The OPPO R9s Official Press Release

Kuala Lumpur, 5th January 2017 –The OPPO R9s was announced at an event in Kuala Lumpur today. Powered with a 16MP rear camera, extra-wide f/1.7 aperture, coupled with the new Dual PDAF technology, OPPO, the camera phone expert now introduces a smartphone packed with improved rear camera technology that enables users to capture clear photos anytime, anywhere.

In addition to that, the R9s also introduces OPPO’s VOOC Flash Charge technology for speedy charging and lightning-quick fingerprint access. Now, with the R9s, users are able to effortlessly capture professional-grade photos all day.

OPPO is no stranger to the world of innovative camera phones. Two years ago, the brand introduced the OPPO N3’s motorized swivel camera that can track objects as they move and can rotate up to 206 degrees, also flaunting a Schneider Kreuznach-certified lens.

In addition to that, the F1s garnered positive feedback and incredible sales. This time, the brand decides to up the rear camera game by introducing massive improvements to the R9s’s 16MP rear camera, enabling users to capture even moving objects clearly.

“As this year will be the year of mobile photography, we at OPPO Malaysia would like provide users with a camera that is able to capture photos that are crisp, clear and bright. With the R9s, now it’s clear”, said Chen Lu, Brand Director of OPPO Malaysia.

All-new IMX 398 sensor and Dual PDAF technology

Last year, the OPPO F1s rose to success, thanks to its superb selfie-snapping ability. The new R9s carries forward that brilliant suite of front camera features and rounds them off with a rear photography experience that elevates its predecessor’s. The device sports an impressive 16 MP front camera, paired with a large f/2.0 aperture and OPPO’s Screen Flash technology that produces excellent night shots.

[adrotate banner=”4″]

At the center of the R9s’ rear camera prowess is the all-new Sony IMX398 sensor – a customized 1/2.8 inch sensor that Sony and OPPO developed together. With this sensor and an extra-wide f/1.7 aperture that captures 40% more light than previous generations, the R9s’ rear camera offers phenomenal focusing speed, noise reduction and low-light performance, allowing users to snap breathtakingly clear and beautiful images in a matter of seconds.

The R9s’ camera uses Dual PDAF technology, a next-generation upgrade from standard PDAF solutions. The first generation of PDAF has only “a half” pixel for focusing, but the Dual PDAF increases by 100% the area of the sensor’s pixel array equipped with the special photo diodes necessary for phase-detection autofocus, allowing lightning-fast focusing — even in low light — and producing crystal-clear images.

“Our research efforts revealed that users’ dissatisfactions with rear cameras is that images typically appear blurry, or are dark and with visible poor pixel performance. Determined to solve this problem, we aimed to produce a smartphone with a rear camera that allows users to snap clear, crisp photos anytime, anywhere”, explains Ken Ng, Product Manager, OPPO Malaysia.

Head-turning ultra-fine “six-string” antenna lines

The R9s introduces a stylish and innovative take on the rear antenna lines used to ensure a strong signal. The thick white bands that traverse the back of most phones have been replaced with two sets of three ultra-fine lines. Though these lines measure at a mere 0.3 mm, the “six-string” design manages to imbue the R9s with an effortless sophistication, evoking the elegant lines of a stringed instrument.

The fresh look is coupled with stronger performance than ever – the device is equipped to operate on six frequency ranges, dynamically choosing the best one for 4G and Wi-Fi signals.

The new design sees the R9s’ body equipped with 98.9% of metal, with a screen-to-body ratio of 72.9 %, making its visual a subtle, refined and distinguished one, with superb signal reception to boot.

Powerful, long-lasting performance to keep users snapping away

The R9s sports a Qualcomm octa-core processor, 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM, and cruises seamlessly on ColorOS 3.0 (based on Android 6.0). Storage-wise, the 64 GB onboard can be expanded by an additional 128 GB, ensuring users will have plenty of room to store their crystal-clear shots. Meanwhile, the R9s’ fingerprint reader gives users exceptionally fast 0.2s touch access, and intelligently refines its image of the user’s fingerprint over time.

