Digital Transformation At Dell EMC Forum 2016

Digital disruption is shaking up all types of organisation in all industries. In a recent Dell Technologies study, half (48%) of global business leaders from mid-size to large enterprises confessed they don’t know what their industry will look like in three years.

They agreed that moving toward a cloud model, expanding software development capabilities and enabling faster innovation and deeper insights from data are key strategies to digital transformation. However companies are struggling to evolve their data centers, with 69% saying they are being held back by too many traditional applications.

They are challenged with reducing sprawl and spend, while bringing systems up-to-date. New products and solutions announced at Dell EMC World, held from 18-20 October 2016, are designed to help organisations accelerate their transformation and manage costs.

System Center 2016 – Managing the software-defined datacenter

More Than 10 Million WD Helium-Filled HDDs Shipped

18 October 2016 – Helping the world harness the power of data, Western Digital Corporation today announced that it has shipped more than 10 million WD helium-filled HDDs since the company first introduced the HelioSeal platform four years ago. First shipped in 2013, Western Digital’s HelioSeal platform has consistently pushed the envelope in terms of capacity and total cost of ownership (TCO) benefits, becoming the highest density HDDs, best suited for massive scale-out workloads.

“Extreme capacity hard drives are increasingly a key value enabler for enterprise applications and Western Digital continues to be a technology and time-to-market leader in terms of delivering capacity-optimized enterprise HDDs,” said John Chen, vice president, TRENDFOCUS. “As cloud and traditional enterprise customers continue to develop applications that make use of all of their accessible data, high density drives will be a crucial component that enables cost-effective storage of that data at scale. Western Digital’s HelioSeal platform has proven to be a key differentiator that addresses high capacity needs.”

 

More Than 10 Million WD Helium-Filled HDDs Shipped

With roots tracing back to the first hard drive manufactured 60 years ago, Western Digital continues to lead the industry by delivering innovative and reliable storage solutions that help solve challenges faced by customers in the datacenter.

The HelioSeal technology complements future magnetic recording technologies, and will enable even higher density HDDs expressly designed for enterprise applications and hyperscale workloads that require capacity to capture vast amounts of operational and historical data.

WD helium-based drives are also well suited for applications such as the Internet of Things (IoT), search and social media. Spanning three generations, the HelioSeal platform enables the highest density HDDs available today and delivers the highest HDD reliability ratings to reinforce its capabilities for use in cloud and enterprise workloads where availability and reliability are paramount concerns.

Underscoring the overall TCO benefits is the power efficiency of the HelioSeal platform. The 10 million WD helium hard drives, or approximately 76 exabytes (EB) of storage capacity, are a testament to energy efficiency at scale.

As architects continue to design for hyperscale cloud applications, 76EB of data stored on 10TB WD helium-filled drives would save over 1 million kilowatt hours (KWh) of operating power each day, about half the power required for 8TB air-filled drives.

The energy saved in one day of operation from these drives would be enough to power about 35,000 U.S. homes for the same day, illustrating how the efficiency of the HelioSeal line can help data center architects meet eco-environmental goals and requirements.

Nokia Communications Network On Expanded LRT Line

Kuala Lumpur, 5 October 2016Nokia has provided an advanced communications network to support railway operations and passenger services for the extension of the light rail system in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. The mission-critical railway network provides a range of services for the Kelana Jaya Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line Extension – including 13 new stations – which is used by 350,000 passengers daily.

 

Nokia Communications Network On Newly Expanded LRT Line

The Nokia communications network project was completed in conjunction with CMC Engineering Sdn Bhd, which was responsible for the construction of systems work packages of the line extension.

The mission-critical Nokia communications network is now supporting high-speed voice, data and video traffic as well as delivering essential services to ensure safety and security on the line’s driverless trains, while providing essential passenger information and enabling more efficient maintenance and operations.

This project highlights Nokia’s growing business with customers outside of the traditional telecommunications market, who also have a need for ‘carrier-class’ networks to support their operations. Nokia has established a strong record of success in the railway industry in particular, providing mission-critical networks to more than 100 passenger and freight railway operators globally.

The data transmission network in Kuala Lumpur includes optical networking technology from Nokia. The company also provided systems integration services to enhance safety and security through remote diagnostics and automated functions; constant situation awareness with video surveillance; Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA); monitoring systems; telephone and radio communications services; automated fare collection (AFC); and public address and passenger information systems.

