brugia timori) that are capable of infecting humans and causes lymphatic filariasis.

All three parasitic worms spread through mosquito bites, not COVID-19 vaccines. Wuchereria bancrofti is the most common of the three parasitic worm species, and infects over 120 million people globally.

To be clear – there is no possible way for COVID-19 vaccines to infect people with such parasitic worms.

Wuchereria bancrofti has only two hosts – humans as the definitive host, while mosquitoes serve as. the intermediate host. It can only infect human beings through mosquito bites, commonly from the Culex, Anopheles, Mansonia and Aedes species.

Fact #3 : The Video Was Published In October 2018

It is not known when the Indian patient was treated, or when the video was recorded. However, we know that it was published sometime in early October 2018, and went viral at that time.

That is more than 2 years before the COVID-19 pandemic began, and more than 3 years before the first COVID-19 vaccines were approved.

In other words – this video has nothing to do with COVID-19, or the vaccines created to protect us against the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Fact #4 : Wuchereria bancrofti Existed Long Before COVID-19

Unlike the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which is a novel (new) coronavirus, Wuchereria bancrofti is literally an ancient parasitic worm.

Wuchereria bancrofti has been infecting people since time immemorial, with infections being documented in Ancient Greek and Roman texts!

So Wuchereria bancrofti infections have nothing to do with COVID-19, or the vaccines created to protect us against the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Fact #5 : Anti-Vaccination Claims Have All Proven False So Far

This is yet another example of anti-vaccination activists abusing old videos or unrelated diseases to create and propagate FAKE NEWS about the safety and efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines.

So far, claims of deaths / injuries due to the COVID-19 vaccine have been proven false at every instance. Here is the latest dozen of other false COVID-19 vaccine claims!
