ATI Mobility Radeon

The Mobility Radeon mobile GPUs are ATI's graphics solutions for the mobile market. Unlike NVIDIA, the Mobility Radeon range covers all mobile GPUs from ATI. This ranges from the original Mobility Radeon GPU to the new mobile PCIe GPUs like the Mobility Radeon X800.

In addition to mobile GPUs for the roaming gamer, the Mobility Radeon range also includes integrated graphics solutions like the Mobility Radeon 9100 IGP.

Because the ATI Mobility Radeon range covers over a dozen GPUs, let's take a look at the top AGP Mobility Radeon GPUs.

Today, we will be taking a close look at the Mobility Radeon 9700 GPU.

The Mobility Radeon 9700

Recently, I purchased the BenQ Joybook 7000 notebook which is powered by a Mobility Radeon 9700 GPU with 64MB of DDR SDRAM. Below are the specifications of the BenQ Joybook 7000's Mobility Radeon 9700 GPU.

While the core clock speed was close to the maximum rated clock speed, the memory clock was really low at only 216MHz. We will have to see how that affects its performance.

It comes with 64MB of DDR SDRAM, which is pretty much standard fare these days. This allows for a moderate amount of texture storage although AGP texturing will definitely be needed with texture-intensive games.

Now, let's get down to business and test the Mobility Radeon 9700!