Microsoft Transparency Center & Cybersecurity Center Launched

4 October 2016Microsoft today launched its first combined Transparency Center and Cybersecurity Center in Singapore, serving the Asia-Pacific region. The joint facility will for the first time bring together Microsoft capabilities in a single location in Asia-Pacific to deliver a holistic approach to serving the security needs of both the public and private sector and building a trusted and secure computing environment, a critical enabler for digital transformation.

 

The Microsoft Transparency Center

The Microsoft Transparency Center is a cornerstone of Microsoft’s long-standing Government Security Program (GSP), which offers participating government agencies the opportunity to review the source code of Microsoft products, access information on cybersecurity threats and vulnerabilities, and benefit from the expertise and insight of Microsoft security professionals. Nearly 40 countries and international organizations currently participate in the Microsoft GSP program with 10 participants from Asia.

The Microsoft Transparency Center in Singapore is a convenient location for governments in the Asia-Pacific region and will be part of a global network that covers four regions, joining existing facilities in Redmond, Washington, for North America, and Brussels, Belgium, for Europe. In addition, more details of other new Microsoft Transparency Centers will be shared later in 2016, including the recently announced Microsoft Transparency Center in Beijing, China.

Toni Townes-Whitley, corporate vice-president, Worldwide Public Sector, Microsoft Corporation, said, “Public-private partnerships are key to strengthening national cybersecurity. The Microsoft Cybersecurity Center

The Microsoft Cybersecurity Center in Singapore, co-located with the Transparency Center, will enable enterprises and organizations to tap into a pool of resources such as security specialists and technologies at Microsoft. With the rise in cybercriminal activities and the rapidly changing cybersecurity landscape, the Cybersecurity Center will bring forth innovations and advancements by way of security platform, threat intelligence analytics, advanced threat protection, machine learning capabilities, security services and cloud security in a comprehensive way.

Keshav Dhakad, regional director and assistant general counsel, Digital Crimes Unit (DCU), Microsoft Asia, said, “In the face of rising cyberattack sophistication, cybersecurity is mission-critical among C-suites and boardrooms. The Transparency Center and Cybersecurity Center will expand Microsoft’s public-private- partnerships in the Asia-Pacific region, while enabling and empowering enterprises to manage modern security threats effectively. This will build on the momentum in the last few years, where the Microsoft Digital Crimes Unit (DCU) has fostered various partnerships with public sector and enforcement agencies in the region.

This includes strategic collaboration with Interpol in global malware botnet disruption operations and a PhotoDNA licensing collaboration to support Interpol’s efforts in preventing child sexual exploitation online, as well as cyber threat intelligence sharing partnerships with several Internet Service Providers in the region and government Computer Emergency Response Teams (CERTs).

To support a comprehensive, cross-company and cross-industry approach to cybersecurity, Microsoft invests more than a billion dollars a year in security research, innovation and development. This includes a recently announced global Cyber Defense Operations Center (C-DOC), a state-of-the-art 24/7 facility that brings together security response experts from across the company to help protect, detect and respond to threats in real-time, securing Microsoft’s internal resources, cloud infrastructure, customer online services, devices and products.

Microsoft has also recently established an Enterprise Cybersecurity Group (ECG) – a dedicated team of worldwide security experts who will deliver security solutions, expertise and services that empower organizations to modernize their IT platforms, securely move to the cloud and keep data safe.

The 7th Generation AMD PRO APUs Announced

Red Hat just held their 6th Red Hat Forum here in Kuala Lumpur on the 6th of October 2016. The theme at Red Hat Forum 2016 was “Power of Participation“, building on Red Hat’s vision of enterprises transforming themselves and/or creating new innovations by participating in and collaborating on open source software.

The Red Hat Forum 2016 Media Briefing

Damien Wong, Vice President and General Manager of Red Hat ASEAN, kicked off the media briefing session with an overview of the Red Hat Forum, and the Red Hat Forum 2016 theme of the “Power of Participation“. He also announced the winners of the 2016 Red Hat Innovation Awards in the Asia Pacific region.

Next, Red Hat Vice President and Chief Technologist, Chris Wright, dove into how open source collaboration will help enterprises transform themselves to adapt to a fast, flexible future. A future where more services will be processed in the cloud, served on the Internet, and consumed on mobile devices.

Finally, Frederic Giron, Forrester Vice President and Research Director Serving CIOs, gave an overview of the Red Hat-commissioned ‘Open Source Drives Digital Innovation‘ survey of 450 CIOs in Asia Pacific.