The R9s is also backed with a 3,010 mAh battery and OPPO’s industry-leading VOOC Flash Charge technology, for seamlessly fast charging that are low-voltage, so your phone’s internals will never be taxed with excess heat.

With its head-turning design, powerful performance and superb all-around photography experience, the R9s is set to let users capture their lives in style!

SAP & IDC : The Future Of The Malaysian Internet Economy

On 24 November 2016, SAP and IDC hosted an exclusive briefing on the future of the Malaysian Internet economy. The timing is impeccable because the Malaysian government has declared that 2017 should be the “Year of the Internet Economy“.

Their analysis and opinions on how Malaysian businesses and entrepreneurs should chart their courses going into 2017 are invaluable for anyone who wants to stay relevant in the new age of the Internet economy. We all need to stay on top of the wave of new developments, or risk having it crash on us.

2017 – The Year Of The Internet Economy

In 2015, the Malaysian Internet economy contributed 17.8% to the GDP (Gross Domestic Product), just shy of the 18.2% target set for 2020. On the back of this rapid growth in importance, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak called on Malaysians to “embrace, adapt to changes and explore new areas of growth to accelerate the economy“.

SAP Malaysia is in full agreement of this view. In the past decade, the rate of adoption of new technologies has accelerated and technology is changing the rules of business with disruption becoming the norm. This will accelerate in 2017 and local businesses need to absorb, understand and adapt to these underpinning seismic shifts taking place, particularly with regards to Internet of Things and Big Data Analytics.

SAP Malaysia Managing Director Terrence Yong kicked off the session with his view on the Malaysian digital economy, and how IoT and big data analytics are changing the way we make, buy and sell products and services.

IDC Asia-Pacific Research Director Chin Jun Fwu then shared his findings on the adoption of the latest IoT and big data analytics here in Malaysia, before SAP (Southeast Asia) Head of Analytics Kathleen Muller touched on the impact of data analytics and the Internet of Things, particularly for SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises).

Unfortunately, the current adoption of big data analytics and IoT in Malaysia is low. The key takeaway is that price is not really the issue, but rather inertia. Even if they are aware of what they must do to adapt to the changing world, there is resistance to learning new ways.

That will have to change, soon. Otherwise, even the most established businesses may lose out to their more nimble competitors.

SpecialEffect – Helping Disabled Kids Have Fun With Games!

In the middle of Ian Livingstone’s talk on the game industry, he shared a video that brought tears to many eyes in the hall. The video showcased the amazing work that a charity called SpecialEffect has accomplished – enabling children with severe disabilities to play computer games like the rest of us!

Warning : The video is emotionally charged, and very addictive. Just be sure prepare some tissues first, because someone’s always cutting those damn onions when the video is playing!

Ian Livingstone CBE is an ambassador for SpecialEffect, and he is visibly proud of the work they have done. It’s obvious to see why. Even I keep playing the video over and over again just to see the joy in their faces!

Their unbridled joy is why I’m writing this special. More children (and adults) with disabilities deserve to enjoy games as well!

The SpecialEffect Mission

SpecialEffect is a UK-based charity that focuses on enabling children (and even adults) with severe disabilities to enjoy computer games. Their team of game technologists and occupational therapists customise equipment to help children and adults with different disabilities access the computer games that they want to play.

But it is not just for the entertainment value. Playing computer games allow them to reconnect with the world, and feel a greater sense of inclusion that will rebuild their confidence. It will also help kickstart or enhance their rehabilitation.

Some Of Those They Have Helped

What Can You Do?

If you are in the United Kingdom, you can help SpecialEffect by donating your services or your money.

[adrotate banner=”4″]

If you are outside the United Kingdom, I’m highlighting their work so that you may be inspired to start similar programs in your country, state or district.

Their success in using games to improve the lives of people with severe disabilities may also inspire therapists to consider using them as therapeutic tools.

While SpecialEffect does not provide their free services outside of the United Kingdom, they can offer advice to any person or organisation who are interested in emulating the work they have done. You can call them at 01608-810055 or email them at info@specialeffect.org.uk.

