Examination Of Clock Speed Changes

We attempted to find out the exact effect PEG Link Mode had on various PCI Express graphics cards' clock speeds. So, we tried checking their clock speeds using the following utilities :

      • NVIDIA's Overclocking Utility (thanks to the Coolbits hack)
      • Rivatuner
      • Powerstrip

We checked the clock speeds after booting up the testbed. We also checked for changes in the clock speeds with a 3D game running in windowed mode.

Unfortunately, only Rivatuner was able to detect the clock speeds of the NVIDIA cards on the hardware level. This is a sample of the report we were able to obtain :

The ATI X300 was easier by comparison - the ATI Tray Tool supported hardware detection of the clock speeds.