 

Red Hat Q2 FY2017

Two weeks ago, Red Hat announced their financial results for the second quarter of the fiscal year 2017. Here are some key points :

Revenue : Total revenue for the quarter was $600 million, up 19% in U.S. dollars year-over-year, or 18% measured in constant currency.

Operating Income : GAAP operating income for the quarter was $82 million, up 7% year-over-year. After adjusting for non-cash share-based compensation expense, amortization of intangible assets, and transaction costs related to business combinations, non-GAAP operating income for the second quarter was $137 million, up 11% year-over-year.

Net Income : GAAP net income for the quarter was $59 million, or $0.32 per diluted share, compared with $51 million, or $0.28 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. After adjusting for non-cash share-based compensation expense, amortization of intangible assets, transaction costs related to business combinations, and non-cash interest expense related to the debt discount, non-GAAP net income for the quarter was $101 million, or $0.55 per diluted share, as compared to $88 million, or $0.47 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter.

Cash : Operating cash flow was $97 million for the second quarter, a decrease of 21% on a year-over-year basis. Total cash, cash equivalents and investments as of August 31, 2016 was $2.0 billion after repurchasing approximately $127 million, or approximately 1.8 million shares, of common stock in the second quarter.

Red Hat Outlook Guidance

For the full FY2017 :

  • Revenue guidance is expected to be $2.415 billion to $2.435 billion in U.S. dollars.
  • GAAP operating margin is expected to be approximately 13.8% and non-GAAP operating margin is expected to be approximately 23.0%.
  • Fully-diluted GAAP earnings per share (EPS) is expected to be approximately $1.35 to $1.37 per share. Fully-diluted non-GAAP EPS is expected to be approximately $2.23 to $2.25 per share. Both GAAP and non-GAAP EPS assume a $1 million to $2 million per quarter forecast for other income. Both GAAP and non-GAAP EPS also assume an estimated annual effective tax rate of 27% before discrete tax items and 184 million fully-diluted shares outstanding.
  • Operating cash flow guidance range is expected to be approximately $800 million to $820 million.

For Q3 FY2017 :

  • Revenue guidance is $613 million to $623 million.
  • GAAP operating margin is expected to be approximately 13.4% and non-GAAP operating margin is expected to be approximately 23.3%.
  • Fully-diluted GAAP EPS is expected to be approximately $0.34 per share. Fully-diluted non-GAAP EPS is expected to be approximately $0.58 per share. Both GAAP and non-GAAP EPS assume a $1 million to $2 million forecast for other income. Both GAAP and non-GAAP EPS also assume an estimated annual effective tax rate of 27% before discrete tax items and 184 million fully-diluted shares outstanding.

Dell PowerEdge FX2 Updates Announced

22 July 2016 – Dell has announced updates to the systems management portfolio for the Dell PowerEdge FX2 modular infrastructure to help customers further maximise IT productivity and business continuity. The new features enhance provisioning and infrastructure visibility, plus add support for Nagios users and open source applications.

Dell’s overall blade server growth is bolstered by the PowerEdge FX2, which is significantly outpacing industry blade server growth. The PowerEdge FX2 has demonstrated triple-digit percentage growth year-over-year in unit and revenue over the previous four quarters, contributing substantially to PowerEdge blade server gains, since its launch in 20141. According to IDC, Dell PowerEdge blade servers experienced 34 percent year-over-year revenue growth and grew 17 percent faster than the industry in the first quarter of 2016.2

As a result, customers can continue using their Nagios XI console to monitor Dell hardware without additional tools or training while achieving a higher return on their investment.
  • New Active System Manager (ASM) 8.2 capabilities enable fast and easy on-boarding and deployment of IT services across multiple chassis, server, storage and networking devices. The port view provides a visual mapping of physical and virtual infrastructures and any connectivity issues to allow for quick troubleshooting to help IT teams maintain business continuity and deliver more consistent, reliable IT services. MEIZU deployed six Dell PowerEdge FX2 chassis and 24 Dell PowerEdge FM120x4 micro servers to replace a disparate environment where previously applications and data were run locally across multiple desktops. With instant access to data, MEIZU enhanced customer service satisfaction while reducing the time needed for IT management at a cost-efficient rate.

a micro commerce site in China, was looking for a highly scalable infrastructure to support the organisation’s rapid growth. At the center of its marketplace infrastructure, the company deployed the Dell PowerEdge FX2 converged architecture powered by Intel technology, as well as Dell Storage PS Series arrays, Dell Storage NAS technology and Dell Networking switches.

