The Pushbutton Backup Drive

The Seagate Pushbutton Backup drive is a rather squat, boxy affair. The chassis is made entirely of black and gray plastic. We would have preferred a metal case, but the use of plastic allowed Seagate to keep the weight down to a relatively svelte 1.27kg.

There are also practical reasons why Seagate chose to go with a boxy design. Take a look at the ring around the Seagate logo. The reverse side has a circular recess that fits it. This allows you to stack multiple Pushbutton Backup drives.

If you are wondering about its build quality, we can assure you that instead of feeling cheap, the plastic chassis actually feels thick and tough. Using plastic also allows it to absorb some knocks which would dent metal casings. So, having a plastic body isn't a bad idea at all.

There are four slits at the bottom of the drive. These are the attachment points for the drive stand which is used to keep the drive vertical, should you prefer to have it sit vertically.

The front of the drive sports a single button. This is the power button which also serves to start the backup process. The button is transparent and glows a bright blue when the drive is running.

On the rear end of the drive, you will find two two Firewire ports, one USB 2.0 port, and a DC-power input port. Note the air vents all around the drive. They serve to ventilate the chassis and keep the hard drive inside cool.