Ian Livingstone – The Past, Present & Future of the Game Industry

Level Up KL 2016 was a great opportunity for game developers in Asia to meet up, and learn from each other. Industry luminaries like Wan Hazmer and Rami Ismail gave talks on creating a triple A game title like Final Fantasy XV, and how a new developer can survive the development of their first game.

But MDEC (Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation) saved the best for last – Ian Livingstone CBE. We were so fortunate to be able to meet him in person, and listen to him talk about the past, present and future of the game industry. Join us for this once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Ian Livingstone On The Past, Present And Future Of The Game Industry

On 11 November 2016, we were invited to a special session with Ian Livingstone CBE. You may know him as the co-founder of Games Workshop and the roleplaying gamebooks – Fighting Fantasy. He was also the Life President of Eidos, and helped bring Tomb Raider to life.

With over 40 years of experience in the game industry, his life experience is truly the stuff of legends. And he kindly shared that with us in his hour-long talk.

Ian Livingstone was not just part of the explosion of the roleplaying genre in the 70s, he was also a pioneer. With Steve Jackson, he created the White Dwarf gaming magazine and the Fighting Fantasy gamebooks. And both of them (with Bryan Ansell) then founded Citadel Miniatures.

Ian Livingstone now divides his time between nurturing new game developers, and the Livingstone Foundation (which he founded). He is recognised as one of the founding fathers of the UK games industry, and listed in the 2015 Debrett’s 500 of most influential people in UK. He has also won a slew of awards like the BAFTA Special Award, the British Inspiration Award and the Develop Legend Award.

[adrotate banner=”5″]

Q&A On The Game Industry In Emerging Markets

At the end of his talk, Ian Livingstone graciously sat down for a Q&A session with members of the media and students who were lucky enough to be part of the session. Joining him at the Q&A session was Hasnul Hadi Samsudin, the Director of Creative Content & Technologies, MDEC.

We hope you enjoyed the insights Ian Livingstone shared with us. We are certainly very glad we had the opportunity to meet and listen to him.

The ViewSonic XG2703-GS is the first in the series to include NVIDIA’s G-SYNC technology that seamlessly synchronizes the frame rate output between the graphics card and monitor. It also features NVIDIA’s Ultra-Low Motion Blur (ULMB) technologies that smooths movement and sharp edges, decreasing motion blur and minimizing ghosting.  The 165 Hz refresh rate and 4ms response time ensure that the display delivers superior visual fluidity and graphics that burst off the screen.

Its comprehensive color accuracy technologies makes it the standard display for applications where color accuracy is crucial.

In addition, the sleek and frameless design is ideal for multiple monitor set-ups to showcase vivid and lifelike colors, making it ideal for professional photographers, graphic artists, as well as content and development designers.

[adrotate banner=”4″]

For precise and uniform color, each VP2468 is factory calibrated to a Delta E<2 value for superior accuracy of all the included color spaces, including sRGB, EBU, SMPTE-C, REC709 and DICOM-SIM.

The VP2468 is engineered with an integrated color uniformity function that ensures consistent chromaticity across the entire screen, while a 14-bit 3D look-up table generates a palette of 4.39 trillion colors for astoundingly precise and exact image reproduction. A six-axis color enhancement allows users to individually adjust six primary colors: red, green, blue, cyan, magenta and yellow.

The ViewSonic VP2468 is equipped with DisplayPort technology, Mini DisplayPort, dual HDMI inputs, and four USB 3.0 ports for maximum flexibility and connectivity to a variety of devices and peripherals.

Moto Mods & Style Shells

The key feature of the Moto Z line-up is its expandability using modules called Moto Mods. They are magnetically attached to the Moto Z and Moto Z Play, adding additional functions to the phones without looking too out of place.

There are only 4 modules to choose from at the moment, but, rest assured – more Moto Mods will be added soon. Lenovo Malaysia also mentioned that these Moto Mods will be compatible with any future Moto Z line-up.