The company reduced total cost of ownership by 9 percent for its micro commerce online marketplace compared with other micro commerce sites that it controls. Compared with other sites, IT efficiency also improved by 30 times. Through the support of the Dell end-to-end solution, Qbao.com has guaranteed an environment for the micro commerce marketplace to continue to grow and flourish.

Liaocheng University,
in China, wanted to improve desktop services to the China Smart City Research Institute, located in the university’s central lab building. Its goal was to devise Smart City solutions with commercial potential to export to the rest of the world as well as support China’s own development. To maximise the creative potential of the 120 institute staff and focus its attention on enhancing the desktop experience, the university implemented a converged VDI from Dell, featuring Dell PowerEdge FX architecture. It also deployed Dell Storage with Intel Xeon processors and Dell Networking at the back end, as well as a SonicWall next-generation firewall and Wyse endpoints.

As a result, there was enhanced innovation with 30 percent faster mathematical modelling, energy consumption was down by 40 percent, and IT management time was halved. “Because the design was based on the Dell FX2 converged architecture instead of rack servers, we increased the density of our IT by 300 percent. We estimate the savings to be RMB 1.6 million (US$245,000),” said Yu Bo, Information Center director, China Smart City Research Institute. “In essence, we have created a platform to really drive our Smart City research, so I think our relationship with Dell will be a long one.”

Rising Sun Pictures, in Australia, wanted to have a future-ready IT environment to stay at the forefront of the movie industry with cutting-edge movie visual effects. By teaming up with Dell partner Vlnet Solutions, Rising Sun Pictures deployed a compact, high-density and high-performance computing solution with 40 Dell PowerEdge FC630 servers across 10 Dell PowerEdge FX2 chassis with Dell ProSupport for Enterprise. These artists now have the tools they need to focus on visual effects innovation.

Dell Leads HPC Technology Advancements with Industry Partners to Help Accelerate Customer Innovation Cycles

Dell has instituted a customer early access program for early development and testing in preparation for Dell’s next server offering in the HPC solutions portfolio, the Dell PowerEdge C6320p server, which will be available in the second half of 2016, with the Intel Xeon Phi processor (formerly code-named Knights Landing). The PowerEdge C6320p unique server engineering and design will enable customers to:

  • Gain insights faster with a modular building block design, engineered to deliver faster insights for data-intensive computations and scale-up parallel processing.

Stampede, one of the main clusters for the Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment (XSEDE),is a multi-use, cyberinfrastructure resource offering large memory, large data transfer, and GPU capabilities for data-intensive, accelerated or visualisation computing for thousands of projects ranging from cancer cure research to severe weather modeling.

This month, the U.S. National Science Foundation awarded US$30 million to TACC to acquire and deploy Stampede 2 as a strategic national resource to provide HPC capabilities for thousands of researchers in the U.S. The new Dell HPC System is expected to deliver a peak performance of up to 18 petaflops, more than twice the system performance of the current Stampede system. Citrix Appoints Avnet As ASEAN Distributor

NVIDIA Expands NVIDIA GRID With Tesla M10 GPU

Singapore, 20 May 2016 NVIDIA today opened the path toward virtualising all enterprise applications with the introduction of NVIDIA GRID with the new NVIDIA Tesla M10 GPU. The offering provides the industry’s highest user density — supporting 64 users per board and 128 users per server — so businesses can deliver virtualised apps to all of their employees at an affordable cost.

The use of GPU-accelerated business applications by office workers is exploding. ACM Adopts SAP S/4HANA To Support Regional Expansion

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 18 May 2016 – SAP has concluded the rollout of SAP S/4HANA Finance on the SAP HANA platform for Alliance Contract Manufacturing Sdn Bhd (ACM) through systems integrator, Brightree Solutions Sdn Bhd.

These solutions will be integrated into ACM’s existing organisational environment for visibility into operations, enabling integration between business areas throughout the company’s value chain and a flexible, scalable system to quickly accommodate change.

Microsoft Asia Data Culture 2016 Study Revealed

KUALA LUMPUR, 11 May 2016Microsoft Malaysia today unveiled findings from its first Asia Data Culture study 2016, which showed that 85% of Business Decision Makers (BDMs) in Malaysia felt that it was important to drive an agile business that is data driven, yet only 44% are starting to embark or have a limited digital strategy in place.

