How Does Windows Anytime Upgrade Work?

Windows Anytime Upgrade (WAU) gives users the ability to upgrade to a higher edition of Windows 7 in minutes. To initiate the upgrade process, an end user will purchase a software license key from a retailer or directly from Microsoft through the online process in the Windows Anytime Upgrade feature, enter it when prompted, and press the “upgrade” button.  Before upgrading, the end user need only save any open files and close all open programs. Programs, files, and settings on the machine will remain unchanged.

Where Can End Users Find WAU Launch Points?

WAU is accessed from several launch points in the Windows 7 Client including :

• the System Menu – About your computer,
• Control Panel,
• Start,
• Start – Most Frequently Used,
• Windows Help and Support,
• and Search, as well as other locations.

Will There Be Active Notifications For WAU?

No. There are no pop-ups for WAU within the OS. The end user needs to access WAU from a static launch point as listed above.

How Long Does It Take To Receive The WAU License Key?

Whether purchased directly online or through a local retailer, end users will have nearly immediate access to the WAU license key.

What Confirmation Will You Get After Purchasing An Upgrade?

Customers will receive a confirmation email that contains the product key for their records.

How Long Does The Upgrade Take?

Upgrading a Windows 7 computer to a new edition of Windows 7 typically takes between 5 and 15 minutes. End users will not have access to their programs and files during this time.
