OCZ PC4800 Platinum Elite Edition DDR Memory Review

Introduction

OCZ Technology is one of the few manufacturers that pops into the mind when we are looking for high-performance memory for gaming machines.

Even though the future lies with the new DDR2 standard, OCZ Technology has continued development of their DDR memory. In fact, they have recently released their new PC4800 Platinum Elite Edition DDR modules!

This is a new addition to their Platinum series, which features OCZ's proprietary Enhanced Latency Technology. This means the modules offer lower latency timings than standard DDR2 modules while providing unsurpassed stability.

Today, we take a look at the latest Platinum model - the OCZ PC4800 Platinum Elite Edition dual-channel memory kit.

OCZ PC4800 Platinum Elite Edition

This new Platinum Elite Edition memory is actually an enhanced version of the older plain Platinum Edition memory. The difference is the new version is rated for two different timings. You can either use it as high bandwidth memory or as ultra-low latency memory. We will touch more on this later in the review.

The OCZ PC4800 Elite Edition memory is available as single modules or in dual-channel kits. But all of them come with the following features :

  • Dual specifications memory kit
  • 2.5-4-4-10 timing at 600MHz DDR
  • Ultra-low latency 2-2-2-5 timing at 400MHz DDR
  • 100% hand-tested to ensure reliable performance
  • Platinum-mirrored copper heatspreaders for efficient heat dissipation
  • Lifetime warranty
  • Toll-free technical support
  • Exclusive EVP® (Extended Voltage Protection) coverage