Also available are Style Shell back covers that lets you transform your phone to fit your style, though, they can only be used when no Moto Mods are attached.

The Moto Z Smartphone

The Moto Z is the flagship device within the two new phones. It is razor thin, just 5.2mm. So thin, they had to remove the 3.5mm stereo output as a result! (Not to worry, A USB Type-C to 3.5mm stereo adapter is included!)

The Moto Z has a 5.5″ Quad HD AMOLED display. The powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, along with 4 GB of RAM, allows the Moto Z to perform without a hitch! There’s 64 GB of internal flash storage. The Moto Z is also dual SIM, dual standby capabable.

The Moto Z smartphone features a 13 MP main camera with f/1.8 lens, optical image stabilisation (OIS), as well as laser autofocus. A 5 MP camera equipped with 85° wide-angle lens takes centre stage on the front of the Moto Z. It also comes with LED flash, just in case you need to take selfies in the dark. Charging comes in the form of a proprietary system, called TurboPower, which enables the Moto Z to get up to 7 hours of power in 15 minutes of charging!

The Moto Z Play Smartphone

The Moto Z Play might seem like the cheaper alternative to the flagship, but don’t let that fool you! While it is slightly thicker at 6.99mm, it packs a 3510 mAh battery, to provide Moto’s longest lasting smartphone ever!

The Moto Z Play also has a 5.5″ display, but is a Full HD Super AMOLED panel instead. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, along with 3 GB of RAM, still manages to provide a smooth user experience. Internal flash storage had been reduced to 32 GB. The Moto Z Play is also a dual SIM, dual standby smartphone.

The Moto Z Play smartphone has a 16 MP main camera with f/2.0 lens. While it drops optical image stabilisation (OIS), it adds phase detection autofocus (PDAF) to go along with its laser autofocus to give it zero shutter lag. On the front, is has the same 5 MP front camera setup with the flagship Moto Z. The Moto Z Play also comes with TurboPower charger. A 15 minutes charge is enough for up to 8 hours of use.

There are some similarities between both the Moto Z and Moto Z Play. Both shares the ability of expanding storage via a dedicated microSD card slot (up to 2 TB). The Moto Z and Moto Z Play also shares the usage of a USB Type-C connector. Also standard is the water repellent nano-coating, while it is no means waterproof, it’s helpful against accidental splashes.

Pricing & Availability

The Moto Z and Moto Z Play are priced at RM2,699 and RM1,799 respectively. They are available on Lazada and 11street, and in retail stores.

New Digital Transformation Solutions At Dell EMC Forum 2016

Dell EMC, formerly EMC and the new subsidiary of Dell Technologies, held the Dell EMC Forum 2016 at Hilton KL on 2 November 2016. The focus this year is digital transformation, from applications to data, to the infrastructure that powers businesses and the security that protects it.

Our hosts at Dell EMC Forum 2016 : Sumash Sing (Dell EMC, Enterprise Business) and KT Ong (Dell EMC, Commercial Business)

The Dell EMC Forum 2016 Tour

If you could not attend the Dell EMC Forum 2016, don’t worry. Here is a quick tour of the new Dell EMC products / solutions on display.

Digital Transformation At Dell EMC Forum 2016

Digital disruption is shaking up all types of organisation in all industries. In a recent Dell Technologies study, half (48%) of global business leaders from mid-size to large enterprises confessed they don’t know what their industry will look like in three years.

They agreed that moving toward a cloud model, expanding software development capabilities and enabling faster innovation and deeper insights from data are key strategies to digital transformation. However companies are struggling to evolve their data centers, with 69% saying they are being held back by too many traditional applications.

[adrotate group=”2″]

They are challenged with reducing sprawl and spend, while bringing systems up-to-date. New products and solutions announced at Dell EMC World, held from 18-20 October 2016, are designed to help organisations accelerate their transformation and manage costs.

