AMD Radeon RX 5700 – Our Verdict + Award!

We have to congratulate AMD for their herculean efforts. The new Navi GPU is definitely far superior to the Vega GPU.

On paper, the last-generation Radeon RX Vega 64 is faster than the Radeon RX 5700 (US | UK | MY). It even has far more stream processors!

But guess what – in most games, the Radeon RX 5700 is as fast as the Vega 64, or much faster!

Whether it’s the new RDNA architecture, or the smaller 7 nm process technology, who cares? It is generally faster than the AMD Vega cards, and with a lower power consumption to boot!

Now, there is no doubt that the NVIDIA RTX Super cards pose a real threat to it, more so with their excellent game bundle. Which is why AMD made the right decision to pre-emptively cut prices.

With the $30 price cut, it is now $50 cheaper than the RTX 2060 SUPER, and a whopping $150 cheaper than the RTX 2070 SUPER!

As our benchmark results show, the Radeon RX 5700 (US | UK | MY) is the virtual twin of the RTX 2060 Super, as far as gaming performance goes. Here is a summary of the six games we tested them on :

  • F1 2019 : Tie
  • World War Z : Tie
  • The Division 2 : RTX 2060 SUPER is 12% faster on average.
  • Strange Brigade : RTX 2060 SUPER is 7% faster at 1080p and 1440p
  • Metro Exodus : Tie at 1080p, RX 5700 is 8% faster at 1440p, RTX 2060 SUPER is 7% faster at 2160p
  • AOTS : RX 5700 is 3% faster at 1080p, 9% faster at 1440p, and 10% faster at 2160p

You can’t go wrong with either card for 1440p gaming, but these factors will tilt buyers to choose the Radeon RX 5700 (US | UK | MY) over the GeForce RTX 2060 Super :

  • It is significantly cheaper, by $50 / ~RM 205 / ~£40 / €44!
  • It has a small performance advantage at 1440p, the ideal gaming resolution for both cards
  • It has the most potential for performance improvements with newer drivers

Now, NVIDIA is providing two free games with every RTX SUPER purchase, but should they count towards the value of the card?

In our opinion, no, because these are supposed to be “free”, and are only available for a limited time. For those who did not intend to buy Wolfenstein : Youngblood and Control, it would be like being forced to purchase those games.

Ultimately, the AMD Radeon RX 5700 (US | UK | MY) is an excellent graphics card for 1440p gaming, with a price tag that’s $50 (12.5%) cheaper than the RTX 2060 SUPER.

For those reasons, we believe the AMD Radeon RX 5700 (US | UK | MY) deserves our Editor’s Choice Award. Congratulations, AMD, on a job well done!
