What Works?

Users of this soft-mod have reported the following in the article's forum thread :

chuvadenovembro

chuvadenovembro says it's necessary to install NVIDIA MAXtreme to benefit from the soft-mod. Using the regular Quadro driver, he noted no difference in performance in 3ds Max after soft-modding his NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS to an NVIDIA Quadro FX 4600.

In addition, he tested the following 3ds Max and MAXtreme driver combinations :

3ds Max 6 + NVIDIA MAXtreme 6 = bad performance (video)
3ds Max 8 + NVIDIA MAXtreme 8 = bad performance
3ds Max 2008 + NVIDIA MAXtreme 10 = good performance (video)

He also provided us with videos of the performance difference between 3ds Max 6 with the regular NVIDIA Quadro driver (click here) and 3dx Max 2008 with the NVIDIA MAXtreme 10 driver (click here).

Fuzzy 3D

On the other hand, Fuzzy 3D did not have any problem getting 3ds Max to work with the regular Quadro driver. In SPECviewperf 10, it worked in 3ds Max, CATIA, EnSight, Pro/ENGINEER, SolidWorks and UGS Teamcenter Visualization viewsets. It did not benefit Maya or UGS NX3 viewsets though.

In addition, the soft-mod worked in Cinebench 10 with a 15% increase in OpenGL rendering performance.