“To ensure that they’re not “Uber’d”, “Airbnb’d” or “Tesla’d” in their marketplace, today’s organisations must embark on a digital transformation. To truly realise their digital future, we believe the vast majority of organisations will transform their IT through a hybrid cloud strategy,” said David Goulden, president, Infrastructure Solutions Group, Dell EMC. “The first ‘no regrets’ step is to modernise their data center through the most advanced converged infrastructure, servers, storage, data protection, and cybersecurity technologies to name a few. This week we are launching a wave of new products and solutions designed as the building blocks for this endeavor.”

The OPPO Sonica Wi-Fi Speaker Revealed

OPPO just revealed the OPPO Sonica Wi-Fi Speaker. While the name OPPO is commonly linked to smartphones when mentioned, they actually have a separate entity, called OPPO Digital, which specialises in high-end audio visual equipment.

OPPO Digital had earlier produced award-winning products such as Blu-ray players and headphones with matching amplifiers. But this is the first time they are launching a speaker, and it’s a Wi-Fi speaker at that. Let’s check it out!

The OPPO Sonica Wi-Fi Speaker Presentation

OPPO Digital Sales Manager, Adrian Lee, starts with some details on OPPO Digital. Then he details the key features of the OPPO Sonica Wi-Fi speaker.

The OPPO Sonica Wi-Fi Speaker Hands-On Preview

This video examines the OPPO Sonica Wi-Fi speaker, and allows you to hear for yourself, its audio fidelity and power output.

The OPPO Sonica Wi-Fi Speaker

The OPPO Digital Sonica Wi-Fi Speaker comes in a compact package, but don’t let that fool you. It is power packed with state of the art technology while delivering audiophile sound quality. It is powered by separate amplifiers set up in a time-tested 2.1 stereo configuration for the best possible performance.

A single-channel combined power output of 30-watts powers the 3.5″ bass woofer and two 3″ passive radiators, while another pair of amplifiers, 10-watts each, powers a stereo pair of 2.5″ wide-range drivers. Igor Levitsky, the same designer behind OPPO’s award-winning PM-series planar magnetic headphones, had a hand in the acoustic design and tuning of the OPPO Sonica. The speaker drivers, amplifiers, and chassis have all been expertly tuned to provide a deep, pure, and engaging sound.

The OPPO Sonica Wi-Fi Speaker comes not only with Wi-Fi capabilities, but also Apple AirPlay as well as Bluetooth capabilities. It comes with both Android and iOS apps that makes managing multiple speakers on the same network a lot easier. The OPPO Sonica app has the ability to make every speaker play the same song in unison or you could also create a different listening experience around each unit. The app can also further optimize the sound quality of the OPPO Sonica Speaker with built-in presets for different room sizes, speaker locations, and listening preferences!

The OPPO Sonica is capable of decoding audio files up to 24-bit / 192 kHz. It also supports lossless audio formats such as FLAC, WAV, and Apple Lossless, so you don’t have to compromise on quality. Multiple built-in adaptive antenna with MIMO technology ensures stellar signal strength up 2.4/5 GHz 802.11ac Wi-Fi standards (backwards compatible with 802.11a/b/g/n).

Other than that, the OPPO Sonica doesn’t only come with Wi-Fi, AirPlay and Bluetooth connectivity, on the back of the speaker, it features even more connectivity options, which includes a regular network jack, USB port, as well as a 3.5mm AUX-in jack!

The Malaysian Influence In Final Fantasy XV (With Preview)

On 24 October 2016, we were invited to a special session with Wan Hazmer, the Lead Game Designer of Final Fantasy XV. He came to talk about the Malaysian influence in Final Fantasy XV, as well as to show off previews of the highly-anticipated game which will be released on 29 November 2016.

Due to the secretive nature of the briefing, we were not allowed to record video footage of the event, or the Final Fantasy XV gameplay Wan Hazmer demonstrated. But we were allowed to take pictures and record their speeches. Check out what they revealed at the event!

Streamline Studios Co-Development Work

In July 2016, Streamline Studios was picked by Square Enix to provide premium development work on Final Fantasy XV. Streamline Studios is the largest game development studio in Malaysia with over 200 AAA collaborations under its belt, including BioShock Infinite, Star Citizen, Gears of War and Street Fighter V.

