Display Ports

The AMD Radeon RX 5700 (US | UK | MY) comes with three DisplayPort 1.4 ports, that support Display Stream Compression.

They will support up to three 8K HDR displays at 60 Hz, or three 4K HDR displays at 144 Hz or more.

For compatibility with older displays, there is a HDMI 2.0b port, which supports up to 4K HDR displays at up to 60 Hz.

PCI Express 4.0

The AMD Radeon RX 5700 (US | UK | MY) is the world’s first graphics card to support PCI Express 4.0, which delivers a throughput of 16 GT/s – twice that of PCI Express 3.0.

To take advantage of PCI Express 4.0, you will also need to use it on a motherboard that supports PCI Express 4.0.

Currently, only motherboards based on the new AMD X570 chipset supports PCI Express 4.0, and they naturally come at a price premium.

How useful is PCI Express 4.0? Here are some performance results AMD shared with us to demonstrate the value of PCI Express 4.0.

You can also use the Radeon RX 5700 with older motherboards – it will just revert to PCI Express 3.0.

Frankly, PCI Express performance has a limited effect on gaming performance at the moment. GPU and graphics memory performance still matter far more. So this is mostly for future proofing.

AMD Radeon RX 5700 Thermal Output

We recorded the peak exhaust temperatures of those cards, to see how much heat they throw out. Take a look…

Note that these are not the recorded temperatures, but how much hotter the exhaust air is above ambient temperature.

Not surprisingly, with the lowest total card power of 185 watts, the Radeon RX 5700 (US | UK | MY) has the lowest exhaust temperature of this lot.
