What's New @ G.Skill?

After visiting the OCZ Technology suite, we headed for the G.Skill suite. Let's take a look at what's new from G.Skill.

New G.Skill Memory Kits

First up is the latest member of the G.Skill PI Series - the G.Skill F2-8800CL5Q-8GBPI memory kit. It consists of four 2 GB DDR2 memory modules that are officially rated for clock speeds of up to 550 MHz or 1.1 GHz DDR at timings of 5-5-5-15. They have to run at 1.8 V though.

Next, they showcased their new ultra-high performance G.Skill G-Mix PC3-16000 DDR3 memory kit. These memory modules run at clock speeds of 1000 MHz (2000 MHz DDR) with a CAS latency of 8. They come with a custom cooler that uses two small fans to actively cool the memory modules.

Finally, the G.Skill team showed us their latest super-high capacity memory kit, the G.Skill F2-6400CL6Q-16GBMQ. That's a mouthful but what it really means is that you can now upgrade your system's memory to 16 GB using just 4 modules.

This memory kit consists of four 4 GB PC2-6400 DDR2 memory modules running at 6-6-6-18 at 1.8 V. These modules use a 6-layer PCB and come with a lifetime warranty.

G.Skill Solid State Drives (SSDs)

G.Skill also showed off their SATA-2 solid state drives (SSDs) although there was no live demo. From what we can tell, G.Skill will continue to deliver them in capacities of 64 GB and 32 GB. The 32 GB sample (model FS-25S2-32GB) we saw was made in Korea using Samsung flash chips, with a rated power consumption of only 1 W.