In this video, Alexander Fernandez, CEO of Streamline Studios, details how Streamline Studios came to be selected to co-develop Final Fantasy XV with Square Enix. The photos in this video will also show Hasnul Hadi Samsudin, the Director if Creative Content & Technologies, MDEC and Wan Hazmer.

Malaysian Influence In Final Fantasy XV

Wan Hazmer is a true anak Malaysia (Malaysian son). As Lead Game Designer of Final Fantasy XV, he tried to introduce as many Malaysian cultural elements as possible. Not everything made the cut, of course, but believe it or not – he managed to add roti canai, satay and teh tarik!

In this video, Wan Hazmer explains the Malaysian influence in Final Fantasy XV. Not just the inclusion of Malaysian culture, but also the creative contribution of Malaysians like him and the Streamline Studios team in its development.

PC Development Preview Of Final Fantasy XV

Wan Hazmer showed off the internal PC build of the PS4 version of Final Fantasy XV. Here are the photos we took. Enjoy!

Malaysia Now F-Secure Cybersecurity Hub For Asia Pacific

F-Secure is making a big push into the Asia Pacific region, using Malaysia as their launch pad. The F-Secure Tower in Bangsar South, where more than 170 F-Secure research and development engineers are based, is now the F-Secure cybersecurity hub for the whole Asia Pacific region.

The Asia Pacific F-Secure Cybersecurity Hub

In the F-Secure Tower, security engineers work around the clock to actively track malware in real-time. There is also a Customer Care Centre that provides 24/7 global support in the native language of its customers, such as Japanese, Spanish and all English speaking countries.

The security engineers in the F-Secure Tower currently track and analyse hundreds of thousands of threats on a daily basis. When a new threat is detected, these engineers immediately craft and issue new patches which are deployed to F-Secure customers around the globe.

New F-Secure CEO Samu Konttinen

The importance of the Malaysian F-Secure cybersecurity hub cannot be understated. It is, after all, F-Secure’s only security lab outside of Finland.

Just over 2 months into his appointment as F-Secure CEO & President, Samu Konttinen, made a point to visit the Malaysian F-Secure cybersecurity hub. In a press conference held yesterday, he gave us talk on how “Data Breaches Eat CEOs For Breakfast“. Check it out!

They also have two clock oscillators that switch to provide optimal modulation for the sampling frequencies of different content.

The Sony Walkman NW-A30 series audio players are compact and weigh only 98 g. Even so, they have enough battery life to support up to 45 hours of MP3 playback, or 30 hours of Hi-Res Audio playback. They are also easy to connect wirelessly, thanks to their Bluetooth and NFC capabilities.

With an improved 3.1″ touch screen, the Sony Walkman NW-A30 series is available with 16 GB (NW-A35) or 32 GB (NW-A36HN) of internal storage, that is expandable via a microSD card. In addition, the Sony NW-A36HN is paired with a pair of Hi-Res Audio digital noise-cancelling in-ear headphones.

Improved Camera Technology

Sony’s first flagship of the X series, Xperia XZ, and premium Xperia X Compact bring new and improved camera technology to give the best pictures from Xperia yet. Maximising Sony’s acclaimed image sensor, two additional assisting sensors have been added to make Sony’s triple image sensing technology. This allows you to capture beautiful images in motion with true to life colours in virtually any condition.

The technology includes Sony’s original Exmor RS for mobile image sensor which provides a powerful blend of high quality image and autofocus (AF) speed combined with Predictive Hybrid AF to intelligently predict and track subjects in motion for blur-free results.

Added to this is the Laser AF sensor with distance sensing technology which captures beautiful blur-free photos in challenging low light conditions. And what’s more, you will enjoy superb true to life colours thanks to the RGBC-IR[i] sensor with colour sensing technology which accurately adjusts the white balance based on the light source in the environment.

