Intel 720P Series Solid State Drive

This will be Intel's ultimate solid state drive for servers and workstations. With four flash controllers in RAID 5, it virtually triples the performance of the Intel 710 series SSD! In fact, the Intel 720P SSD just about reaches the practical limit of the PCI Express x4 interface. Imagine using one or more of these super-fast PCI Express cards in your server, which would incidentally free up slots for additional hard disk drives.

You will note that the Intel 720P's storage capacity is exactly 3/4 that of the Intel 710 SSD. This is because RAID 5 uses some space for parity information. This also provides some redundancy against failure, which is always welcomed in a server environment. Due to its small storage capacity and expectedly high cost, it is likely that these drives will serve as high-speed caches for large arrays of slower hard disk drives.

Availability & Pricing

Our source does not know when these drives will be released or how much they will cost. However, they should all be out by the end of the year. He advised us to watch out for a marked reduction in availability of the current Intel 510 series SSD and Intel X25-E Extreme SSDs. That will cue us in on when Intel will likely release these new drives. As always, we will update this expose whenever new information comes in, so check back again!

Love Letter From Almighty Intel

Woahhhh! Within hours of posting this leak, we received an officious cease-and-desist e-mail (aka love mail) from Sue A. Mann of Intel's Legal and Corporate Affairs Department. Take a look. FYI, we added our own comments in red italics :

Dear Techarp,

Who???

Intel has a firm policy of not revealing confidential product information ahead of time. Our regional legal team has conveyed that policy to you on many occasions over the last few years. Yet you have chosen to continue leaking our trade secrets to our competitors, costing us millions of dollars in potential revenue.

Millions?? You should fire the stupid bean counter who conjured that out of thin air!

Your latest leak on Intel's future solid state drive technology demonstrates yet again your utter disregard for intellectual property and our right to dispense information as and when we want to whom we want. In our eyes, you are the epitome of the greedy Chinese people who just cannot stop stealing our nation's secrets and duplicating them at 10 cents on the dollar.

Wow.. That actually hurts.. Hu hu huuu....

We demand that you stop your illegal activities and immediately remove all leaked Intel information. You have 24 hours to comply, or we will lodge a criminal report with the Malaysian police.

Seriously? I can tell that you have never dealt with our utterly professional police farce...

To help you come to the right decision, we will make you an offer. We know who your source is. If you do not comply with our demands, we will fire him and his wife from Intel with immediate effect. You will be responsible for ruining their children's future. If you comply with our demands, we will promote him to head our Libyan operations.

Wow, that's mighty "generous" of you... but our source is actually single... with NO kids.

We expect your positive reply and corrective measures by 5 pm Pacific Time, April 2, 2011.

We will definitely respond to your positively lovely letter and help you correct this misrepresentation of the situation.

Yours affectionately,

Hugs and kisses from all of us at Team ARP!