“Digital transformation is beyond adding a layer of digitization to your business – it’s about bringing together social, mobile, analytics and cloud technologies together. And data is at the centre of this – knowing your customers, recognizing new opportunities, or streamlining processes will become a staple part of business strategy,” said Dzahar Mansor, National Technology Officer, Microsoft Malaysia. “As a case in point, IDC Asia/Pacific predicted that by the end of 2017, 60% of APAC 1000 (A1000) enterprises will have digital transformation at the centre of their corporate strategy.”

The study , which polled 940 business leaders from medium to large companies in 13 markets in Asia, including 269 senior business leaders in Southeast Asia (comprising Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam) also revealed that even though Malaysian business leaders felt there were clear benefits to having a data culture, there are gaps that needed to be addressed before doing so.

Bridging the gaps

Despite the benefits of adopting a data culture, the study also notes that there are areas that need to be addressed for Southeast Asian businesses to realize their full potential as a data-driven organization.

 

Creating an analytical workforce

94% of Southeast Asia’s business leaders agreed that it is important to have a data-savvy workforce. However, there are skillsets and culture gaps that need to be addressed in order for organizations to fully embrace a data culture.

  • Only 39% of business leaders in Southeast Asia polled felt that they have employees who have relevant skills to combine data to help identify business outcomes
  • 42% of respondents also cited fear of change as a barrier to embarking on digital transformation

 

Building infrastructure for data agility

91% of respondents agreed that they need to drive an agile business that is data driven. However, they perceive their capabilities in infrastructure to be lacking.

  • Less than half (46%) of business leaders in Southeast Asia felt confident that their existing data infrastructure scales with business growth
  • Only 37% of business leaders in Malaysia said that their data is accessible across mobile devices today – a definite barrier in democratizing data access in Malaysia where mobile devices penetration is expected to reach 13.7% by 2019

 

Data governance for collaboration

91% felt that data driven collaboration across the organization needs to be enabled.

  • However, a moderate 56% see the need for access to data to be provided to a broad spectrum of relevant roles within the organization. For the democratization of data to happen, there needs to be comprehensive data governance for security and privacy.
  • 41% of business leaders in Southeast Asia expressed that data security is a barrier to their digital strategy today.
  • Only half of the business leaders polled indicated that they have invested in tools for its workforce to help drive business insights across functions and departments.

A new data culture needs to be driven from the top

At an organization-level, data-enabled collaboration must be driven and owned by business leaders in order to drive digital transformation across functions and departments. According to the study, 85% of Malaysia’s BDMs agreed that to drive a successful data strategy, an organization should have a formalized role, of which 41% agreed that a clear direction should come from its Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Dr Dzahar echoes this and explains, “Business leaders, especially the C-suite, have a key role in driving change within the organization. It is no surprise that the Asia Data Culture Study showed that business leaders feel that CEOs should champion the new data culture. However, speaking from our own experience at Microsoft, in order for this to stick, it is important that the values of a new data culture are driven and accepted across all levels of the organization. This starts with the democratizing of data through technology so that everyone can access and are empowered to make decisions which create value for the organization.”

Dr Dzahar’s sentiment is in line with the study’s results, which show that 50% of Malaysian BDMs believe that access to data insights and analytics should be provided to a broad spectrum of relevant roles within the organization today.

 

Journey to a New Data Culture

Business leaders in Malaysia seem to be open to harnessing information in new ways. The study showed that they rated data visualization, predictive analytics and cloud data storage as important data capabilities for them in the next 12 to 18 months.

“Starting with a pilot and learning from that is key to a successful, longer term journey. Customers need to think about new scenarios which will provide new insights and new opportunities. They need to ask different questions about their business, not just based on hindsight but about the future. Technology has evolved so much that this is no longer science fiction but is achievable today,” said Dr Dzahar, adding that organizations should take advantage of how Microsoft’s technologies help its customers to achieve more – with innovations such as SQL Server 2016, Azure IoT Suite, as well as the new AX and CRM Online. “Organizations are now able to embark on their digital transformation journey that brings their data from hindsight to foresight, and to empower business leaders to deliver enhanced value in this new economy.”