The 23MP main camera not only gives you clear shots, but also super-fast start-up going from standby to capture in 0.6seconds[ii] at the touch of a dedicated shutter release button. Advanced features have been added for those who want more flexibility with manual settings to further enhance the shooting experience and creative possibilities, such as shutter speed and focus controls.

With videos being ever more popular for capturing and sharing unique moments on social media, both models bring significant advancements in the evolution of image stabilisation, cultivated in Sony’s Handycam camcorders, with Sony’s SteadyShot with Intelligent Active Mode to enable superb video recording. Now with 5-axis stabilization, you can shoot smoother videos[iii] even when walking or capturing extreme close-ups[iv].

Xperia XZ provides a 13MP front camera for the selfie perfectionist, with its super high sensitivity as high as ISO6400 and 24mm wide angle lens it will make the best of your pose even in low-light and group selfies. Xperia XZ also offers the highest quality recording in 4k so you get sharp, crisp footage that is full of detail.

[i] RGBC-IR stands for Red, green, blue, clear and infrared

[ii] Based in internal protocol defined by Sony Mobile Communications

[iii] 5-axis stabilisation feature is only available in Full HD video resolution

[iv] 5-axis stabilisation is activated only when the camera recognises macro video. Other situations will be recorded as 3-axis(pitch/yaw/roll) only

Premium design

With its stunning loop surface design, the 5.2” glass display and metal back of the Xperia XZ become one, to provide a perfect fit and beautiful feel in the hand. The loop surface is inspired by a monolithic form, whilst ALKALEIDO metal with high brightness and high purity provides shine and a feeling of depth which both enhance its premium design.

Xperia XZ is available in a brand new blue colour inspired by the beauty of nature – Forest Blue – along with stylish classics, Mineral Black and Platinum.

Adding a popular Sony form factor to the X series, the Xperia X Compact packs mighty technology into its small frame. Its 4.6” screen and loop surface design make it extra comfortable to hold and is ideal for an operation with just one hand. Xperia X Compact’s premium design can be clearly seen via its high-gloss finish and solid feel. It also follows our new signature blue colour expression with a Mist Blue colour hue together with timeless Universe Black and Stylish White.

Sony’s expertise in functional design is carried through to the Xperia XZ with a water resistant[i] design to take the worry out of a little splash of water. In addition, the fingerprint sensor power button[ii] on Xperia XZ and Xperia X Compact is intuitively placed on the side of the phone, so you’re able to pick up and securely unlock in a single movement and adds to the comfortable fit in the hand.

Intelligent Features

We’ve incorporated intelligent features into our smartphones so that they can assist you to make your daily life more convenient, more efficient, and more enjoyable. Both models feature new Battery Care[i] complemented by Qnovo adaptive charging which work in harmony to keep your battery healthy and make the lifespan last up to twice as long[ii].

Qnovo adaptive charging monitors and adjusts the charging current to avoid damage for battery longevity whilst Battery Care controls the charging based on learned habits and avoids excess charging by pausing charge at 90% and only completes the charging just before it’s needed.

Xperia Tips also recognises user habits to provide personalised tips and recommendations, helping you optimise your own personal user experience while Smart Cleaner automatically maximises performance by cleaning the cache from certain apps based on learning their usage so optimal performance is achieved at all times.

[i] Battery Care not available in all markets

[ii] Qnovo adaptive charging is featured on all X series models. 2x battery lifespan refers to Xperia X and Xperia X Performance with Qnovo enabled when compared to Xperia Z2. During laboratory battery capacity retention cycle testing conducted by Sony Mobile Communications and Qnovo Incorporated, the battery cell used in Xperia Z2 achieved a lifespan up to 2 times longer with Qnovo. The result may vary depending on conditions and environment.

Accessories

Xperia XZ and Xperia X Compact each have a range of matching optional Style Covers in corresponding colours including Style Cover Touch (SCTF10/20) which lets you access your favourite smartphone widgets through a smart window without needing to open the case.

For easy video viewing, Style Cover Stand (SCSF10/20) has an auto on/off function with adjustable viewing angle. Each model will be supplied with the new USB Type-C charger for easy charging.