 

Reaping the benefits of embracing a digital strategy

One such organization reaping the benefits of a modern data culture is iprice, a one-stop shopping destination with products of more than 300 merchants such as Lazada and Zalora. Being a digital company focusing on e-commerce, technology and data plays a crucial part in its operations and business expansion plans.

David Chmelar, CEO and co-founder of iprice explains, “Understanding our diverse customers’ needs and wants is crucial for us, especially since we operate out of Malaysia and apart from Malaysia have presence in Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong and Philippines. We need to understand the different profiles of our customers, down to their likes and preferences, while keeping in tune with the trends that take place in the markets that we operate in.”

“For instance, we tripled our revenues in health and beauty category when we spotted the rise of Korean beauty products in our data. Capturing this trend early allowed us to have a head start. It’s clear to see here that data is truly king,” said Chmelar. “Microsoft’s technologies such as PowerBI enables us to analyse this data in a quick, efficient, and timely manner.”

Dr Dzahar concluded by reiterating David’s experience, “This is what a modern data culture is about. It isn’t just about deploying technology alone, it’s about changing cultures so that every organization, every team and every individual is empowered to do great things because of the data at their fingertips.”

WD Q3 2016 Financial Results Announced

2 May 2016 — Western Digital Corp. today reported revenue of US$2.8 billion and net income of US$74 million, or US$0.32 per share, for its third fiscal quarter ended Apr. 1, 2016. On a non-GAAP basis, net income was US$283 million, or US$1.21 per share. Here are the rest of the WD Q3 2016 financial results.

In the year-ago quarter, the company reported revenue of US$3.5 billion and net income of US$384 million, or US$1.63 per share. Non-GAAP net income in the year-ago quarter was US$441 million, or US$1.87 per share.

The company generated US$485 million in cash from operations during the third fiscal quarter, ending with total cash and cash equivalents of US$5.9 billion. On Feb. 10, 2016, the company declared a cash dividend of US$0.50 per share of its common stock, which was paid on Apr. 15, 2016.

“We continue to manage our business effectively in a dynamic storage demand environment,” said Steve Milligan, chief executive officer. “Computer usage continues to shift from PCs to mobile devices and enterprise workloads are moving increasingly to cloud-based architectures. Our strategy to become a broad-based provider of media-agnostic storage solutions anticipates these and other trends. After we complete the acquisition of SanDisk, we will be better positioned to address and capitalize on these changes and opportunities, with the storage industry’s broadest set of products, a rich technology portfolio, and an experienced team in both rotating magnetic and non-volatile memory.”

The company indicated that it continues to expect to complete its planned acquisition of SanDisk in the June quarter.

New Dell Campus & Data Center Networking Solutions

April 27 2016 – Dell Networking has introduced new capabilities for campus and data center environments, including the launch of new cloud-managed wired and wireless solutions powered by Dell and Aerohive, Operating System 10 milestones and in-rack platforms for the data center.

Expanding Dell One Network vision

Building on its One Network campus vision, Dell Networking has collaborated with Aerohive to deliver a new cloud-managed solution that integrates and manages wired and wireless infrastructure. The co-branded solution incorporates Dell N-Series switches and Aerohive access points into Aerohive’s HiveManager NG – a next-generation cloud-based management solution. This solution greatly simplifies end-user access, setting a new standard for wired and wireless network convergence by bringing enterprise-class management to the public or private cloud.

April 26, 2016 — Adobe today unveiled the first integration between Adobe Sign and Adobe Marketing Cloud, eliminating the cost and frustration of manual, paper-based process for enrollment, onboarding and servicing across the customer journey.

Adobe Sign (formerly Document Cloud eSign services) features an upgraded and modernized mobile app experience, and works seamlessly with Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Forms – a key part of Adobe Marketing Cloud – helping organizations to go completely digital with anything from credit card applications to government benefit forms or medical forms.

And building on widespread adoption in Europe, Adobe is rolling out new data centers and meeting the most stringent legal requirements in the EU, part of a global expansion that will continue through 2016.

Raymond Teh Appointed Sales & Marketing VP Of NVIDIA APAC

SINGAPORE, April 20, 2016NVIDIA today announced that it has named Raymond Teh, an executive with 30 years’ experience in the tech industry, as vice president of Sales and Marketing for the Asia Pacific region.

Raymond Teh will lead the company’s APAC field sales efforts. He succeeds Francis Yu, who joined NVIDIA 12 years ago and is retiring later this year.

Raymond Teh most recently served as vice president, AsiaPacific, for Vodafone Global Enterprise. He previously held senior regional management roles at BT, GXS, SAP, and i2 Technologies. He holds a BSc in computer science and a Masters in Statistics from the University of New South Wales, Australia.

Dell and Peering One To Offer Hybrid Cloud Solution

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, April 7, 2016 – Dell has announced the signing of its first reseller in Asia Pacific (including Japan) with Peering One, a leading provider of cloud and datacenter services in Malaysia, to provide the Dell Hybrid Cloud System (DHCS) for Microsoft for enterprises in Malaysia.

With the availability of DHCS for Microsoft, large institutions in Malaysia now have access to a hybrid cloud solution that radically simplifies customer cloud experience, control and automates maintenance, allowing them to adopt hybrid cloud in a much faster and flexible manner.

The Dell Hybrid Cloud System for Microsoft, featuring technology jointly developed with Microsoft, is designed to break through the hybrid cloud adoption barriers of complexity, cost and control. According to a Dell worldwide poll of IT decision makers (ITDM) , 9 in 10 say a hybrid cloud strategy is important to achieve a Future-Ready Enterprise. The Dell Global Technology Adoption Index (GTAI 2015) also revealed that 55 percent of organizations globally indicated use of more than one type of cloud. The GTAI 2015 also cites cost and security as the biggest barriers to adopting and implementing cloud, and complexity is the barrier most often associated with hybrid cloud.

NVIDIA DGX-1 Deep Learning Supercomputer Launched

April 6, 2016 — NVIDIA today unveiled the NVIDIA DGX-1, the world’s first deep learning supercomputer to meet the unlimited computing demands of artificial intelligence.

The NVIDIA DGX-1 is the first system designed specifically for deep learning — it comes fully integrated with hardware, deep learning software and development tools for quick, easy deployment. It is a turnkey system that contains a new generation of GPU accelerators, delivering the equivalent throughput of 250 x86 servers.

The NVIDIA DGX-1 deep learning system enables researchers and data scientists to easily harness the power of GPU-accelerated computing to create a new class of intelligent machines that learn, see and perceive the world as humans do. It delivers unprecedented levels of computing power to drive next-generation AI applications, allowing researchers to dramatically reduce the time to train larger, more sophisticated deep neural networks.

NVIDIA designed the DGX-1 for a new computing model to power the AI revolution that is sweeping across science, enterprises and increasingly all aspects of daily life. Powerful deep neural networks are driving a new kind of software created with massive amounts of data, which require considerably higher levels of computational performance.

Powered by Five Breakthroughs

The NVIDIA DGX-1 deep learning system is built on NVIDIA Tesla P100 GPUs, based on the new NVIDIA Pascal GPU architecture. It provides the throughput of 250 CPU-based servers, networking, cables and racks — all in a single box.

The DGX-1 features four other breakthrough technologies that maximise performance and ease of use. These include the NVIDIA NVLink high-speed interconnect for maximum application scalability; 16nm FinFET fabrication technology for unprecedented energy efficiency; Chip on Wafer on Substrate with HBM2 for big data workloads; and new half-precision instructions to deliver more than 21 teraflops of peak performance for deep learning.

Together, these major technological advancements enable DGX-1 systems equipped with Tesla P100 GPUs to deliver over 12x faster training than four-way NVIDIA Maxwell architecturebased solutions from just one year ago.

The Pascal architecture has strong support from the artificial intelligence ecosystem.

“NVIDIA GPU is accelerating progress in AI. As neural nets become larger and larger, we not only need faster GPUs with larger and faster memory, but also much faster GPU-to-GPU communication, as well as hardware that can take advantage of reduced-precision arithmetic. This is precisely what Pascal delivers,” said Yann LeCun, director of AI Research at Facebook.

Comprehensive Deep Learning Software Suite

The NVIDIA DGX-1 system includes a complete suite of optimised deep learning software that allows researchers and data scientists to quickly and easily train deep neural networks. The DGX-1 software includes the NVIDIA Deep Learning GPU Training System (DIGITS), a complete, interactive system for designing deep neural networks (DNNs).

It also includes the newly released NVIDIA CUDA Deep Neural Network library (cuDNN) version 5, a GPUaccelerated library of primitives for designing DNNs. It also includes optimised versions of several widely used deep learning frameworks — Caffe, Theano and Torch. The DGX-1 additionally provides access to cloud management tools, software updates and a repository for containerised applications.
